Our room was very dirty, seemingly not cleaned fully before our arrival or during our week long stay. Significant amounts of dog hair on carpet. Tape on walls like someone hung a banner. Sheets were dirty and had hair in them. We requested a linens change and they did provide that. We were supposed to have adjoining rooms and confirmed this a few days before arrival, but at check in were told they could not accommodate because someone smoked in the room last night and it had to be taken out of service. We were told by the front desk that the person paid cash and it happens often with cash customers but they have no recourse. We had to have one member of our family sleep on a pull out as they had no other 2 queen rooms available. Wish they would have called to discuss with us before check in, we could have contacted other local hotels and found different accommodations. Breakfast was fine. Typical for Hampton Inn but sparse in quantity. Example, they “ran out of milk” one day. We are literally across from a shopping center. They put out many small boxes of cereal but only one carafe of 2% milk for the whole buffet. They place out mini 1-2 yogurts on the buffet and if you don’t get one, you have to ask for more which they may or may not offer depending on who is working. We had a varying experience with hotel staff. Some very kind and friendly and others curt and unhelpful. Some days breakfast was cleaned up and essentially closed before 10am and other days they walked around and said we are closing in 5 min please grab anything else you need at 10:10. The pool deck was dirty with what appeared to be a trail of dog poo. The pool itself was clean and warm. Overall they seemed understaffed and that affected our experience. We stay at a lot of Hilton properties, gold members, so comparatively this was a lesser experience. Very near shops, restaurants, and the highway. Easy access to Baltimore, York, Gettysburg, or Lancaster. Felt safe and parking was well lit. Refrigerator and microwave in every room. Both...

The long story: We were traveling up north from Georgia and ended up being forced to stop driving due to weather. This was the closest hotel, and the only one for miles. It is in a great location, near Walmart, Cracker Barrell, and several other stores and restaurants. We arrived at an odd time (6 am) after driving all night. The attendant behind the desk was excellent, taking care of all of our needs and allowing us a late check out time since we were needing sleep, but not wanting to stay the night. The food for breakfast is your typical hotel breakfast, but the dining area is superb. There is plenty of room to sit, as well as comfortable seating. The lobby is welcoming and has a seating area as well as a box of games and some megablocks for the kids. This was important to us because one of us had to sleep while the other played with the toddler. The fitness room is small, but has some exercise machines, medicine balls, and a yoga ball. The indoor pool is not large, but it is good sized for a hotel. There is plenty of pool side seating as well. The laundry facilities are coin opperated, one high efficiency washer and 2 dryers (not high efficiency). The cost to run them is 1.50 each. There is a place to sit and wait (or in my case a room to contain a toddler) while you wait for your laundry, or you can leave it. There is soap up at the front desk if it is needed. We were put in a room with two queen beds, a fridge, microwave, desk, and plenty of space. The room was spotless, and the beds comfortable. I would have been fine staying in this room for an extended period of time if it was needed. There was room to set up the portable crib (we were also offered one upon arrival, but had brought our own). The bathroom has shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, lotion, hand soap, and bar soap. The water pressure and temperature were both excellent. I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area and...
Read moreI've stayed at this Hampton Inn Shrewsbury once before and I really liked it so I came back. I will NEVER come here again. I only stayed for one night for business and when I arrived at my room there was hair in the tub and hair on the pillows. I didnt think that was a huge deal but I contacted the front desk just to let them know. I was switched to another room that was fine---until the next morning.
I woke up this morning and felt something crawling on my arms. When I checked my arms, I didnt see anything. When I got out of bed a nasty roach crawled on my pillow. THAT was crawling feeling I felt. I told the front desk and all the lady said that answered the phone was "Um ok," before connecting me to the manager. The manager told me that it wasn't a roach, it wasnt the season for roaches in Shrewsbury, and that it was a pumpkin bug. I looked up pumpkin bugs on the internet and it was a ROACH! Roaches come out spring, summer, fall and winter and I don't understand why the manager could not understand that.
My main issue with the staff at this hotel was the fact that they did not care that a roach was calling on me. As I mentioned before, when I first called the front desk, the woman who answered did not care. The manager told me, "Well, we compensated your room last night for the hair so that's all we can do." His voice was very insincere and he made it seem like I was trying to get out of paying for my room. Let me assure you that this is NOT the case. I travel OFTEN for business, I have no need to falsely complain about something as disgusting as a roach crawling on me in bed. I also do not appreciate the fact that the manager insulted my intelligence by mentioning that the roach, that I know I say, was not a roach. For Hampton to pride itself on customer service, I must say that I was apalled at how this situation was handled. The fact that my room was compensated means nothing to me if the hotel staff cannot even offer me a sincere apology for...
