First of all - the service here was EXCELLENT! We sat outside (no reservation on a Friday at 6pm, waited 10 min for a table) and were very happy with our waiter. Our water was never empty, he was prompt and we were never waiting for him. The reason for 3 stars is the ramen was a miss for me. We had the Obon Ramen and, while the broth and noodles were good, the pork wasn't great. I do feel a bit biased as we moved here from Chicago and the ramen in Chicago (especially at a place called High5 Ramen) is insanely delicious and I'm pretty convinced nothing will ever top it but it is now the scale I use to measure. The pork wasn't very tender and felt more fatty than typical to me (I know it is usually a fatty cut of meat and that's okay by me). The ground chicken was also...just a strange addition? You can't really eat it with your chopsticks (it's very small pieces...ground...) so it all settles to the bottom and it felt like such a small amount of meat it makes me wonder why they add it in? The broth and noodles were both great though - the spice was perfect for me, it had good flavor and the noodles were perfectly thick without being overly doughy.
We also got the steamed edamame which was great but I'm not sure that is really much to write home about. It's hard to mess up something covered in delicious flakey salt!
Overall, I likely wouldn't return specifically for ramen here (though in fairness, it is described primarily as a sushi bar I believe) but if you have never had ramen or have a low bar, you may be more pleased than I was! It definitely was good, just not great or 5 star worthy.
Also this is random but I don't drink soda at home and love a fountain diet coke when I do eat out. The one I had here was so flat it didn't have a single bubble. Perhaps machine needed cleaning or low on C02, I'm not sure but don't go expecting a really...
Read moreI stopped by here with my family on a Tuesday afternoon to celebrate a birthday. I’ve been before and really enjoyed it, but things have changed for the worse it seems. After being seated, we all noticed an awful amount of gnats flying around us. Just everywhere. The table next to us also seemed bothered by it. These were persistent all throughout dinner. At one point, a moth also flew right by us and hit the window before falling behind the seating. Aside from the gnats, the food was still decent. The fried rice appetizer was very hard, but still offered some good flavors. The buns were very good. My sushi was almost great, but I asked for no avocado since I’m allergic and it was still there upon arrival. A quick removal on my end is no big deal but it would’ve been nice to see that attention to detail from the kitchen. Last thing to irk me - we were celebrating a birthday, so when that person went to the restroom I mentioned it to our server who told me they had some mochi they could bring to the table. Well, it was mochi. Just mochi. No candle, no “happy birthday” in chocolate syrup, no singing - not even a mention of the birthday from the server. Just dropped off some mochi 🤷🏻♂️ and then added it to the bill. I mean, if I wanted to order mochi, I would. I was hoping for some sort of special birthday thing, and got nothing. All in all, I was left very disappointed, especially compared to the first visit. The gnats were the biggest complaint by far. I don’t wanna have to swat stuff away from my food all dinner long.
Oh and the men’s bathroom was gross. Falling apart since I last saw it. So...
Read moreThis was a true disappointment taste wise. My fiance took me for my birthday and I was super excited, as there are not too many ramen restaurants in AZ. Pros: great booze selection (perfect if you are looking for a drinking spot) The kimchi was pretty good, as well as The kimchi cold noodles Cons: everything else was just not right. We ordered the salmon steam bun, pork steam bun, and jackfruit they tasted like something you'd warm up in a microwave (although the sauce on the jackfruit was good). Ordered regular Japanese cold noodles and the ingredients were just not right PLEASE LOOK UP HOW JAPANESE COLD NOODLES ARE MADE. the noodles were okay, but the sauce and no flavor, and they put lettuce in it, with fake crab and egg. The tamago (egg) to tasted like a milky American cold omelette and was a pasty grey color. We order a few different sushis, and regular rice was used instead of sushi grade And it tastes like it had been sitting for a bit. :'( Service was simply ok. Non of the gals could pronounce what they were serving 🤷🤦♀️ Forgot about us a few times and forgot to bring my sake cup (but brought the pourer), and did not ask which sake I wanted, instead of bringing a menu, brought me warm sake. 🤷 Too be honest I feel that the $130 bill was pretty steep considering the poor food quality. :'( It was also saddening that they did not have Japanese style Brown egg for their ramen. We had been looking forward to the opening of this restaurant sooo much, and it was so not worth the wait, and...
