The party I was traveling with might disagree (they were complaining about the server and the amount of bread chips that came with the spinach and artichoke dip), but I thought the food was good and the server was on top of things as best she could be. However, it took A LONG TIME to get our food, and it was pretty empty. I’m not sure what was going on, but I don’t think we would have stopped in if we knew it would take so long. They were also obviously understaffed which is a bummer for those left. We got pizza, a burger, and a beer. It all was or looked good (I didn’t try the burger). I will say it was a bit pricey, but Savannah is a big tourist area, so it’s to be expected. As mentioned, for the little amount of food we got with a mostly empty restaurant, it took a long time to get the food. The vibe is super chill and fun. I love the decor. Booth and chairs were comfy enough. The tables we had were quite wobbly, but we MacGyver-ed it to make sure we didn’t spill our beer. The bathrooms are a bit tight - you need to do some dancing around the throne to fit. Actually just getting there you have to squeeze by a pole between tables or walk around someone’s chair while they eat to get to the doors , but it’s fine. I also thought the smell of the soap was pretty gross. Clean hands, though. You need ‘em, so, yeah. My kids loved that the floor had so many swoops and slopes and little steps. Just be aware if mini parkour isn’t your thing.

I have been eating at Mellow Mushroom since I was a teenager in Atlanta. It’s always been my favorite pizza! However after moving to Savannah and ordering from the newly opened Mellow Mushroom here, we’ve had issues. We typically carry out so my review is solely about the pizza and people making it. We order from this place at least 2-3 Fridays per month. But the pizza has consistently had problems. We’ve tried calling and talking to management and staff and they apologize and say they’ll speak to the pizza cooks but nothing changes. The main issue is they use triple the amount of sauce on the pizza than any pizza I’ve ever eaten. So much sauce that the cheese and toppings slide right off the pizza upon picking up a slice to take a bite. Not only that, I order mine with light sauce and it’s got the sauce of a typical pizza. I don’t know why this is consistently an issue but it is. Also the crust that MM is famous for, being light, buttery, with Parmesan and scrumptious is not that way at this restaurant. The crust is usually brownish, crispy and missing all of the Parmesan and buttery delicious taste they are known for. They consistently ruin our pizzas and I’m fed up. So if you eat in the restaurant they might do everything well. However carry out is non consistent and the pizza is usually pretty bad.

The turn-ons outweigh the turn-offs. That said, it's a great place and I can see why it's so busy tonight. First the turn-offs, because the niggles can't be ignored and I'd rather take them out of the way first. The service could be better, they seem aloof to certain things like when someone broke a glass outside and didn't clean it up before we went in. Moreover, it took 40 minutes to get an appetizer of pretzels to arrive at our table. Only the appetizer, not actual entrees, only the appetizer. That was about the point where I was ready to drop an angry review. Then the turn-ons came in. Once we got the appetizer, it was much, MUCH bigger than we expected. Six big, salty pretzels with two marinara sauce and two cheese sauces. I have never had such tasty pretzels and beer cheese, and I've had my share of the stuff in the past. Five minutes later, our food came in. I guess they were cooking it all at once, because meal after meal after meal came in in sudden repetition. And everything is huge. I ordered a half of a hoagie and it easily was the size of regular sized subs at any other place. The pizzas are huge, the burgers are huge, the calzones are huge. We have leftovers for another day with how much they gave us. And did I mention it is all delicious as well as huge? Because while I'm snooty with my casual food and say "I've had better hoagies," it's still amazing. The pizzas and calzones looked awesome too, and the burger was easily gone before I could look at it more directly. I'd definitely recommend this place, but be warned that you will have to wait. And wait. And maybe the service might be busy with someone else. But the food is worth the prices and the wait. Worst case, do...

The only reason they are getting one star is because there is not a no star option. The server was decent and the app we got was good. However as we waited nearly 20 additional minutes for our pizza we saw the dishwasher go into the bathroom with blue gloves on. We wondered if he was going to dispose of them so I followed a minute later. As I walked in he was retying his shorts with gloves still on and walked right out never taking off his gloves or even thinking to wash his hands. I told the server we were cancelling the rest of our food and explained why. She got the manager, Curtis, who did apologize and explained they strive for cleanliness. Clearly not. He then presented me with a bill for the app and the drinks. Having ran restaurants for nearly 15 years, i never stated this to Curtis, I was shocked to get a bill at all. I never expect anything for free but with an incident like this it is surprising he did not comp the $13. I expressed this to Curtis and he basically shrugged his shoulders. We will never be back and strongly recommend anyone else think twice. If this is what we saw imagine what goes on in the back.

I did receive a response from the owner who said they handled the issue in house with regards to the dishwasher and manager. I do appreciate the response and the handling of the issue. It will be at least a couple years before I return to Savannah so I am just going to put this to rest and be done with it. We wish...
