First the positives: I must say that their service is amazing! They are not usually busy when I go so they are very attentive and friendly and polite.
The atmosphere I enjoy because they play the traditional Chineese/Japanese relaxing music unlike the place mear them that plays modern radio music. The lighting is dim, they have plants and things that make it very pleasant.
I did get chineese there once and it was not bad, tho they did mess up my order and I had to go back for my egg rolls they had forgotten..
The negatives: As others have mentioned the place is very basic/dated tho and the booths you can tell are old because the cushions are worn and are not very comfortable.
As far as their sushi goes, I tried 5 different rolls that I normally love from other places and was extremely disappointed. They skimp on the good stuff (like the meat and avacado) inside and they are small. The one roll they even left out ingredients that were normally in it.. It usually comes with avocado and instead they just put a bunch of celery with the most tiny sliver of shrimp you could imagine. It also should have had those little red eggs on top but they did not.
When I asked why it was missing those things they said they just make their rolls different.. I asked for them to give me the things that were missing and they were happy to without charging me, tho I had been there a few times before so they looked at me as a regular. The ginger had no taste to it. Their pot stickers were almost all rice inside too. Even their hot tea seemed watered down.
Now I will say a couple booths down I heard a guy complimenting the sushi chef wanting to tip them, so maybe it is hit or miss.. or maybe my standards are higher because I have been to a lot of amazing places, so all I know are mine were not good. (Even Giant makes them better) The best of the 5 was my spider roll, the worst were the Volcano and Boston rolls.
Maybe they are close to going out of business and thats why their quality is lower.. if that is the case I feel bad writing this because they do seem nice, but their lack of quality food will be causing me to not come back and others should have a heads...
Read moreStopped by here traveling into PA from MD and boy was this place a pleasant surprise! The owner is eccentric; singing and greeting his regulars by name from across the store, but his, at times pervasive, sense of joy can be felt during your dining experience.
This restaurant is located in the strip with the Walmart towards the other end, located conveniently right off 83 for the hungry traveler.
Greeted with a friendly hello, we were directed to sit anywhere we'd like. The menu is large, so a little daunting for someone like me that usually needs to do some recon the night before. When in doubt I go with whatever speaks to me from the Chef's Special.
We ordered Scallion Pancake, Schezuan Wonton's, Hot&Sour Soup, Seafood Tempura, and Crispy Beef. And TL;DR, I would 100% stop by here whenever in the area.
Our appetizers and soup came out in mere minutes with a complimentary order of fresh fried wonton chips and sweet & sour dipping sauce. Hot&Sour soup was tasty with even sour tang to keep me interested. Scallion pancakes were very interesting, using egg whites to bind scallions between two crispy, puffy tortillas. The Schezuan wonton were a bit dense, but good flavor with a peanut butter sauce.
And then the entrees arrived. Huge portions; more family style orientated of ordering a few entrees and sharing. A wide platter of crispy beef freshly drenched in sauce came out. The cornstarch style batter is delightful. Think Beijing beef from Panda Express, except not soggy with more depth of flavor. The crisp delicate cascade of texture like stepping through a foot of fresh snow. Sauce with good body flowing over. I never stood a chance.
Even more so when the mound of fried tempura came out. Shrimp, scallop, crab sticks, broccoli, green beans, and my favorite sweet potato tempura carefully piled onto a huge plate. I need to get back to this review when we finish, because between my partner and I we it was too much food. Air fryers are magic for take home goodies like this.
So yea I'm getting sleepy so I'll just finish off saying, please stop by and try this unassuming restaurant tucked away in this strip. Best $40, we've...
Read moreMy friend and I ate there this past week for lunch. The service was awful. The server never once checked to see if everything was ok. My friend had to take an important call just as the food came. (She went outside so as not to annoy others.) She ended up only eating a few bites of her lo mein since it had gotten cool - not the restaurant’s fault at all but she wanted to take it home. We had seen other tables get boxes at their tables for their leftovers but when we finally got our server so we could ask for boxes he took our food to the back and brought it back boxed up. My friend’s lo mein had been cut in half - you could see where a knife had cut it. So she got half her meal. I was charged $1.50 for brown rice though there is no place that says brown rice is extra. I’ve never been charged extra there before. I complained as we paid and he took off the $1.50 charge and claimed the server would never take the food. Well someone did. This is the first time I have ever not left a tip at a restaurant. I will never go back. What a...
