I've been to the OPC in Birmingham, Alabama so when I saw that there was one in Phoenix I figured it would be a safe bet. It wasn't bad but it wasn't the same either. I guess this is where the southerner in me came out. I'm used to biscuits being made in a certain way and I'm used to grits being made in a certain way (the southern way). This pancake house felt like a West Coast establishment (which it was) but the way the food was prepared just didn't have an affect on me. The food wasn't bad but I knew I could have had better especially considering that this pancake house was literally sitting beside the shopping mecca of Phoenix, the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale. I guess it started when my wife asked the waitress if there was pulp in the OJ and she said no yet when the juice came it was full of pulp. The server claimed that she thought my wife had asked if there was any coconut in the juice (WTH?). The food was...OK, but as with other establishments I had been too I did not understand why it cost so much for breakfast, especially considering that the breakfast was OK at best. I guess that is due to it being right beside the premier shopping spot in Phoenix. I'm sure that real estate is not cheap. The Original Pancake House is based in Oregon (or was it Washington) and this is only the second one I've been to. I just wasn't expected it to be so vastly different when there were many of the same items on the menu as what I saw in Alabama. Maybe that's why there's not so many of them. I'm being a little harsh, the restaurant was not bad but with me, I don't always eat breakfast so when I do I have expectations and I don't even mind spending money for a good meal but I have expectations. If breakfast is going to cost me over $100 (for a group of six) I expect to be satisfied when I walk out, not wishing it was 5 hours later so I could be looking for...

I was told they don’t do Postmates at all and when I asked it was explained that it’s because the customer that’s ordering the food doesn’t tip and the “girls” do all their own work. I waited tables for a good many years when I was younger so I got that. Well that’s kinda understandable so I left it at that. I was hungry so I ordered food to go for myself. The food was great but I started to think about the policy as I watched the waitress at the counter stop a conversation with a customer about her husband and children to take my order. She seemed put out and bothered and that wasn’t expected due to the fact they weren’t at all busy. My food was cooked and placed into Togo containers and all my server did was place hem in a bag and roll her eyes when I asked for Tabasco. I mentioned I didn’t need a lot but just a shake or two and she placed a Togo container with enough to drink in front of me not seeing to care about my request. As soon as she “did all the work” of bagging the food and draining a bottle of Tabasco and handing it to me she immediately dismissed me and continued her conversation as if I wasn’t standing there. This is inexcusable otherwise but the logic behind refusing Postmates and other door to door delivery services doesn’t make any sense at all. It’s almost as if they don’t want the money. I watched myself and didn’t see any effort beyond taping the POS screen to place the order and then bagging the packaged food(done by the cook).
I will not recommend this restaurant on two things. The service and the policy that not hurts the bottom line but limits the customers desire to eat the great food in he comfort and privacy of their own home or place of work. The food is great but so is the food in places that act like they want the business and tray customers...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at The Original Pancake House in Scottsdale, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly and welcoming staff who made me feel right at home.
The menu offered a wide variety of breakfast options, and I was particularly excited to try their famous pancakes. I ordered a stack of their classic buttermilk pancakes, and they did not disappoint. The pancakes were fluffy, light, and had the perfect amount of sweetness. They were simply delicious and definitely lived up to their reputation.
I also decided to try their turkey sausage, as I am always on the lookout for healthier alternatives. While the flavor was good, I found the turkey sausage to be a little dry. However, this minor flaw did not overshadow the overall quality of the meal.
The service was prompt and attentive throughout my visit. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and provided helpful recommendations. They ensured that my coffee cup was always full and made sure I had everything I needed to enjoy my breakfast.
The atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and inviting. The interior had a charming and rustic feel, which added to the overall dining experience. The seating was comfortable, and the restaurant was clean and well-maintained.
Overall, my experience at The Original Pancake House in Scottsdale was a positive one. The good people and delicious food made for a memorable breakfast. While the turkey sausage was a little dry, it did not detract from the overall tasty meal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying breakfast in a warm and friendly...
