HopMonk Tavern Sonoma — Restaurant in Sonoma

Forgettable food, definitely wouldn't go back. I've posted very few negative reviews, but the food was so consistently so so, that it's deserved. The HopMonk IPA I had was good. We ordered the Cauliflower appetizer the server recommended, but it never showed up even though we ordered it 15 minutes before the rest of our food - the server recognized it when we pointed it out after the rest of our food showed up and he made sure it didn't show on the bill. I ordered a burger cooked medium with pickle fries and my wife ordered the tacos (2 fish and 2 pork). The burger was very overcooked (extremely well done) but was still a reasonable tasting burger. The pickle fries were almost entirely breading. The tacos unfortunately were not good - the fish was almost entirely breading and very overcooked and the pork had a number of small bones along with a lot of grizzle. Normally, we might have said something and let the restaurant attempt to fix the issue, however, given everything was mediocre, it didn't seem worthwhile. The server, while nice, never offered to refill our drinks and the service was slow. Perhaps we got a bad night and all the food we ordered wasn't representative of typical quality, I hope that's the case, but we definitely wouldn't spend our dollars and time on a...

Went here with my gf per a recommendation. Food was really quite good, however this is the worst service I have gotten in as long as I can remember and definitely the worst ever I ever had in cali. We waited for a few minutes for the hostess which was missing which wasn’t a big deal but once we were seated there was 5-10 minutes with no one checking on us. I finally grabbed someone and they said they’d get someone. Then it was a few more minutes and she finally took our drinks. Then a no show for a while and I again had to ask someone to get out waitress because she never came back. Finally ordered food after being there 25 minutes or. Then we did finally get food which was very tasty. But the waitress never came back over to see how the food was or anything. Overall horrible service experience which is a shame since the food was good. I was between 2/3 stars and went with 2 because the service was so bad. That being said if you’re not in a rush and don’t care about that part the food was good. I will not be returning because service is a huge part of the experience and I’m sure lots of places in the area have good food. I would not be recommending this establishment...

I have been an occasional customer here throughout the last decade.

I have had great experiences in the past, but in the last year I have kinda written off some of the poorer experiences due to assuming that they were just outliers. I can say with confidence now however, that the service here has CONSISTENTLY declined in the last year.

It takes longer than ever to get waited on. The food will be passed to the table and the waiter/waitress will never ask the simple question, “Do you need anything else?”. Four visits consecutively we have had to wait longer to either hunt down an employee for aioli, ketchup, ranch, etc or have had to find it ourselves, all while our hot food still awaits. Also, the artichoke and cauliflower should come with their respective dips/sauce in the first place. Water refills are slacking. Beer pours are inconsistent. Portions are also inconsistent each time I visit. There seems to be some serious disorganization, or maybe it’s neglect.

Keep in mind all of this is happening while PRICES are still INCREASING.
