I have been a loyal customer here for YEARS. My order always consists of at least a dozen but, often times, two or more dozens of assorted donuts and specialty pastry items. I noticed it seems a new owner has taken over, because the sweet, nice little lady that used to be in there is no longer there, many items are no longer available (the chocolate/vanilla twists), thr donuts are much smaller but, yet the price has increased tremendously, the honey buns are now a "two-bite" wafer, and the new lady is extremely impatient and rude. While I was deciding upon which different assortment I would purchase, she kept rushing me, making suggestions for me, to speed up my selections ( at first I was the ONLY customer in there, then 1 man came in towards the end of my 10th selection out of my 12th), she started to get rude. I decided to allow the man to go, while I selected beverages, all he wanted was 2 pigs-in-a-blanket. My order ended up around $14, for these tiny pastries, that she was able to squeeze them on two separate small styrofoam containers. When the previous owners were there, a dozen of assorted would fit it a large flat box, snug fit. These 12 were dancing around in space, in a small container. I will not be going back here. The quality has changed drastically. That warm welcome and customer appreciation as GONE! Those prices are ridiculous, and they know it but, could care less. The jelly donut, was more like a...
Read moreUpdate: haven't been here for a few months. What happened to this place? New owners maybe. Donuts are terrible overcooked lacking texture and taste. Will never return after today. Ended up throwing away the two donuts i bought. The lady seemed annoyed I came to buy a donut. Who does that if you want to make money. Ray's is the best place, or go to Sarah's donuts off pike street. Officially done with the "donut king". Don't have much time? Go across the street to Duncan. This place is trash. BTW, if you see any positive review in the last 4 or 5 months, I guarantee it's fake. No way anyone who frequents a donut shop can say stale leftover donuts are good.
Love this place. They are the second best shop in the area. Ray's donuts are superior. However because of rays inconsistent hours this is my go to But I'm so disappointed the morning of October 4th they put out burnt greasy apple fritters. I only purchased one because of how they looked but I trusted they would be as good as usual. Completely inedible. I'm sure they knew they were not to standard. Longtime customer so may return, just disappointing should not...
Read moreI admire the relative simplicity and straightforwardness of this place. It's called Donut King, and they are clearly serious about DONUTS. No nonsense. No sandwiches, no frappés, no slushies or freezes, no cake, no brownies, no sugar and artificial dye-filled "unicorn" drinks... Just donuts. Simple as. The only non-donut items they seem to have are a small selection of coffees and juices as well as, interestingly, pigs in a blanket. Unfortunately, when I went, the latter was in short supply.
However, I have a major complaint, and that is the hours. I get that donuts are usually breakfast food, and Donut King wants to capitalize on that, but their hours are far too short. Only 5:30 AM to Noon. With these hours, they surely attract dozens of people who need a quick breakfast on their way to work and other such customers, but they miss out on all the people who want donuts after breakfast. Perhaps they can't afford to operate longer, and if so, that's understandable. But otherwise, I wish they...
