PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU MAKE A RESERVATION: Our great waitress and food truly saved the day. However, for my wife and I, a night out is an experience, away from kids, work, and a time to enjoy your loved one. Maybe its just my age... but there was something missing here... tacky, inappropriate, and just plain odd in my opinion. We dined Sat Feb 10, around 7:00pm The 2 hostess's were no friendly: No smiles, not welcoming, not inviting...great start. Dinner reservations for 6:30... they were busy (i think). We were given the cold option to wait at the bar. we did. As we entered, the lounge (or waiting area) in our opinion was cold in appearance, cold, and way to bright for some reason, limited and uncomfortable seating. We wore jackets in (because of the weather) and didn't notice the coat check next to the hostesses stand until we left. No mention of it either when we arrived. (fast forward to the dining for a moment.. so many other people had their coats hanging off the back oh their chairs, maybe they were not informed of the coat check either?? One of the hostesses was wearing her large puffy jacket of over her outfit (very unprofessional) and walking around the restaurant..? There seemed to be 2 bartenders, or a main one and an assistant? An older one and a younger one... not friendly here either, just blaze' and doing what is to be the norm. No recommendations, no "welcome", no small casual conversation, just handed a drink menu and "hi" 4 Here is the kicker... We figured out who the floor manager was (at this chophouse?)... yes, the one wearing a jogging zip-up with with the collar up?? That is/was the epitome of tackiness. He doesn't own a tie or a long sleeve button up in his arsenal of outfits, just joggers? We even told our waitress that it was our first time there... you would think we'd get at the least, a visit form the manager just to make sure all was going ok.... nope, not here. We never saw him visit any other tables in our area either. Lastly... in my opinion, the dessert menu is very lack luster. I thought I was at olive garden. Although our waitress was excellent, even she had a hard time delivering a verbal of the dessert menu.. she knew it was weak.
Did they do any reconnaissance at all? Have they themselves dined and took notes at other steakhouses/ chophouses? You would think that if you are dropping (on average) 150.00 - 200.00+ for a dinner for 2, that there are some expectations. My wife and I are not rich by any means but have enjoyed many great experiences/meals at many great steakhouses / chophouses over the past 20 years, so is this the new norm? I really hope not. This place opened in our area so that's great, but for us its more that just my filet getting prepared correctly. We want more, we expect more... you should expect more... to be greeted with a smile, the entire staff to be welcoming and friendly, and to look and speak like a professional. We will certainly try this place again, our waitress saved it, along with a well cooked filet. We always "try" dining at a place twice.. however if things remain the same next time, we will simply just dine elsewhere. If you think we are over the top critical, that is your opinion. If you are new to dining out at nicer steakhouses / chophouses... who knows, you may think it's fine... It's not. Expect more, expect professionalism from the entire staff, expect better. We all work hard for our money so get the full experience as you should and deserve. You will elsewhere and you should here. I left out other details that made our list, but didn't want this to any longer than it already is. Best of luck and hope your experience is better...
Read moreI first posted a review Sunday, 10/1 but removed shortly after because I thought for sure, using our reservation information, Mr.G.’s would call Monday to apologize for the worst dining experience of our lives. Saturday, 9/30 my husband and children and I arrived at 7:20pm for our 7:15 reservation. We’d called to let them know we were running late and was told it wouldn’t be an issue. After a short wait, we were seated. After a longer wait, our server appeared to take our drink orders: soft drinks and wine. 30 minutes later we were waiting…
I went to the hostess stand to see if we had been forgotten. The hostess advised us to leave immediately. She said they were very short staffed and the kitchen was running very behind.
When I arrived back at our table, another server brought us a bill. We told them we hadn’t ordered yet. A few minutes later our original server arrived to take our order and give us our wine. They were out of soft drinks she said…
We asked about the kitchen being behind and she said, It’s not looking good. We told her we wouldn’t be ordering because it was 45 minutes for 2 glasses of wine. She left and another server / mgr returned with a bill.
A bill - for wine we had to drink quickly, pay for, and leave in search of dinner at 8:15pm.
Like the hostess, I am advising others to avoid Mr.G.’s. Everyone everywhere has bad nights. Everyone everywhere knows how to deliver an apology. I did receive a text from Mr.G.’s on Monday inviting me to prepay for an upcoming coursed dinner! ...
Read moreHad dinner with a friend. Overall a pretty decent experience and I would go back. Prices are a bit high, there is a fairly large menu with lots of options. The service was friendly but slow and possibly overwhelmed. Warm bread, butter and water were delivered promptly. We ordered the baked clams, which were excellent. Possibly the highlight of the meal. I had the steak frites. I did not receive the mini Caesar, and didn't realize it until after I left, so can't comment on that. The steak was a good size, tender, and perfectly cooked, served with a truffle compound butter. The fries were nicely cooked, served with a side of standard ketchup. My dining companion ordered the salmon. It was also a good portion, she enjoyed the rice, salsa and edamame served with it. She reported that the salmon was a bit overcooked, but was able to eat most of it enjoyably. We split a creme brulee which was competent but uninspired. The actual creme/custard was very bland. But it was nicely bruleed with a perfectly cooked nicely thin crust. We tried three cocktails, the gin and juice was very good, not too sweet, the negroni was well balanced and the smoked old fashioned was just as described. My biggest complaint was the slow service/flow of the meal. Food and drinks both took a very long time to arrive at the table, resulting in a meal that took over two hours for three courses from time of ordering. It took at least 20 minutes for cocktails. And the restaurant was roughly 1/2 full while we were there on a...
