One of the worst dining experiences we've had in a while. The only positive thing we experienced was the polite server who brought us a high chair (thank you!), but everything else was terrible. We ordered at the counter and the gentleman (probably the owner or manager) was not friendly at all, not even a little. Perhaps he was having a bad day, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
We ordered:
Chips and guac (2/10): nothing special, the guac was okay but how can you mess up guac? Chips were chewy and overly salty.
Wet burrito (2/10): flavorless and again...nothing special.
Fish Tacos (3/10): these were okay, but so much room for improvement.
Beer (0/10): we ordered a Mexican beer on tap, but all the beers available on tap were domestic. Worst of all, the beer was warm :(
All this topped off with the semi rude demeanor of the guy at the counter, I can't believe this place has a 4.3 star rating. Looking at past customer photos, the food looked pretty promising. Perhaps they changed owners or chefs? It's a shame because the place has/had alot of loyal customers. Based on our experience though, we will not be coming back,...
Read more3/13/20 My boyfriend and I came in for late lunch. It's a very quaint and inviting place! I loved the Lucha decor. There is a great outdoor seating area that I can't wait to visit during warmer weather. When we came inside we were greeted by very friendly, community-aware, engaged staff. She was happy to sample our picky eater when we had questions about ingredients. We ordered house margaritas, a 3-taco plate with rice and beans, and a big bowl of posole with chips. We chose carne asada, grilled chicken, and prawns. They all stood out as delicious. Very smoky, charred, tender. The prawns were absolutely perfectly cooked! The posole was traditional, green-tart with lots of puffy hominy, and the pork chunks were soft and rich. Our picky eater (cilantro and onions) was both satisfied by the willingness to accommodate and pleased by the willingness to compensate a mistake. We will be back, as I am interested to try their jackfruit and chilaquiles (served ALL DAY)!!
We will be back. We have already recommended in-person to our local friends!
Do not miss...
Read moreFirst, the food. It's a yuppy interpretation of Mexican food. It's a strange blend of Mexican and American: a Chimichanga Dog; a hot dog with Mexican toppings. The tacos were bland. The "burrito bowl" was uninspiring. The atmosphere was unwelcoming. It was cold in the dining room, the decor was bland, kids were screaming (not the fault of the restaurant, so I'm guessing families like this place) and the lighting was spotty. To make it worse they tried to dim the lights even more which added to this unwelcoming atmosphere. This is one of those joints that doesn't have a hostess so you have to look for a while to find the "order here" sign (posted way to high and difficult to see in the bad light). Don't forget to also bus you're own dishes (the food is overpriced for such minimal staff). The only marks in the favor of this joint; the limited interaction with staff was pleasant and they serve margaritas (nothing to write home about, but very reasonably priced). Can't say I'll be back...
