Absolutely a hidden gem!! Let me start by telling you about the bread.. BEST BREAD EVER! It was a small loaf of freshly baked bread, cut crisscross, buttered, and topped with something similar to "everything bagel" spice, but better! Then came my wedge salad. I don't even like salad and I took it to-go when I left because the dressing was divine! The dressing, I don't know what he called it, was creamy and heavily peppered. 10/10 I had the burger. It was cooked to perfection, the cheese was perfect, and the bun was so fresh! The fries were great too! My bf had the steak. It was buttery, perfectly cooked, and so flavorful. Perfect!! And the pièce de résistance was the au gratin potatoes that came as a side. Besides my dear grandmother's, these were the best au gratin potatoes EVERRR. The restaurant was cozy, only a few booths and hidden off to the side of the bar. Despite being kind of inside the bar, there was no bar noise and the candlelight made it cozy and romantic. The service was spectacular. This may be my new favorite restaurant in Shreveport!! 10/10 on everything!

I have been a patron of The Cub for years. As a 20 something I used to go there to play pool on week nights. As a 50 something I am enjoying is one of Shreveport's staples when it comes to Steak Houses. The experience at The Cub is like eating in a fine pair of shoes, shoe box. It's a tiny place rooted in history complemented by excellent food. I would expect nothing less than a 5 star for their food. Over time, the place has become a little dingy with the smoke stained ceilings and 50's worn out fixtures. But, that's what makes it "The Cub." In front of The Cub was an awesome place called Murals. I hated to see that magnificent greasy spoon go. Such an awesome hamburger sit down joint. It's now a Whataburger. Nothing against Whataburger, but Murals was a force of its own when it comes to burger food.

I heard about this place from the guy at the bar. Decided to go. Service was great. The waiter was so nice and kind. Interesting place, not usual atmosphere. It is hard to explain but it is absolutely different feom other restaurants. I decided to go with steak, medium rare. That was a mistake. First it came rare, barely warm. They took it to cook a bit. Came back still rare but burnt. Meat cut was not that good, hard to chew. It was too much of the seasoning in my taste. A bit expensive place.

Not that I didn't know what to expect with regards to the size and location, because I did. It's a very small and quaint restaurant in the back of a little old Shreveport iconic lounge. The Cub has a reputation for extremely good food and priced to match. It, unfortunately, only lived up to half it's reputation. Went on the Wednesday b4 valentine's day. We started with an appetappetizer of pickled artichoke hearts. It tasted like it was poured right out of the Campbell's soup can it was purchased in.....Next, I had the chefs special porterhouse medium-rare (39) wife had the NY strip medium well (35). Each meal came with a side and wedge salad. We both had house ranch dressing on ours and it was actually quite delicious! (1 star) We both ordered an extra side with our steak, (9 x2) I got sautéed mushrooms and sautéed green beans. Mushrooms were disgusting as they were cooked in the exact sauce the steak was cooked in, which proly is a spoiler to the steak. Green beans were straight from the fresh produce aisle of the local supermarket. You'd think good right? But they weren't washed or the bean stem removed, so every bean consumed required the spitting out of a stem...Wife ordered the asparagus and potatoes both of which came out perfectly. (1 star) Now for the steaks. Wife's was over cooked a little, but not bad. She tolerated it. Mine however was well done. Ordered medium-rare and it was served as jerky. Can't send it back to be uncooked a little. And based on the obvious ongoing debate between the McDonald's cook behind the half door and our track suit wearing server over the NBA on the tv, I wasn't going to chance it with requesting another steak. The bill was $114 with wife drinking water and I just a coke (from a Styrofoam cup) and no dessert.

I've had meals 10x better from Applebee's. I despise Applebee's

I've had this exact meal from Jack Binion's steak house and it was excellent and cheaper. Oh and my wife says the...

A group of us came here. It was a nice place for pool and drinks, but the bartender was horrible. He didn’t know how to make May drinks we asked for so we settled for beer. He argued with us when we told him how to make drinks, claiming there is no such drink. It was ridiculous. He was hollering across the bar at us and pointing directly at us but when confronted about his behavior, he wouldn’t admit anything and claimed he was HOLLERING at the two people right next to him at the bar. Very unprofessional and we will never come again. Every time we paid extra to have a song played, it would get cancelled out if it wasn’t in English. He claimed he had nothing to do with that and once again was very unprofessional ! He clearly felt a type of way towards someone that wasn’t his kind. And yes, we felt very uncomfortable and disrespected, while we were only there trying to have a fun time as paying customers. There are much better places to go and this is our first and last time to come here. If you ever felt like you’re in a place that is prejudiced and felt uncomfortable, don’t go here. Good...

We walked in through the bar, which is a noisy little dive bar that smells like old ashtrays. We were about to turn away when we saw a little door labelled "Cafe". Worth a look. The Cafe is a little windowless, dimly lit room with seating for maybe 30. The door keeps out the sound and smell of the bar. We ordered two drinks from the bar and squinted at the menus. The chalk board said Osso Buco, an old favorite of mine, so we both ordered it. The meal came with a simple wedge salad, slathered with a very good house-made peppercorn ranch dressing. The main dish was a good sized pile of lightly garlic-ed mashed potatoes, a nice chunk of Rosso buco, and some young green beans. Everything was delicious, right down to the last dab of the exquisite gravy I swabbed up with some great soft bread. Best I have had since Mom's, and I may be a little prejudiced there. The only downside was the tab. No price on the chalkboard and we hadn't asked. Total bill: $116.00 !!! Sticker shock! Love the food but were a LOT surprised by the bill. Save this place for...
