((UPDATE 12/17/20)) Lo-Lo's once again stands undefeated as the top contender on my list of comfort food spots, up there with Cracker Barrel. I often order different menu items but two constants are the ABC Shrimp Mac & Cheese and the Yo Mama's Biscuits & Gravy. They are 10/10, would and will order every single time. The anomaly today was the order of the Veggie Plate, the single Chicken Breast, and the Banana Foster Sauce with Bananas. With the veggie plate, you have the option of any 4 sides and I had it with the tomato and onions (which are served fresh), the sauteed mushrooms and onions, the green beans and red potatoes, and the sauteed zucchini and squash. All the veggies were a touch under-seasoned for my taste, but I requested salt, pepper, and hot sauce, and all was well with the world once more. Waffle and Banana Pudding were also had by the people I dined in with and they said both were delicious. The banana foster sauce is served with five measly pieces of banana (possibly half of one full) so I accompanied it with the side of bananas, which in turns is the other half it seems, so the price you pay is premium, but the sauce is where the magic happens. Would have loved a scoop of vanilla ice cream right on top of it, but we made do for the day. Jar of Drank. No need to say more. They make it happen time after time. Lo-Lo's is a magical beast with powerful flavor exposure, you'll be hooked. ((PREVIOUS REVIEW)) Recently went back after not going there for 3 months. This time we hit up the to-go side of the restaurant, which is actually off towards the right hand side of the building. There are two parking spots exclusive for to-go pickup orders, so you can avoid having to get valet parking or parking far away. We had two heavy entrees, the shrimp mac and cheese, and the chicken fried chicken. Now exclusive to this one time, the sides for our second entree were unfortunately incorrect. However, because they were still tasty and not something that created big issues, I didn't let it affect my review of the place, but please specify and double check your order before taking off. In my case, I would have brought it up to one of the workers if I had known and wasn't in a picnic 20+ miles away when I noticed it. Regardless, food was phenomenal, staff were friendly and courteous, and wait time was non existent. From start to end a positive experience, I even checked out the bathrooms while they got the order ready -since I got there a couple of minutes early- and they were stocked and pristine. The restaurant inside was also in order and everybody seemed to be having a great time. I always recommend this place to friends and family and that has yet to change. Thanks...
Read moreI hadn't been for over 10 years. The last time was the Central location & I vowed to never return. On that occasion, the chicken was a day old. I could tell by looking at it that it had been placed in hot oil on this day & the manager admitted to same. The greens & Mac & cheese was also a day old. I couldn't believe he admitted to what I could visibly see was the FACT! I still have the recording to this day. The only reason I ended up at the Scottsdale location was I was blindsided by an associate. My wings were flabby & undercooked. If you can undercook a wing, I dared NOT to test the breast. The grits were watery with no flavor. The waffles had cinnamon on them which I didn't ask for, like nor was it indicated. The cheese eggs were cheese with a little eggs if you know what I mean. Even after my complaint of the undercooked wings, no one in management came & offered an apology or any type of compensation. A simple do over would have been appreciated❗️ The COGIC conversation was in town & they were probably swamped, as we saw 2 large tables of individuals. However, that doesn't equate to rushing to get orders out with undercooked, tasteless & unappealing food items. When my acquaintance went out to smoke, I hurried another waitress to take my plate & dispose of it so that it wouldn't be noticed that I didn't eat it🤮 Our waiter was new and I gave hin that benefit but after waiting 30 minutes for water with no ice and lemon slices, that I asked for upon being seated & he finally brought it after being reminded, there were ice cubes & no lemons❗️ I also changed my initial order after everyone at the table had placed their orders, to something less costly just in case I was disgusted again (and I was); yet on the bill it indicated the price of my initial more expensive order. TOTALLY frustrated by his continued forgetting, turtle slow service & failure to correct the bill; I AGAIN made up my mind to NEVER go near Lo Lo's at any location. Only positive note was the fact that I didn't have to come out of my pocket‼️ life wanted to take pictures of the poor excuse for a soulfood meal but I didn't want to offend my acquaintance's friend that was paying for it, by appearing ungrateful.
I've lived by the motto that I don't patronize "soulfood " restaurants because I cook too well myself & I shouldn't have strayed from that motto.
NEVER AGAIN LO LO. Does LoLo mean low quality and low...
Read moreHad some time to kill before a 1 p.m. appointment today, so decided to try Lo-Lo's. The food was good, but this will probably be the first and last time I ever visit this restaurant. Let's set the stage a bit to learn why...
Picture it, S'dale, AZ 11:09 a.m. It's a sunny day when two friends walk into Lo-Lo's for lunch. They have almost 90 minutes to eat. The restaurant isn't very crowded, so they expect to be seated and served in a timely fashion. There's a couple waiting to be seated, who unbeknownst to us, they had waiting for several minutes before we walked in. We waited a solid 5 minutes for anyone to finally come to the host station (we don't know how long the other two people had been waiting) to seat us.
It took our server a bit of time to greet us, but she was very polite and had a good sense of humor. We placed our order around 11:25 a.m., received our $5 each sodas shortly after that, then we didn't see our server again until almost noon when she told us that there were still two more orders in front of ours. Ten minutes later, we finally had our food. We were about halfway through our meal when our server appeared with a mobile POS in hand to ask if we needed anything else. We requested a box and salt (there wasn't any on the table). She didn't offer a receipt for us to review while we finished up. She delivered the requested items and asked if was going to be a single check.
The food was hot, delicious, and fresh. Portions were decent but certainly did not reflect the prices being charged. The side portion of grits (about 6-7 ounces) was $8. The box of real grits (not instant) that I keep at home is about half that price and I get at least 16 servings from it.
Long story short.... excellent food; okay service; do not go if you're in a hurry - expect to be there at least 90 minutes when business is slow. I don't want to imagine what it would be like when they are busy.
One more thing worth mentioning, back of house staff (bussers, bar backs, expediters, etc.) stayed busy, making sure paper products were stocked, tables clean off, etc. They deserve a big kudos for...
