Eight years ago was the last time I dined at Azteca and it will be another eight years before I eat there again. It disappoints me to have to rate this establishment a 2 star, but it was evident to me that eight years later and not a lot has changed. The five of us showed up 10:55 am (Azteca officially opens at 11 am) the doors were open, so we decided to go in; the host wasn't very excited that we came walked in and he made a point to let us know that we were early, although it was only by a few minutes; and the doors where already opened! I nicely explained to him that we understood that we wouldn't be seated until 11, but I had my 91-year-old mother with me, and she needed to sit down, after all, it was only 5 minutes. He said nothing and walked away, returning a few minutes later, I asked him if we could avoid a booth and have a table and chairs, again he didn't say anything but grabbed some menus and proceeded to walk away, I asked if we should follow and he shook his head yes. After extensively looking over a menu with a large variety of items, everyone felt a tad overwhelmed. Our server, who was at least a little friendlier than the host, ask to take our drink orders, I felt he wasn't too fond that three out of five us was drinking only water, especially after he said: "That is it? you are only having water?" On to the meal itself, I won't go into detail about everyone's meal but my own, although we all felt our lunch was mediocre at best. I had a Deluxe taco salad with chicken that lied in a deep-fried shell. Although the mixture as a whole was OK in taste I wasn't very impressed by the lack of ingredients a Deluxe taco salad should hold. There was plenty of lettuce; I would say a little too much lettuce, some chicken, that was lightly seasoned- I couldn't taste seasoning myself, but after inspecting the chicken it looked as though there was some seasoning on it, apparently not enough. Very little cheese, tomatoes and a minimal amount of guacamole (I ask to hold the sour cream) my guess (of course it is only a guess) a tablespoon of each at best. What happened to the beans, onions, and cilantro that is generally in a taco salad?? Some Chicken taco salads even come with corn, at least give me a decent amount of tomato, cheese, and guacamole. Any specialty dressings (or any dressings at all) being offered, nope not for me, so I used the salsa that came with the tortilla chips. My Deluxe taco salad with chicken was bland and not very authentic, and shouldn't be called a "Deluxe Taco Salad" in my opinion. Our server (who was not wearing a name tag) came to our table three more times, one time to give us water and our bill, the second time was to pick up our payment and last time, to return the cards that we paid with. I ended up asking another server if we could get some to-go boxes because our server disappeared. No one there said Thank you or asked how our lunch was, or if we needed anything else, very disappointing! What I noticed by glancing around our area is the restaurant looked clean, the tables we saw around us were fresh looking, and the carpet looked swept; of course, we were there as they opened. I'm unable to provide an opinion of the restrooms. Azteca lies within a relatively large shopping area that has a variety of other food and stores, so parking isn't an issue. And the surrounding parking lots do appear clean. Perhaps we rubbed the host and our server the wrong way where we came inside. I don't know, but what I do know is keep the doors shut until you are ready to let customers come in. Some people love this place; I do not care for it myself; so if you visit this restaurant go into it knowing that the Mexican food is Americanized, you may encounter not such a friendly staff, and their prices are on the higher side, in my opinion, at least for...
Read moreI really hate leaving negative reviews but I will ever eat here again. I would advise you do not order the Lamb! As I am typing I am sitting here with the worst case of food poisoning ever! I ordered the lamb and ceviche. The ceviche was ok but overpriced and the Lamb was rubbery and undercooked! I woke up the next day with the worst stomach ache, I also ended puking my brains out after eating my left overs. Also when I went to pick up my food the staff were rude. Followup: It is now day three of my severe food poisoning from this place. I have been vomiting three days in a row and have lost several pounds already. I am calling the department of health first thing tomorrow. I have never had food poisoning to where I have high fevers, diarrhea, and tons of vomiting. I tested for Covid and it was negative so I know this is definitely from eating dirty meat. There has been a rise of Hepatitis A in the food industry and after this incident I need to take a break from doing any dining in or take out! Three weeks later update: I am finally able to eat and drink! The food poisoning produced tape worm larva! This was a new infection that i got as a result of eating from this place. I had larva and worms come out during painful diarrhea episodes a week and a half later. I am still recovering with the help of my DR but At least I am able to finally add to this review to warn others. Some of these parasites come from dirty preparation of food. The owner did refund me and offered to pay for my medical treatment but of course I only got a refund because he changed his mind at the last minute to pay for my medical. Luckily I have insurance and I believe strongly in Karma. Please read the reviews on Yelp before eating at this place or any place. Since this incident I no longer eat at this place cleanliness is a factor for me and this place has failed. Thank you...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I just left here a little bit ago. We were looking for a nice authentic Mexican meal and we got served the opposite.. I ordered the Plato Mexicano with a a little bit of everything including a Chile Reno, carne asada, a single taquito, rice & beans and on the picture showed avocado but I had no avocados on my plate. My boyfriend got a macho burrito with ground beef & rice With a bunch of lettuce on top with some weird white dressing that looked similar to ranch drizzled on top. We were both very disappointed in our very very very bland meals. My skirt steak tasted like plain meat, way over cooked and chewy, my taquito was very burnt, rice was not seasoned what so ever my Chile Reno was swimming in some sort of orange reddish sauce that was really bland the cheese inside was a very weird chunky texture and tasted like old cheese I only took a few bites from my plate and did not take any home in a box not worth it and a waste of 23$ I took a bite of my boyfriend’s burrito and I was very disappointed in how bland it was and how small it was based on the burritos name “macho burrito”!! Their salsa that traditionally comes with chips and bean dip when you initially sit down and traditionally supposed to be home made fresh was clearly not homemade or fresh no spice to their salsa very watery no chuncks of onions or fresh cilantro and had a very very weird tang to it I took one bite and didn’t touch the salsa again. I thought it was going to make me sick. Not coming here again. I would have gave this review no stars but you have to at least put one star to post a review On this site. WOULD NOT recommend this restaurant for authentic...
