OH! Bear Cafe & TeaHouse — Restaurant in Seattle

This review is about a custom birthday cake, not the cafe's regular products (which I haven't had). In late January 2025, I ordered an 8" mango mousse cake for my partner's birthday and was extremely disappointed by the quality. The top was supposed to be a type of mango jelly layer but was completely frozen when I picked it up at 12pm on his birthday, and it was STILL frozen by the time we had the cake at around 8pm that night.

When I ordered over the phone, I also made a point of asking whether there was fresh mango on the cake and was told yes. However, there were only a few sad pieces of unripe mango, plus lemon slices for some reason (see pics). Now compare those with the last pic, which is a promotional still from Oh Bear's website, and you can see why I was annoyed to have paid $55 + tip for this cake.

Finally, the cake itself just wasn't very good. For some reason, it contained little chewy boba-like bits that gave the whole thing a weird texture, and the "mousse" part wasn't that soft or airy. That, combined with the frozen top and the sad mango pieces, made our entire family grimace while eating.

Since there wasn't an email address on Oh Bear's website, I tried to reach out on Instagram messages with my complaint, but no one has gotten back to me (it's been about a week). The only reason I gave two stars is because the person who helped me...

I’m so sad :( I went to order a white rabbit cake, called the cafe but the staff was confused and scoffed at me saying “you know you’re calling oh bear cafe… for a cake?” And I tried to explain that yes, I wanted to order the cake for my birthday, but they hung up on me! I guess I won’t be trying the cake, but I hope their staff can learn to be kind. My mistake, I thought that the white rabbit cake was from this location!

I’ve been here before as a customer and I really loved it so much, was hoping to get a bear soon too! I also swear I’ve seen cakes in the store too! I guess I will not be returning :(

It's so cute! The drinks we had were good, and my taiyaki that I ordered was lovely. The staff member was also very sweet, and helped my friend who has dietary restrictions figure out their order. The decor is so adorable! I'd been looking forward to coming here for quite a while, and it didn't disappoint :)

One note: for some reason the details for this cafe (as of 9/4/24) show it as having a wheelchair accessible entrance, which it definitely does NOT. There is a pretty beefy step (the other businesses in this strip do not have a step, not sure why the builders couldn't ramp this one), and then a heavy door to contend with while you're on the small, square platform. If you're not an ambulatory wheelchair user with a lightweight manual chair that you can lift (I think the step may be too high to pop a wheelie up onto), you probably won't be...
