My experience at the Chipotle in Silverdale was so frustrating and disrespectful.
I went in to order two bowls to go, and from the beginning, the vibe was off. I was being served by a guy with tribal tattoos on his arms (Matthew). For the first bowl, I asked for steak. He gave me a tiny scoop—maybe 8 little pieces—so I politely asked for more. He looked annoyed and said, “I’ll get in trouble for this,” but eventually gave me what looked like a regular portion. Why not just serve the correct amount to begin with?
Then I asked for barbacoa on the second bowl. He literally scraped the bottom of the container for leftovers and meat juice. No real chunks—just bits and liquid. I debated whether to say something, especially after already having to ask for more steak. But I spoke up and said it wasn’t enough. He took the bowl over to the online order station, saw there was no more meat, and with attitude, said it would be three minutes for fresh barbacoa. I told him I’d wait.
While I was waiting, I asked if he was okay because of the clear attitude he was giving me. I had been polite the entire time and couldn't understand why I was being treated like a problem. He then dumped all the leftover meat juice into my bowl and asked if I “still wanted more.” I said yes. He sarcastically asked, “What’s the difference between what I’m giving you and the meat that’s coming out?” I told him, “You didn’t give me meat—you gave me juice and scraps. I want chunks of meat.”
The customer next to me—being served by the girl with the two buns—got a massive serving of meat without even asking for more. So why was I being shorted and treated differently?
Eventually, the guy brought out the fresh barbacoa from the back and added a good amount, but the attitude continued. Then the girl with two buns on her head told me I’d be charged extra. I was honestly shocked—why should I be charged extra when all I did was ask for the proper serving in the first place, after being given liquid and leftovers?
I paid, left, and realized the bowl was leaking all over my car seat because of all the juice. The paper bag tore and I had to put the bowl on the floor to keep it from getting worse. I walked back in to get napkins and talk to the manager. (Eva)
But before I could even explain what happened, the girl with the buns ran over and got to the manager first, painting me out like I came in just to complain. When I finally got a chance to speak, the manager had clearly already made up her mind. She stood by the staff’s version of the story, offered no apology, and simply said she could give me customer service info and her name. She did ask if I wanted the bowl remade, but I told her no—I was too focused on cleaning up the mess in my car.
Let me be clear: this wasn’t just about portion sizes. This was about being disrespected, dismissed, and treated unfairly for calmly asking for a proper serving of food I paid for. The way I was handled by the staff was completely out of line, and the manager’s lack of accountability just made it worse.
I’ve always been respectful every time I come in, and I expect the same in return. I hope this gets the attention of someone who actually cares about how customers...
Read more10/2/22 Final Update: I gave this location one last try as I love Chipotle. However I’ll never return after today and the interaction I just observed will make it clear why. I just saw a lady get charged more than DOUBLE for a kids meal, despite nearly everything on the line being out. This is egregious, but not the issue. When she questioned the cashier, no joke, the employee stated that “it’s not my fault!” in the snottiest manner possible. Then whose fault is it as YOU rang it up. That’s the problem, no employee here takes any sort of responsibility for their job and instead blames the customer for everything. I done, so so done with this location and maybe even Chipotle at this point…
9/15/22 Update: it’s current 8pm, TWO HOURS before this location closes and the staff is already putting everything away for the night. Why stay open if you aren’t going to serve customers?
12/1/21 Update: ok, if I thought this place was bad before I have no words to describe what it is now. No one here seems to have ANY interest in doing their job and the shrinking customer base is proof. There were 12 people waiting for to go orders when I walked in. Why? The staff are completing roughly one order ever 15 minutes! No joke! I’ve been eating at Chipotles all over the west cost for nearly 2 decades and I’ve never seen anything like this!
I decided to give this Chipotle one more try. My order is the three items closest to the register. Rather than putting it in a bag and handing it to me, the worker is continuing to make other orders as mine gets cold on the counter. Thanks…
9/20/21 10:55am No joke there is a line both at the to go shelf and the regular service and not a single person is being helped. The staff is looking at customers like “why are you here?!” despite the store opening 10 minutes ago. Who is running this location?!
I’ve been to dozens of Chipotles and this one is at the bottom of the list. They were 20 minutes late with an order I placed online despite literally dozens of walk in customers ordering and getting their food before...
Read moreWe took some students to The Trail after a field trip yesterday, and the students came with cash. But apparently THIS store requires exact change? So if a student didn't have the exact amount, the store was literally going to steal the remainder (or at least the coin part of it!) What???!!! How do you even balance the til at the end of the day??? "Oh look, we're $17 over today because we short-changed all of our cash-paying customers! Pocket the difference!"
How is this even legal?!
We no longer have a coin shortage, people. This is just irresponsible business practice. It's dishonest. And it's thievery. Even corner lemonade stands tend to have this figured out.
I ended up paying for my students, and they will pay me back.
You DID make MY chaperoning responsibility easier, though, so thank you-- the vast majority of our students and other chaperones saw this note and chose to eat at other establishments. With 70+ students eating, you got 4. And one adult--me. And I had no choice. Trust me, even though I was paying via card, on principle alone i would have visited another establishment.
I will not likely return. Put on your big kid pants and go to the bank and fill your register with the appropriate amount of change! It's not that difficult to ask for a roll of quarters, dimes, nickels, or pennies, or a stack of ones--You have to go to the bank anyway! Every other business seems to manage it; figure out how to use your words and run your business appropriately!
I'll be reporting this the the BBB as well. These notes didn't seem like they were posted yesterday. And, judging from the long lists of posts about similar Chipotle practices all over the country online, this seems like a top-down business policy. How tacky.
TLDR: The food was fine, the but business practices of Chipotle left a pretty foul taste...
