I've been to Wonderspaces a few times over the past 16 months - I liked to go when there were new attractions.
This place has some cool art, but honestly, there's so much missing "space" wise. Empty walls, empty floors, and a limited amount of art. I feel like the lack of interactive art pieces makes this seem more like a regular art museum and not anything immersive. If I'm going to pay that much money, I'm hoping to get my money's worth. I can go to the Phoenix art museum where it's covered from floor to ceiling in exhibits for a similar price. I saw a couple cool ones like VR (really cool, dark room to help with the experience), a pretty disco ball exhibit (couldn't touch it though), and a small wall hanging that recorded your movements and displayed them in what I can best describe as digital "sequins".
I will say though that one of the things I consistently enjoyed over the last few times I went was the customer service from Indy - they were super knowledgeable, and I could tell they went the extra mile for their research. No one else even talked to me proactively or cared when i was wandering around. During the three times I was there, the bartenders were the only other friendly people, and that was because Indy recommended a couple of drinks for me to try. They were super understanding the first time I was there when I expressed that I have trouble understanding some art pieces - they were super validating and made things easy for me to understand. Plus, the passion they radiated about the pieces gave me energy. They are honestly the reason I gave this place an extra star!
Sometimes, a company can be pretty mediocre - I have to say, I wonder about the kind of business model the CEO has created and if it's sustainable. Despite the lack of exhibits and engagement in a decent amount of art pieces, Indy really made it worth it. They were so friendly, welcoming, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable, and all I had to do was show up. They were wonderful - please promote them and give them a raise! I look forward to expanding my horizon on art, and Indy's energy and validation really stuck with me and encouraged me....
Read moreWonderspaces Arizona is a great thing to do for anyone who hasn’t visited before and is looking to experience the show for the first time.
If their “rotating exhibits” “virtual reality experiences” and “souvenirs” are what you remember being some of the greatest things about this place, think again.
After the first visit, there’s really no point in returning since they no longer switch and rotate new artworks occasionally. This was originally a major selling point, and the company went from switching one artwork every month, to 6 months, to now having visited over a year ago and seeing the exact same show. Not only is the artwork lack luster and overly familiar at this point, but ticket prices were raised, VR experience fully removed, and souvenir jars are no longer available to purchase or even keep.
It’s as if someone in the business decided to take away all of the things that made Wonderspaces magical and fun, and instead invest in stupid overpriced childrens toys and cocktails to capitalize off of for a quicker buck.
I understand that in this day and age, many companies are required to make changes they may not fully agree with in order to stay relevant and up to date with trends and budgets, but in Wonderspaces case I do believe there was much more that could have been improved upon to save the business before it became a sinking ship.
The employees that work here are all artistic people themselves, and I highly recommend asking for their outlook and opinions when visiting Wonderspaces AZ. It truly adds to the magic, and they will give you little easter eggs of new information about the art that other people wouldn’t even consider without asking. The employees have kept this ship afloat for years, being the reason people come back, leave good reviews, and fall in love with the art. I can guarantee you that, just look at the rest of the reviews to confirm.
Overall, I enjoyed Wonderspaces in the past. It is a completely different experience than it was when originally formed, and unfortunately the change has not been positive in my personal opinion. Hoping that WS AZ undergoes some positive...
Read moreI was under the impression that it would be a little more interactive than it actually was. They had some cool artwork, many of which you couldn’t touch or engage with, understandable. If you’re into modern art, this place is for you. If you’re a social influencer, you’ll love the backdrops some of the art will provide. I took my daughter with the intention of interacting more. Our visit turned out to be a lot of walking and watching. We went through the whole place once in about 20 min. We then revisited a couple of the areas we enjoyed and took some pictures to extend our visit. Total time spent: 40 min. The staff there were nice. Although one of the art pieces wasn’t functioning appropriately and some pieces flew on the ground near someone. A visitor picked them up and attempted to place them back, a staff member didn’t like that too much. She kindly but firmly told him not to touch anything and please let them know to fix it. Which I understand it’s better for staff members to deal with mishaps vs visitors but I couldn’t help but feel bad for the guy who had these pieces nearly flung at him by the self operating art piece only to get a friendly warning not to touch. Without spoiling too much, our fav part was the VR area. My daughter also enjoyed the “bamboo” and “cloud” rooms (my daughter’s references, not the actual names) Overall, it was nice but I probably...
