My son and I were in the Seattle area on business and ended up with a little bit of time to spare so we searched for a breakfast location and this popped up. My goodness were we thrilled at our find. It had a classic, retro atmosphere, with a pleasant family encouraging vibe. Often when I go to a breakfast establishment, I like to try the eggs, Benedict, as it's one of my favorites. This one was wonderful! The English muffins were toasted to perfection. The salmon, my favorite way to have eggs Benedict, was absolutely cooked to perfection as well. Normally, when I have had salmon Eggs, Benedict, the salmon is a little bit more of a lox style of cold smoked salmon, so this had a unique twist that I had not previously had--a slightly grilled effect--pointing to the fried ham or Canadian bacon original Eggs Benedict. This gave a really neat new twist to my salmon Eggs Benedict. The salmon was rich and flaky and had a plentiful amount on the portion. The eggs were poached perfectly. I like a firm white and a runny yolk as a runny white indicates an undercooked egg--not healthy. These were cooked beautifully! While the hollandaise sauce was maybe not the very best I've had, it was authentic, subtle and well flavored, maybe slightly runnier than I would prefer but given the quality of the overall serving, I could let that pass. The "spicy jacket potatoes" were beautifully cooked--tender yet not overcooked and mushy, nice, and subtly flavored with sweet and succulent, red bell peppers, onions and spices. We had orange juice and coffee. The orange juice tasted like it was fresh squeezed, but I can't guarantee that. The coffee was a nice comforting, smooth coffee with no harsh bitterness. Our our server, Nikki, was great. She was thoughtful, attentive, and friendly without being overbearing, pushy, or intrusive. Next time I am in Seattle, I will be back to this place. It was a pleasant little hidden gem that deserves another visit! Keep up the great service, and...
Read moreThere was no wait for a table of 4 during lunch hours on a Saturday. The service was extremely friendly and the food came out quick. TLDR: I loved the sides of spicy red jacket potatoes and sourdough toast the most. I'm excited to come back again and would definitely recommend to my friends!
Here is everything I tried:
California Benedict ($19) - English muffin topped with avocado, bacon, sliced tomato, spinach, hollandaise sauce, and fresh herbs. Served with hashbrowns or spicy red jacket potatoes AND toast. The potatoes were well seasoned and not too mushy or crispy. The sourdough toast was surprisingly good with the salted butter.
Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs ($19) - Chicken fried steak with country sausage gravy. Served with two eggs, hashbrowns or spicy red jacket potatoes, AND biscuits or toast.
Breakfast Burrito ($16) - Three eggs, spicy red jacket potatoes, bell peppers, onions, pepper jack cheese, your choice of bacon, ham, sausage, veggie sausage, chorizo. Topped with salsa verde and sour cream. Generous portion. Doesn't come with any sides sadly.
Huevos Rancheros ($16) - Two corn tortillas loaded with black bean chili beef, two sunny side eggs, and spicy red jacket potatoes. Topped with salsa verde and sour cream, cheddar, and pepper jack cheese. This is for those that love saucey foods. Doesn't come with any sides sadly.
French Toast ($14) - Got this to-go and it came out hot and quick! It was topped with strawberries + blueberries and came with a side of syrup. Generous portion...
Read moreI woke up to a notification stating that my flight was delayed an hour. Suddenly, the 10am brunch my friend invited me seemed possible. I messaged him, and he said he'd pick up and take me here, to Queen Anne. What I didn't know was that one of his friends' family was there as well as his other friends' partner. I was an intruder! They were fabulously nice and I was grateful to see my friend again--he's the best (see Hopvine review). I had a coffee and then rushed to the airport. I liked the coffee, and, although there's only so much you can do with a diner in the city, I liked the place as well. It was a memorable twenty minutes. Ahh, I am realizing now that there was something I wanted to tell my friend's friend's parents there. It was this: I was at a brewery in Seattle this past summer with my wife and her father (witnesses) when two women sat down by us. One of them had a FredHutch thermos (one I'd wanted for a while). My father-in-law said that we worked at the Hutch, and she asked me if I knew Dominic! That's my friend's friend! Imagine that -- Dominic impacted my life, and, so far, every stranger I've talked with at a brewery in Seattle. Gotta keep these stories in the front of your mind. His parents are German, and, as I'm mentioned, there is this beautiful German phase that goes like this: "you always meet twice." I'll be sure to remember to tell his...
