Cute little diner. We were seated towards the back. The morning rush was slowly dissapating. We were attended to right away. Atmosphere was charming and welcoming....unless you like to wash your hands with soap and water. Ya-no soap to be found-super effing gross right? Close to finishing our meal, I went to the One and only rest room in the diner. I aren't to wash up and...there was NO SOAP!!! I let management know right away. He said he would take care of it. We had been watching people use the restroom --including staff for our entire visit. 30 minutes later after staying with the manager, there was still no soap!!!! Um...what was the staff using to wash their hands?
I digress. Although, that should be enough to never even entertain the option of eating here.
After we were seated, our server started strong...charming, fun, energetic, knew his menu...and never finished his job. I ordered the Belgian (Belgium on their menu) waffle with fresh fruit, walnut butter, fresh whipped cream and maple syrup---that whole menu description appears to be a bit difficult to handle for some.
The waffle arrived (chewy not crispy) and missing half the menu description. Despite asking for them twice, I never received my fresh whiped cream or walnut butter. I got 50% of my meal (there's a syrup bottle on every table). So essentially I had a chewy waffle with three slices of one fresh strawberry, three blackberries and a half dozen blueberries. The waiter did bring me a blob of orange pulp (I have no idea why) and some margarine--not really even close to walnut butter. My waffle was cold by then so there was no point anyway.
The mimosa was absolutely average. Maybe that was what the blob of orange pulp was for? Dunno.
Regardless, it was a big MEH. There seems to be better choices within walking distance, the majority having soap in...

I had such a great meal here. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, perfect for a weekend brunch with family. I ordered the mushroom omelet with crispy breakfast potatoes and toast, and everything tasted fresh and homemade. The potatoes were golden and perfectly seasoned, and the omelet was packed with mushrooms and herbs, with just the right amount of cheese.
I also tried their iced coffee, which was rich, smooth, and hit the spot on a warm day. You can tell they care about the little details, from the house-made jam to the fluffy pancakes that my kid loved (he devoured them in minutes).
The presentation was beautiful, and the portions were generous without being overwhelming. Service was fast and everyone was super friendly. We also tried the eggs benedict with smoked salmon, and it was honestly one of the best I’ve had, with a perfectly poached egg and tangy hollandaise.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious brunch in a casual setting. Can’t wait to come back!

Read moreVisiting home from Los Angeles for Thanksgiving break and even though I went to high school in Solana Beach, this is my first time visiting Sunny Side. It’s located right on the 101 on the west side of the street and there is ample parking all around which is a nice change for me. Our server was very polite and all of our items came out very quickly. They have a lot of outdoor seating, but we chose to sit indoors for our meal. I’m giving it a four out of five because everything was good but not great.
They have a fairly small menu, but it does have a lot of great options on it. For my first visit, I chose the Short Rib Benedict and thought it had some good flavors but the short ribs were lukewarm and wish they would have been a bit crispy or hotter. I get this often back up in LA and this version wasn’t as good as some that I’ve had recently. I would say it’s a great spot to eat and we didn’t have to wait at all for our Saturday morning brunch so I would suggest if you are in the area and I plan to give it another try again sometime soon because my family...
