This was our first trip to AZ and The Scott was the perfect place to stay. I would rate it a 4 1/2, but unable to do that here, so I rounded up because, despite some issues, we would stay here again. |Pros-|Location: Close to Old Town and restaurants/shops. We used Lyft, but the resort does have a shuttle service, we opted not to use it. You could probably walk into town or use the resorts bikes, we just weren't feeling that this trip. |Ambiance: We enjoyed the vibe of this resort. The decor and details are exceptional. |Pools: We spent a lot of time at the pools. Both pools were well-maintained and pool towels provided. The pool side bar was open and we had server, Alexa, many times. She was great! |Room: Excellent room! Very spacious, clean and the decor was fabulous. Big double doors leading to a balcony overlooking the pool was a big plus. AC worked. Bed was so comfortable with great linens. Lots of mirrors and closet space. Nespresso machine, ceramic mugs and glass water cups were a plus. |Drinks: We had several drinks at The Canal Club and poolside, all great.|Grounds: The grounds are beautiful. We enjoyed walking around at night. There are several hidden little areas to sit and enjoy. There are hammocks as well. |Other: The option for early check in was priceless. Arriving from another state in the morning and being able to check in at noon was one of the things that sold us on this resort. The grounds crew, housekeepers and valet gentlemen were so friendly. Always offering a smile and a hello. ||Cons-|Staff: The ladies at check in were not super friendly. They were pleasant enough, but were not warm and welcoming. Every server we had at The Canal Club inside the resort was rude. Very curt and more interested in conversing with other young staff than serving their paying customers. We felt ignored on more than one occasion by wait staff and servers. |Food: We were disappointed with most food we ordered, with the exception of the Cubano sandwich, which was good. |Late Check Out: Since we had a late flight out of AZ, we opted to pay for late check out which gives you an extra 2 hours. When laying by the pool I received a text that housekeeping had entered our room and found our belongings still there and check out was 11:00. My husband went to the front desk and told them we had late check out, to which they replied we did not. I had the receipts of this and then upon looking into it, she realized that indeed we had paid for late check out. Unfortunately, our key card was locked and we could not access our room to shower and pack. We wasted a good hour of our late check out trying to get this issue resolved and therefore our checkout was stressful. Not a good way to end an otherwise relaxing trip. We were offered to stay an additional hour and be charged $100 for it, which we opted not to do as we had already paid for early check in and late check out. No apology was given and the ladies were not friendly. |My advice, if you pay for late check out, call the front desk and confirm this before 11:00 to be assured your keycard will not be locked. ||As mentioned above, this resort is great, with the exception of some staff and the check out snafu and we would stay here again if...
Read moreI booked this hotel because it was formerly the FireSky and the website looked really good. And it did live up to the media that was put out. The lobby is lovely, the grounds are wonderful. But it is not luxurious. The rooms are average, but they are decorated well. The bathrooms are small, it’s clean. But if you are looking for a truly luxurious stay you should try another hotel. I will say this, we were looking for a relaxing pool filled vacation after being home for over a year. The other guests skewed VERY young and they were clearly there to see and be seen. This is no longer what I consider fun, but if that is what you’re looking for, this is definitely the place for you. The good: The hotel lobby and entrance is lovely and the grounds are well kept. The staff is extremely nice and accommodating and the hotel is clean. The pool service was excellent, especially Haley who remembered our last name and was very attentive despite being very busy. It's full of beautiful outdoor seating and the restaurant was nice. The bad: Maid service in the room is only every 3rd day of the stay. This is a very strange practice because if you’re there for a weekend you don’t get any maid service. My stay was from Thursday through Monday. On Sunday there was still no maid service in the room so we called and asked and they came right away while we were in the pool. Prior to that we had to call and request toilet paper and fresh towels. The pool was not good, which was the whole reason we were there. It was outrageously crowded for an off-season time period. We were unable to get chairs unless we stood around and waited for people to leave. And for the first 3 days we could only get chairs at the "beach" pool. Which is the worst. That "sand" is burning hot and weird to walk into a pool on. We saw 4 people, including myself, fall when just stepping into the pool from the side. It's a 1ft drop, but the sand makes it ridiculously slippery. It's an ill conceived and poorly executed concept. I wouldn't have used that pool but we didn't have a choice. The other pool was FULL. Every day it was crazy crowded until Sunday. At that point things were great. Also, on the second night we put our swimsuits on our first floor patio to dry. It was very nice and partially obscured, however, when we came back from dinner my white bikini top was missing. Someone clearly saw it and took it as there were 3 other swimsuits out there and that was the only piece missing. I reported it to the front desk and asked them to let me know if someone turned it in. No other assistance or compensation for the clothing was offered (not that I expected it, I'm the one who left my clothing outside unattended). I suspect it was one of the many bachelorette/bridal parties at the hotel. Everything was fine otherwise, the hotel is lovely, we had a good time, but our experience was not the best. I just chose poorly for the kind of stay that we were...
Read moreMy wife and I decided to stay at The Scott the night of our wedding in Scottsdale to relax and celebrate our new marriage. My wife's mother filed a canary form so she could have the room on her card in advance as a wedding gift.
When we arrived to check in at 10pm following our wedding, the front desk didn't understand that my now mother-in-law's card listed on the canary form was already charged for the reservation and forced us to pay for the two nights in full at check-in with a new card in person. My wife and I were exhausted in our wedding dress and tuxedo so after 5 minutes of getting nowhere we gave up and double-paid for the room so we could rest after just getting married.
Our package included a $200 food and drink credit and a bottle of wine to be brought to our room. The bottle wasn't in our room at check-in so we called the front desk to have the bottle brought up. They said they'd bring it right away but it was never delivered. We followed up again several times the next day, each time being told "we'll bring it up now" only for it to never show up. The last time we asked the front desk directly when we returned later that evening, they told us "the staff is no longer available to bring it to you this late in the evening". She mentioned they were unexpectedly short-staffed for the day. I totally get having to wait longer than usual for services when you're understaffed, but straight up dropping a service that we asked for over multiple days was extremely disappointing. Eventually, we convinced the front desk to let us grab a bottle from the bar instead.
Besides the service, the rooms were nice, the restaurant was great, and the room service and cleaning was excellent. They eventually fulfilled their obligated service after confronting management directly, and my in-person card was refunded on check-out. They also let us keep our pool access after checkout for the day.
Overall, we were incredibly disappointed in the intransigent service we got from the front desk. We were excited to celebrate our first nights as a married couple at one of the more beautiful hotels in Scottsdale, but the intransigent service made us feel treated like a burden instead of welcomed newlywed guests.
I'd recommend The Scott to anyone who is interested in a nice property in a good location, but be prepared to fight with management to get the services you paid for. I'm just grateful that we didn't select them as our wedding...
