As a dedicated vegan for over 11 years, I’ve had my fair share of plant-based dining experiences—but nothing compares to **The Sushi Samurai** in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood. This place is hands-down my favorite vegan spot in all of Washington, and I can’t stop raving about it! From the moment I walked in, I felt at home. The cozy ambiance, warm lighting, and friendly staff set the stage for what would be an unforgettable meal. Whether you’re dining solo, with friends, or on a date, the atmosphere is inviting and comfortable, with both indoor and heated outdoor seating options. Now, let’s talk about the **sushi**—because wow, this place has perfected the art of plant-based rolls. Every dish is crafted with such creativity and precision that you’d never guess it’s 100% vegan. My personal favorites? The **Red Dragon Roll**, which has the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and umami flavors, and the **Queen Anne Roll**, which is an absolute showstopper. And don’t even get me started on the faux prawn roll—it’s unreal how close it comes to the real thing, both in taste and texture. One thing I truly appreciate about The Sushi Samurai is their commitment to **sustainability** and **authenticity** in vegan sushi. They don’t just replace fish with basic veggies; they **recreate the sushi experience** in a way that feels just as indulgent and satisfying as traditional sushi. Even my non-vegan friends have been blown away, with one admitting, *“I would have never guessed this wasn’t real seafood!”* If you’re looking for an elevated, **one-of-a-kind** vegan dining experience in Washington, **The Sushi Samurai is the place to go**. It’s the kind of restaurant that reminds me why I love being vegan—because food this good proves you don’t need animal products to enjoy an incredible meal. Trust me, if you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out! #fyp #foodies #sushi #vegan #veganfortheanimals #plantbased #kirkiem #Seattle @Sushi Samurai

AVOID. Incredibly, there were 3 bones in 3 different pieces of my sushi (rainbow roll) and the owner (who was there) didn't even come over to our table to apologize. Obviously I could have choked. I've never been served a single piece of sushi with a bone in it (and I've been around the block many times). I showed the bones to the waiter, who was nice. He went to speak to the owner who comped the rainbow roll, but didn't even bother to come over to our table to speak to us personally. Why not? The place wasn't at all crowded; I guess he/she had more important things to do. This was supposed to be a special occasion for me and my guests, which is why I wanted to take them to an expensive sushi restaurant. Clearly someone was not paying attention to what they were doing. So what else were they not paying attention to? It goes without saying that improperly prepared raw fish can present genuine health risks, to say nothing about what happens if you swallow and/or choke on fish bones. I feel bad that the waiter was the one who got stuck with apologizing. One would have assumed that the chef (or even the sous chef) would have immediately come over to our table to express at least some feigned concern. Even that never happened. ADDED: see the owner's response below. He admits that he was actually in the restaurant at the time AND knew that I had bit into 3 bones in 3 different pieces of their sushi. Obviously I could have choked, but I guess that wasn't his concern. Moreover, I am appalled by his claim that his "mind was elsewhere else" to the extent that he didn't come over to our table to find out 1) if I was alright; 2) to apologize; 3) to ask what he could possibly do to make things right with us. Is this the kind of expensive sushi restaurant to take your friends to for a special occasion? My advice: AVOID, unless you feel like spending real money on an experience like the one I had. On a more positive note: you might not have to pay for the sushi pieces that have bones in them, but don't expect any kind of accountability or apology from the owner / manager. Truly...

Honestly just not very good at all. Begging vegans to have standards lmao. We tried several rolls and sashimi along with a few appetizers and we walked away agreeing that the best thing we had was the dumb fried gyoza - very sad.

I expected a place so specialized to be really good at what they make, but that just wasn't the case here. Notable is the lack of vegetable rolls - they have a basic cucumber and avocado, that's it. I've been to several conventional sushi places that have a wider variety of non-fish rolls. You would think that a yam or mushroom roll would be an easy menu addition. They do have a "Super Shitake" roll, but it's actually just a basic green bean roll with some picked shitake sprinkled on top. This is also more or less true with the kimchi roll. Just not very impressive construction or ingredients here.

Most of the menu is mock-meat rolls. Definitely unique. Except that they are all similarly very basic and a mix of minimal ingredients, yet they're priced as if you were ordering actual fish. One of the rolls on the menu is over $20 lmao. Get out of here.

The faux sashimi was an interesting concept except they're like, paper thin and a set of 3 is $6. Basically paying for air.

I couldn't help but compare this place to Aji Mori in Renton, which isn't a vegan place, yet has around a dozen vegetable/vegan rolls that are all wildly more impressive, larger, and cheaper. The chefs here really just need to rethink the menu. A lot of this feels like sushi I could make at home, and I am utterly incapable in the kitchen.

The mock shrimp is OK. Everyone raves about the dragon roll here, and it was aight. But certainly not $16 worth for what is effectively a tempura veggie roll with a squirt of eel sauce on top.

You can walk into a high end thai restaurant next door and get an entire entree for the price of one of the rolls here. I know it's not vegan but maybe just eat an egg and stop punishing yourself by going to places like this.

Also, if I recall, they charge $6 for miso soup here which should be a federal crime.

Very very nice...

Ohhhh my gosh. I gotta say, this place is just wonderful. Price for value and flavor of the food is a big deal to me, having just got off the streets. (that's an update for those of you who have been following my reviews! :D) And when sushi premade in an average grocery store (such as QFC for example - extremely pricey also if I may add), you can get a terrible, bland, and stale sushi roll for just about a dollar more than the FRESH, delicious, beautiful, handmade to order sushi you can get here, you really ought to just throw down for some quality restaurant sushi instead. I ordered their Rainbow roll, which featured an assortment of different fish beautifully assembled, and placed in an aesthetically pleasing fashion. My fiance' had the dragon roll, which I personally didn't try because it was spicy and it would irritate my stomach, but he and my roommate loved it. My fiance' also got their tempura, which I did try and rather loved - but my fiance' feels that it wasn't a great value for the quantity of morsels given. Our room mate got the philly - I can't remember the proper title of this particular sushi dish but it was based off of philly cheese stakes, and I rather enjoyed it! Sushi isn't just about the flavor for me, it's also about how I feel after the meal. And I felt wonderful - fully rejuvenated, not "ugh, full!", and energized. It wasn't just a meal or dinner out, it honestly was delicious - and for me, healthy - food that will have you good for a while. After all, I /had/ to share mine, as I wasn't even able to finish it! In fact, we took some with us to share what we couldn't finish with a friend! As we were leaving, we got a very friendly goodbye, smiles and waves from the staff behind the bar. It surprised me! As they did all look very concentrated and too busy with their work to bother, plus they'd been very quiet when we came in and up until this point, but they were in fact very wonderful....
