Tropical Smoothie Cafe — Restaurant in South Padre Island

Was searching for a healthy alternative here on the island and found this gem. Came back two days in a row. Smoothies are made fresh and you have the options to add a variety of proteins , collagen, and oats . The options are endless. I love that they use good quality collagen not some bottom of the barrel stuff. We ordered the breakfast wraps and they were delicious. I don’t agree with the amount of plastic that was given. For four smoothies- I received 4 plastic cups and 4 plastic straws . The cashier didn’t mention that we had the option to buy the lime straws . We only knew about once we read the sign. As a place on the island near the ocean ,plastic should be given minimally or not given at all. Maybe wrap the wraps in a brown paper bag , completely eliminate plastic straws, and don’t give out plastic bags. There are options of paper straws and glass cups for smoothies . I would return for the food but would love to see alternative options for plastic...

SPI: Best store!!! I’m vacationing here from DFW and tried to use my app to preorder for pickup. I arrived at drive thru and they didn’t have my order. I went inside to show the girl my phone order on the app, and it was MY user error: I hadn’t completed the transaction. Not only was she super sweet about my goof, but she gave me a free smoothie coupon for the trouble!!! That’s what I call stellar customer service!!! And my smoothie was so delicious!!!!! Perfect 5 star experience!!!

Backstory: Last summer I was here on my annual trip with BFF. She suggested we go here, and I had never had a smoothie. OMG: I bc obsessed immediately with the Bahama Mama and got one nearly daily our entire trip! When I returned to Plano, I haven’t found a store that tastes as good as the SPI store’s smoothie. Is it bc I’m on the beach that they blow up my tastebuds? Or is SPI simply the best store??? Regardless, it is a dietary staple while I’m here....

Waited 40 minutes for my brother’s simple sandwich and chips order to find out that the cashier marked the wrong name, chips, and marked it as a wrap instead of sandwich (in other words completely wrong order). He was really nice in explaining their mistake after he waited so long and then proceeded to wait another 15 minutes for them to correct it- they clearly pushed it to the end of their list instead of expediting it since it was their mistake. Everyone else in the family was already done eating and had been there for over an hour. When he again asked about the status of his order, they flung the bag at him and it slapped on the counter. FLUNG it. He’s military and came to SPI before he goes oversees and the lack of attention to detail is sad along with the bad attitude that last woman took. No other Tropical smoothie has treated us this way....
