Mixed race family refused service by blonde woman with black rimmed glasses after waiting for over a half hour at a table on a Monday afternoon. We saw her repeatedly go to tables and take orders from people that were sat after us, so we knew something was wrong. Then we saw her return to those tables multiple times and still refuse to come greet us for the first time.
We attempted to flag her down and she ignored us. When she came to the table right next to us, my husband turned around and said, "Excuse me ma'am. Do you mind if we order?" In spite of how we had been treated, he was very polite the way that he asked because he is a dignified man; 21-year veteran of the armed forces. Her response was shocking. She almost growled at us. She was visibly furious that we actually forced her to acknowledge our presence after she had made such a point to ignore us and she made that very clear.
She rolled her eyes, made a very loud sigh, and to our surprise did not say yes. She raised her voice and said, "I'm trying to catch up on my WORK!" I then said, " We have been waiting for half an hour and you have been taking orders from tables that were sat after us and not acknowledging that we are here not even looking at us." She then shockingly said, "We don't have the staff to take your order."
She spoke to us as if we were bums asking her for money. Or something that was some socially inappropriate annoyance. Not only what she said which was completely untrue because we were the ONLY people in the restaurant NOT being served, also the way she said it made it very clear she had simply decided there was something personal against us that she decided she was REFUSING to serve us and her tone and gestures were extremely hateful. In front of our child no less. I asked her in disbelief what was her problem?
At that point my husband calmly stood up and said, "It doesn't matter what her problem is. We are going to leave now. This is unacceptable." It was really outrageous. It was far past rude. It was discrimination, outright discrimination. A clear violation of our federal civil rights.
We had been watching her for a very long time, and she had been going out of her way to be extremely polite to every other customer. Poorly dressed, morbidly obese, old, young, heavily tattooed customers. The only thing that was different about us was that my husband is ethnic. Why did she choose us to be so outrageously hateful? Why did she refuse us service? That appears to be the reason. I am very sorry to say. A very disgusting reason considering that is why we chose not to retire in the South, and considering he risked his life for 21 years, so ungrateful and hateful people like that young lady can enjoy the freedoms and safety that they do everyday. What an utter disgrace.
We will be contacting the general manager, corporate for IHOP, and depending on how those two entities handle the situation, a civil rights attorney as well. We never got the woman's name because of course she was certainly not honorable enough to introduce herself but she will certainly be identified and brought to justice. I do not recommend this establishment.
We went here because like many people I'm sure, I had just been discharged from the hospital following surgery and it was the closest casual place to sit down and have a predictable meal. What a disaster that turned out to be. We ended up sitting in a parking lot after a lot of wasted time and hurt feelings having McDonald's in our car. And that was a far better experience than dealing with this IHOP location.
BBB Rating "F": when I went to start my round of complaints, I learned that this business is not accredited, they have one out of five stars on BBB, and the lowest rating I...
Read moreIt has been quite a while since I have eaten food from IHOP, let alone inside an IHOP. Today my cousin wanted to dine at IHOP for lunch; although having some qualms about it knowing that I probably wouldn't be able to find anything on the less fattening side, I agreed to do so. We were seated within minutes of walking in with menus; the hostess asked if we wanted something to drink, and we did our usual ice water with lemons and straws.
My cousin immediately knew what she wanted; on the other hand, I flipped through the menu, hoping to see something healthier pop out; unfortunately, that would not be the case, as I suspected.
I settled for the chicken quesadillas, no sour cream, extra jalapenos, and salsa. My cousin had a roasted turkey sandwich with fries off the 55 and up menu.
Although my chicken quesadillas were flat and sparse on the ingredients, they tasted good. Inside, between the two tortilla shells, there were a few small pieces of chicken, grilled onions, peppers, and very little cheese, which was ok by me; I meant to ask for light cheese and forgot to. I would expect more for the price, but it suited me fine this time; anyone else may want to look for alternatives. My cousin liked her roasted turkey sandwich with tomato, lettuce, cheese, and mayo on multigrain bread. Her fries were nothing extraordinary but decent in taste. Her sandwich was a decent size; I could not imagine someone in the older generation eating that entire sandwich in one sitting.
The restaurant was clean, but areas of it were a little dated. The little carafe they leave at your table looks worn and needs to be replaced.
The syrups, as was the table, were sticky the last time I dined there. This time, although not handling them, they appeared clean, not goopy.
Our server Samantha was friendly and helpful and checked on us a few times, which was plenty; she had a lovely smile and engaged in small chat, but once she brought our bill, she disappeared, never to be seen again at least not by us. We waited around fifteen minutes and figured she would be back; after all, she never said thanks for coming or have a great day, please pay upfront; she dropped the check at our table and proofed! she never returned.
This leaves me to the last part of this review; the parking has been and will always be a pain, especially now that nearly every spot in front of IHOP is no longer available for the dine-in customer.
So our experience could have been better, but it could have been much worse. Eventually, we will try a late breakfast there. In the meantime, I gave IHOP a three-star in hopes that I can change it to a four-star experience next time.
Silverdale, Washington's IHOP location is 3150 NW Bucklin Hill Road. They share the same building with Little Ceasers Pizza, next door to a Starbucks, within feet of a Fire Stone Auto center, and walking distance of several other businesses and restaurants.
Thank you for supporting our local workers and small businesses around our area! Please remember to be kind to ALL living...
Read moreordered online came in at the exact time the online app said it would be done, after seating three people standing in line before me, host never came back to help me. after a young man named Brandon I believe, not sure, came in from the back to put away menus, I finally helped in witch case I was informed that my order was behind. after sitting for 20mins I was able to ask bout the status witch I was informed that it needed to be bagged but the young man was running around helping the guests that were seated with drinks and things. somehow my order made it up to the counter without either of us knowing it and when spotted he tried to hand it to me at witch time I mentioned my oj with my sampler combo and the lady that ignored me after seating those guest at the beginning came by and basically dismissed me stating that "it wasnt on the receipt so have a great day" when I tried to ask for help navigating the online site to show my order all she said was " I don't know" again handing my order to me and telling me to "have a great day" no real customer service then being brushed off as if I didn't know what I paid for nor any type of caring of my order or satisfaction. when getting home with the order they gave me my country fried steak was just a slab of meat no gravy whatsoever and when calling about it there was a back and forth about the oj again not on receipt even tho that doesn't change the no gravy when offered to refund the order the man on the phone tried to go back on his offer of refund untill pressure made him surrender the refund, even then at witch time he said he would but wasn't doing the action untill a confirmation #was requested and he stated that he had to type it in and after witch wasn't able to give such assurance that it was done.. the help was running around doing everyone's jobs no one was in a specified position and honestly I don't know who was in charge and running the floor. if it was the lady that dismissed me who was in charge of the floor I fear her abilities to do so. with her lack of concern of my presence at the front to help me to her in mature joking with staff while guests were waiting to be helped to her insufficient abilities of solving problems and doing so with graceful customer service. instead she seamed to do nothing of any kind of help and insured that the customer left upset and with the feel of being...
