Normally I would not write a review for well-known establishments like Starbucks, but at this location (12th in Capital Hill near the university) on this occasion (July 12, 2023 afternoon) an act of cruelty was committed by a barista (youngish, dark hair partially pulled up with a clip, rather prominent nose, wearing those trendy fake eyelashes and lots of makeup). The atmosphere was dead. The service was slooooow. Two people were waiting who had already ordered and there was no one ahead of me to order, but it still took 20 minutes for a Flat White. The baristas were relaxed, chatting amongst themselves, while the customers were tensely standing waiting for their orders. An older man looked anxious and uncomfortable. Then it happened. A young disabled girl entered to pick up her online order and she waited for several minutes ignored by the staff. Then the barista slid her tall drink across the counter without a smile or a thank you to this girl. The disabled girl looked inside her cup and saw that it wasn’t as she had ordered it. She approached the counter and signaled to get the barista’s attention. The barista took her time getting to the customer, sneered, and then flippantly tipped the cup sideways, scraping off some foam (or whipped cream) and dribbling some liquid out as well. Then she pranced back and presented the cup to the customer. The customer picked up the cup and set it back down. Again she tried to get the attention of the snarky barista. When the barista returned the customer asked her if she could wipe down the sides of the sticky cup. Belligerently, the barista wiped the cup with a dry napkin. After the disabled girl left, the barista started saying, “Could you wipe down this cup?” with a mocking affect (the customer had a physical disability and also a speech disability) repeating it several times and laughing. The other two employees tried to ignore her and not participate in her cruel behavior. It was...
Read moreThis Starbucks has wooden floors and hard bar stools for chairs. Nowhere do I see any plush couches or armchairs. No signs of comfort and easy sitting. The colors are are dark browns and blacks, while lighting is subdued and posters and decor is in short supply. The center of the aisle contains one bar with bar stools on either side of it. People may sit on both sides, encouraging talking and intimacy. Oh, yeah, let's add to that, password protected bathrooms. What the heck is this world coming to? Starbucks patrons seem to be all college students or older high school students. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone is carrying some kind of messenger bag or book bag--that goes with a glass of water or with some sort of iced drink or Frappuccino. My cappachino wasn't to the standard I am used to. I guess I'm used to the California variety of cappachinos much better. Here, not as much caramel was used and it just didn't taste as good as the California one. And while the inside the Starbucks looks quaint, it's not my style. I'd rather see places to cozy into and drink coffee--this is just too, too, too, I don't know, too much, too hard. This small tiny place is designed to get people in take their money, and get them outside the door. This place is not designed to have people sit and enjoy the coffee there. RECOMMENDATION: So my recommendation is this, if you enjoy taking your coffee and walking or sitting on hard bar stools then this is the place for you. If you enjoy sitting a few minutes in a cozy chair and sipping her coffee down to wake up, this is not...
Read moreI absolutely AVOID this place when the tall, white skinny guy is working in the morning because he tries to add on additional charges for things no one else ever EVER has.
I’ve NEVER been charged for adding a couple pumps of flavor to my already $6 drink but during my last visit, the white guy slides over after the girl has already rung me up to tell her next time charge me for pumps of flavoring. She literally told him, I pressed add flavor in our system but it comes up aa NO CHARGE. He tells her well, its extra pumps so add it next time.
I’ve gone there when he is NOT there and no one else has tried or mentioned charging me. I recommend you don’t buy from here when he’s there if you want to save yourself from being nickel and dimed.
The service is ridiculously slow as well! Countless times I’ve watched them hold my food and drink at the back counter while they wait to hand out multiple orders at once, so you get your food cold.
Also the food is hit or miss. Sometimes my drink taste like the gave me just a cup of milk and other times they...
