I wanted to begin this review by saying, this was the first time my partner and I stayed at this hotel and this WILL be our last time.
To begin, we booked our stay with Travelocity, which communicated to us we could check in until 3am to keep our booking. So, we took our time since we drove 10 hours to get here. We arrived around 10pm and the first thing the front desk man said was asking if we had a booking under a different last name. We replied with our last name and he told us abruptly that he had no booking under our name. Not to mention, upon arrival a guest came up to the desk and complained about seeing many roaches in his room and the man at the desk did not even seem phased. Then, I showed my Travelocity reservation and he immediately shut us down saying his manager already canceled the booking since we didn’t arrive by like 6pm. He did not even try to see if there was any rooms available. We got the impression he did not care if we stayed there or not. We finally asked if we could book and he found us a room, However, the room ended up being a room from a sanitary hell!
The room we received had a king size bed, couch, one tv, crappy coffee machine , and mini fridge, the usual. Same room we booked. After looking over the room I found a ton of long black hair on the pillows and inside the bed on the sheets. Even worse, there were fresh makeup stains on the pillows. I realized they had not been cleaned since the last guest. I checked the bathroom and the bathtub featured sand, hair and fresh soap scum. I was disgusted and went to try to call the front desk to at least get it cleaned, and the phone did not work. :( Imagine my frustration with these events back to back.
After speaking with the same man at the front desk we did get a new room and it appeared to be cleaner but not clean. It was manageable and we ended up having to get Clorox wipes, magic eraser and Lysol spray to clean to feel more comfortable. The rest of our stay we had to have maintenance snake our bathtub drain and sink drain, they were not draining. After the maintenance snaked the bathtub drain it still did not drain, there was a weird pocket in the bathtub that held the water, obviously an old bathtub with a terrible design. We had to sweep the water in the drain with our feet the entire time. Additionally, the water pressure was so bad we had to use plastic cups to help rinse ourselves properly.
The location in South Padre was okay, It was near the beach but, you had to walk down a long concrete walled up path which would have been hell without a beach cart to bring your stuff.
The breakfast was okay as well, mostly each day offered, watered down coffee, watered down orange juice, milky eggs, sausage links or microwave bacon, biscuits, assorted breads, older fruit, kids cereal, unflavored oatmeal, and Texas shaped waffle that stuck to iron even with the prep spray. It was edible but not amazing. It was better than expected after our service and room issues. We expected roaches in the eggs.
The pool was small but they did seem to try to clean it most everyday. The hot tub seemed to be hotter than legal. You could not put a full foot in without wincing immediately. We were not able to get in the hot tub and we even have one at home!
Lastly, internet was out the entirety of the stay and was not mentioned beforehand. When we called to ask the front desk about it we received laughter. We were told they had no idea when it would be back up. If you needed anything done, you had to ask the manager , a lady with a bun only there in the mornings.
All in all if you stay here, you will have to make the most of...
Read moreHorrible Experience at Comfort Suites Beachside, South Padre Island – Stay Away from Choice Hotels
I recently took a trip with my family over Labor Day weekend to South Padre Island, and what should have been a fun, relaxing getaway turned into an absolute nightmare due to our stay at Comfort Suites Beachside* (912 Padre Blvd., South Padre Island, TX 78597). I cannot stress enough how disappointed and upset we were with this hotel and Choice Hotel Reservations. This experience was beyond unacceptable.
Our group consisted of six people: my husband, our young son, my nephew Terry, his wife Bria, and their little girl. Bria has a medical condition called POTS, which requires frequent stops during travel, so the trip took a little longer than expected. When we finally arrived, we just wanted to check in, drop our bags, grab some food, and settle in for the night. Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse as soon as we returned to the room.
Around 7:30 p.m., we realized the carpet in our room was soaking wet, and the air reeked of mildew. It was obvious the room had not been properly maintained. We immediately called the front desk to report the issue, and they sent someone to confirm the condition. The hotel offered to move us to another room, which we accepted—only to find that this new room had the exact same problem. The carpets were wet, and to make matters worse, there was mold on the window curtains.
Once again, we called the front desk, and once again, they confirmed the room’s condition. This time, my husband and nephew checked a third room themselves before agreeing to move, and yet again, the conditions were just as bad—wet carpets, mold, and that horrible musty smell. By this point, it was around 10 p.m., and we were faced with a terrible choice: sleep in a room with mold, mildew, and soaked carpets or try to find a new place to stay at that late hour with two small children.
The on-site manager refused to call her supervisor to authorize any alternative solutions, like splitting us into two smaller rooms. So, we tried calling Choice Hotels, only to be met with another dead end. They told us to file a complaint, but offered no immediate help or compensation. We were essentially left stranded. In the end, we had no choice but to pack up our things and search for another hotel close to midnight.
The level of discontent, frustration, and sheer inconvenience we experienced cannot be put into words. It was one of the worst travel experiences I’ve ever had, and it’s clear that neither Comfort Suites* nor Choice Hotels care about their customers' well-being.
The conditions we were subjected to were appalling, and it’s unfathomable that a company like Choice Hotels would partner with a property in such disrepair. The entire situation was not only uncomfortable, but deeply embarrassing and upsetting for all of us—especially considering we paid good money for what should have been a relaxing stay.
If you value your health, comfort, and peace of mind, avoid Comfort Suites Beachside* at all costs. We will never be booking with Choice Hotels again, and I urge anyone considering it to think twice. This was a disaster from start to finish, and the lack of accountability from both the hotel and Choice Hotels is beyond disheartening.
Buyer beware! Do not waste your time or money. We certainly won't be making that...
Read moreTHEY HAVE ROACHES
Well, I guess since they are either deleting my review but I am going to leave it on all platforms. Please. Whatever you do, stay away from this property, the only good thing I have to say is a little young gentleman named Vincent that works at the front desk. The 18-year-old has amazing customer service. But the manager Desiree absolutely needs to be fire and extremely unprofessional. I came in on March 21st, which was really the 22nd I built the reservation last minute because we were arriving from Las Vegas and I wasn't aware that I couldn't check into my hotel whenever I got there because in Vegas of course you can do that. So I already had a reservation at another hotel. We just needed a couple of hours. So my children can rest comfortably and safely for about 7 hours. I arrive to the facility at 6 AM on Saturday morning. I had let the property know that even though I booked it for Friday the 21st I would not be arriving into the wee hours of the morning they allowed me to check-in okay. Once I got up to the room you guys, the smell that came out of the room could have killed you. It was so horrific that me and my children wouldn't slept in the car until the manager arrived before that day. There was a small baby house roach, not a Cricket, not a water bug, but an actual nasty cockroach. Crawling across the bathroom countertop. The manager didn't even come in until 11:30. She approached me. We were sleeping in a vehicle before she tried to make excuses. She admitted that she did go up to the room and the room smelt horrible for she tried to blame it on mildew, or something getting spilt in a room. Either way, you shouldn't have rented the room. If you knew it was but bad room, you guys took $200 for me. And we ended up happening to sleep in our car. Then she gonna tell me she tried to look for the roach. Well, naturally, once I screamed yelled and jumped out of the roach is going to take off running. So she came outside after telling me all her personal business about how many baby daddies and kids she got she then told me that she didn't know about how much credit she would give, but that she would do something and for me to make sure that priceline gave me back my money well after. Discussing with price line. Not only does she not give me credit. She didn't turn around and lied. And said, we have been in the room since twelve o'clock. The day before, which can easily be proven.I didn't even make the reservation until 11 o'clock at night. She didn't return any of my phone calls. So now I'm going to have to take this to corporate office, because if she thinks it's okay to get over on people and put them in a nasty hotel room without any compensations. She got the wrong one. Whatever you do, do not go to this property at all. It was bad enough that they priced gougers. For $200 noring, that room aint worth no more than 40 or 50 bucks because it was spring break. But to deliberately still charge me, knowing you knew we slept in the car. Ridiculous, but I am that one customer. They will continually contact corporate. And I am going to leave this review on all platforms. Because that is not how you do people. And what's sad? Is she got some good people working there? So this is not a reflect on their customer service. This is directly...
