I feel really bad, the staff was super nice and friendly, but the flavor just wasn't there. Ordered the titular dish, the molcajete, and was initially impressed with the serving size and variety of meat, but there was nothing to tie it all together, no sauce or seasoning making it one dish. It was as if each ingredient was cooked separately on the grill and then thrown into the stone bowl.
The homemade chorizo was great! The quality of the rest of the ingredients left a lot to be desired... the cactus was good, one was cut thinly and cooked perfectly, the other was super thick and raw in the middle. Shrimp was tender, but very fishy tasting meaning it's not fresh. The steak was cooked to perfection, but it had so much globby fat and stringy connective tissue that it wasn't good to eat. Chicken was pressed super thin and overcooked to stringy texture and dry in the middle. Everything was huge and had to be transferred to a plate to chop up so that it would fit in a tortilla.
Please cut your ingredients into strips to fit into a tortilla, ideally all the same thickness so that they cook at the same rate. Trim your fat and gristle off and throw it into the meat grinder or render it to tallow. Please use some kind of cilantro-lime-tomato sauce to tie it all together. Please serve it with the stone hot so that I know that it was cooked in the stone bowel. This could be great, just takes a little more...
Read moreThis is a lovely local Mexican restaurant that serves high quality food at some of the lowest prices I've seen at any other Mexican places in the area. The seating starts out from the entrance with an aisle containing booths which pleased both my wife and I since we prefer booths, but there are also table options in the back of the restaurant. The wait staff was incredibly attentive and respected our privacy while keeping drinks full. My wife and I ordered water for drinks and split a fajita dish causing the bill to end up at $13. It was plenty of food at a great value. I didn't give a 15-20% tip in this case since the bill was so low and the waitress went above and beyond from what I would expect from a casual dining experience. Overall, I highly recommend this place! Please tip relative to the cost of your bill if it is low. Had I tipped based on percentage of bill alone it would have been a mere $1.65. Since I only had to pay $13 for a great meal for two I left a $5 on the table. Please try this place out at...
Read moreDefinitely a gem! Walked in and was immediately seated by the sweetest lady with a fantastic smile. She brought out my drink and a basket of chips with salsa. For those who may be very sensitive to spice there is a little kick to it but it is delicious.
I ordered the lunch steak quesadilla and two campechanos tacos. I like how they have the old school window area where you can see the person cooking your food. The sound of the grill sizzling was making me even more hungry.
Everything was hot, fresh and delicious. I was very impressed of their pricing give me today's landscape for local restaurants and the amount of food they gave for the price.
This is a place I will be visiting more regularly while I'm in the area. Plenty of other items on this menu that I want to try! And with the level of service I may just come back...
