We are already huge fans of Coffeeholic and went (today!) to check out this spot with much excitement and anticipation. It was the first Saturday during their soft opening phase so we kept that in mind to manage expectations.
Got in line at 1 pm and ordered around 1:30. If you are dining in you’ll have to wait for a table to open up before you can order + sit down, and if you’re getting your food to go you can place your order and wait off to the side.
There was a bit of a miscommunication when another customer who said they were ordering to go sat down at our table (it looked like she only said she was getting her food to go but intended to eat her to go order at the restaurant smh lol…) but the person who took our order at the cash register actually went over to clear the situation up, which was much appreciated. The place was super busy and crowded so I’m curious to see how M Cozy will adjust & communicate the ordering process for their grand opening because I’m sure it isn’t fun for the wait staff to have to constantly maneuver through the crowd and/or let folks know they can’t sit down before ordering. All the fun things of a soft opening and good problems to have and solve since the place was packed with happy customers munching away :)
We waited about 20 minutes for our food and it looks like the chicken and waffles come out first for most tables. My Filipino husband loved the dish, rating it a 6/7 with the only critique being that he wished the waffles were crispier. I’m Vietnamese and I thought the nuoc mam wings were delish and am sad I forgot to ask to try a bite of the waffles! Presentation was beautiful.
I ordered the banh mi pate chao and the dish was fire. It wasn’t until I was a few bites in that I realized the dish was basically a Vietnamese take on steak and eggs. The meat was sooo flavorful and tender my mouth is watering thinking of it now! One of the staff members hooked me up with some of the Viet butter too so I could spread it on my banh mi and it made the dish even more scrumptious. Hopefully they start allowing folks to add that option on, as I tried to do so at the ordering counter but was told I couldn’t haha. I’d totally order the dish again and rate it a 6.5/7.
We ordered the ube mascarpone French toast, as well, just to try. It wasn’t baaaad but I don’t think it is something we’d order again. The French toast was a little dry (maybe it needed to soak more?) but it was soft. Ube flavor was on point as usual and we def want to try the ube pancakes next time.
I can tell this place will be a hit and they’ll probably need to open up more seating options :) we are already looking forward to our next visit when we’re in the area again! Fingers crossed a second M Cozy location will open up in Renton in the...
Read moreLike many others, we were pretty excited to try this place thanks to Coffeeholic House's advertising. We went on Sunday during their "test run" so my expectations weren't really high for a soft opening.
We were there about 1pm and had about a 35 minute wait. When we reached the door we could smell something foul but couldn't quite figure it where it was coming from. After ordering, it took another 10 minutes to be seated. We'd later realized what the smell was. When we sat at our table, the rags they were using to wipe tables had a pretty bad smell to them and needed to be replaced. Even after wiping or table, from the previous party, they left the table wet with the nasty scent still lingering. Nobody wants to smell that right before getting their food. After we ordered our food, it took another 10 minutes to be seated.
One thing that was super awkward was the hostess sitting everyone expressed her anger with one of the other employees right in front of everyone. 2 lady's had asked to switch tables, and he ok'd it. She came back and found out and got really upset at him and had some things to say that could have waited.
Anyway, the first thing to come out that we ordered was our ube pancakes which is what I was most excited to try out of the 3 meals we ordered. Unfortunately, the pancakes turned out to be underwhelming. The Pancake alone was not that flavorful and actually really dry. The ube spread and coconut syrup provided all the flavor. I give it a 5 out of 10.
Next to come out was the Luc Lac (Shaking Beef) which we all enjoyed because of the flavor in the beef. The sauce from the beef mixed into the rice was a great mixture. It comes with a salad as well which my wife really enjoyed. I give it a 10 out 10.
For drinks, I got the tiramisu egg coffee with the cookie and my wife got the egg nog coffee and both drinks did not disappoint. 10 out of 10.
The last thing we waited on was the Bahn Mi Chao. When I say waited, it took over 30 minutes, the couple next to us waited even longer. It was ok, the meat was tasty. The eggs were beyond burnt. I give it a 6 out of 10.
I'm willing to give this place another shot down the line after they've been open...
Read moreI had high expectations, with all the hype that MCozy and Coffeeholic had been generating for the past few weeks.
We got there at 11am on a Sunday for opening weekend and there was a line about 20-30 minutes long. It went quicker than expected—and part of the reason I think is that the atmosphere of the restaurant isn’t the most pleasant for a relaxing Brunch.
The Menu — it’s relatively simple, with savory and sweet dishes. This makes it easy to get a bit of both, and since a lot of the ingredients are common among the dishes, makes food come out relatively quickly. BUT the menu could benefit from more photos and descriptions of the food and drinks. This would streamline the ordering process.
The ordering process and service — good in that you order and pay at the counter before being seated, which increases the turnaround time of tables. BUT orders are often missed. A server even asked us if we had any orders missing…
The food Banh mi chao — delicious steak, yummy crunchy soft bread. But smaller in portion than expected, and also they didn’t precut the bread which was quite annoying. Ube french toast — large portion and delicious mascarpone. but they could decrease the amount of toast (4 pieces) and instead add more fruit or other toppings. We got flavor fatigue and left some of the toast uneaten.
Drinks — these are definitely the highlight. So unique. Yes, they’re pricey, but they’re the star. Wish they had decaf options.
Atmosphere — Here’s where they suffer the most. There’s a lot of potential, with large windows and both counter and table seating. But there’s not much natural light because the sun is in the opposite direction in the morning. Also, the music is garish pop music (not brunch vibes) and way too loud.
I’m a harsh critic, but I know this place has a lot of potential so I hope the managers incorporate...
