Search within reviews Yelp Sort W. Gail P. Flagstaff, AZ 02 1/19/2022 I drive down from Flagstaff to Sedona to get my hair done about every six months. I started doing this for many years. Following my hair appointment I always go into Maria's Restaurant and Cantina to celebrate everything including a new hair fix. The restaurant is in the same shopping strip next to my hair appt at Colours Salon. The food is excellant and it is such a treat. Francisco was my Server and he was polite and professional. My food was brought to my table hot and so tasty. I always get a beef tostada with a chile rellano. The tie breaker on this meal was the fact that I have been spending a lot of money on a diet program and I have been really sticking to it. Well, guess what, the food is too good to pass up. It was my get my hair done celebration so cheating on my diet was in order. You will never be sorry. Don't pay attention to bad reviews, fourteen years of going in to Maria's and I have always had a...

Horrible experience. First time i went was May 5, Cinco de Mayo, 8:10pm, they close at 9pm, doors are locked, people inside eating. Called and they said they hadn't expected to be so busy. In other words, they ran out of food.
Okay, thought I'd give it another shot since I was referred there. Order a margarita, it's made in a blender, yuk, poor drink, 1/3 left with ice chips and foam, had asked with salt, didn't get it. So ordered on the rocks. Got salt but so poor i didn't even drink it.
I always order Chili con Queso. BTW, I'm from Texas. They don't have queso on the menu but they do have "cheese dip & chips"! This was a red flag for me but i do love cheese and chips and with a little effort how can you mess this up. I also order cheese enchiladas with onions.
The dip arrives and one look at it, clearly it's nacho cheese dip from a can. NO KIDDING! Even with some jalapeno juice it can be palatable. I tried it 3 times and without a doubt it's simply dip from a can. I explain to the server that's what it is politely and that I didn't care for it. He tries to convince me otherwise and I ask him what kind of cheese is in it. He responds "American, white cheese". No thank you.
So the enchiladas arrive and enchiladas should cut with a fork. I had to use a knife because they had sliced onions inside rather than chopped. I don't mind using a knife but this whole Mexican food idea Maria has already died!
Then i get my bill. They so kindly gave me 1/2 off the "cheese dip and chips" I sent back with the bowl still full. Had to call the manager over, who appeared in soiled shorts and a t-shirt and his reasoning was because he couldn't use the dip anymore which I hope he didn't. I told him i would have eaten it had it not been from a can. I did get credit.
As for the 2 horrible margaritas; one of which i did not drink as it was horrible and I did not complain about anything else but that "cheese and chips"...it happened to be happy hour. I asked about the happy hour price. Told that didn't apply because I didn't order the drinks from the cantina. So apparently i should have ordered the drink at the bar, carried it back to my table, ordered the food and while eating went back to the bar for the 2nd margarita and returned to finish my dinner.
WOW!! Poor customer service, horrible "cheese dip" from a can, don't add onions to your enchiladas, good luck with the margaritas and don't expect the happy hour price...
Read moreThe main door is not labeled. Once I found it, I came in between occupied tables and found my way around to the right past more occupied tables to what appeared to be a hostess stand I asked if they had a bar area to watch the game, she directed me past the door I came in, past that to my right. I immediately noticed 3 chairs in front of a counter the counter was crowded with glasses and other things, but the one and only spot where a person could sit and eat, was being used by an employee. So i waited and was told i could eat at any table, so I chose the closest onto to the ONE AND ONLY TV that was maybe 40" in diameter to watch the game. Patricia took my order of fish tacos and an absolute soda with a lime. The price of the fish tacos was $17.95 so I ASSumed it came with a salad.... nope. Just rice and beans I was advised by Patricia. So I ordered a salad. I was asked if I wanted my salad 1st... yes... my salad came, then my food within 90 seconds I then asked of they served chips and salsa... yes Patricia said. " i will bring you chips and salsa..... what??? I have my salad, within 90 seconds of my salad I have my food and not only do I have to ask for chips and salsa, it comes after my meal? Immediately after delivering my food, while eating my salad, I smell a dirty nasty fish smell I finish my salad, I put salsa, sour cream and guacamole to my taco, hoping the nasty fish smell doesnt transfer to my tastebuds... but it does and its WORSE! I put the taco back on the plate and push it far away. Patricia comes back and I explain the fish is bad it tasted rancid and smelled even worse. She asks me if I want anything else. Leary yet hungry, I order something simple, cheap and deep fried... chicken chimichanga. The chimichunga comes... its decent. I eat 3/4 of it, all of my salad, a few chips and sala. The salsa tasted bland, out of a jar and worse than Pace picante salsa I finished my one and only vodka. Patricia comes with the check... $29.96. Chimichunga was $14.95, salad (lettuce, 2 tomatoe slices, and ranch) $5.95, 1 absolute vodka $9.95 ... + tax. Omg! The decor of the restaurant was dirty, mismatched with ZERO mexican feel, and ZERO accountability for serving bad fish. The bar was VERY limited as are menu choices.... I asked if they had machaca... I was told NO. Save yourself money and possibly your health. do...
