Incredible & Awesome!! Had this style of Sushi & habachi in Colorado Springs and Asahi was heads and tails above the restaurant in Colorado and we thought that had been good!! Now, keep in mind the plates are smaller portions so you can sample a amazing variety of dishes and I recommend you do just that as I can truly say there wasn't a single dish I was disappointed with. For 6 people, each person could not stop singing high praises for the food and staff!!! I had the miso soup to start with, along with the dumplings, Kani salad and seaweed salad. Truly Wonderful!! Then had the Monster specialty roll and General Tsao chicken, just fabulous!! Next time around, 2 orders of the Kani salad as it was that good the first time. Also I saw the Volcano specialty roll last time around so gave it a try as it is spicier. I was not disappointed. Now, don't be afraid of the spice as it is flavor not heat but it is delicious just as was the Monster specialty roll. I added siarracha for the heat I like!! Yummy!! This time around I had another order of General Tsao chicken, as good as the first!! Added siarracha again for my heat level. Also note, the fried rice with the dish is very good and yes, again siarracha. Now mind you, I practice a Ketogenic diet/lifestyle with intermittent fasting, so I only eat once a day and I ate this food knowing it would blow my carb load out of the water!! However, I choose when to go off diet and eat carbs and this is one of those times it was well worth it!!! Now, as I said, I eat once a day so in I went for round 3!! This time 2 orders of Kani Salad, yes it is that good!! Dumplings again, along with the Volcano Specialty Roll again and this time an order of the Scallops with vegetables. I will tell you the 3 large, perfectly seared, browned, flavorful scallops with the zucchini in the brown sauce was probably the perfect ending to a truly wonderful meal celebrating our return of two children from the US NAVAL ACADEMY (freshman son and sophomore daughter) and the oldest son who just graduated from the US AIR FORCE ACADEMY and last week graduated from his INITIAL FLIGHT TRAINING PROGRAM where he passed his FIRST SOLO FLIGHT and CHECK RIDE!! (Sorry, proud Dad moment, now to see if the last daughter joins our FAMILY legacy of service to our great nation as I served for 31 years with the US AIR FORCE) Now, as you can expect, with a specialty food and all you can eat it is a bit expensive. But the Groupon coupon helps a bit. They also rolled in a 15% gratuity on the meal but it was fine as they earned and were so very pleasant and attentive. In the end we paid about $137 for everything. We didn't order alcohol and I can't even tell you if they serve alcohol.
BOTTOMLINE, they earned every STAR!! GIVE IT A TRY!! And yes, we will be back, even considering the 1.5 hour drive each way to the restaurant!! All agreed it is worth the trip!! Next time I will add photos of my...
Read moreAtmosphere: Nice hibachi steakhouse interior, but no music and as such all conversations and screaming babies could be heard.
Cost: All you can eat dinners are a flat rate of $20 and some change each. Green Tea was $2.50
Service: The waitress was nice but neglected to bring us plates for our appetizers. When we asked for plates they came with the dinner entrees and we no longer needed them.
Experience: The table was preemptively set with order forms to select which appetizers, sushi, salads, entrees, and quantities each customer desired. We placed our orders and our appetizers were brought to us immediately, but unfortunately only the serving plates were brought. However, that was the least of our concerns.
The following is a list of some stream of consciousness thoughts: "Yakitori isn't supposed to taste like that." "Tatsutaage isn't supposed to taste like that." "The gyoza is okay." "The shumai is okay." "They brought us a small sauce plate with sweetened ketchup in lieu of hoishin sauce for some reason." "Well, now we get our appetizer plates" (as they bring us out our dinner entrees) "I guess the Tempura vegetables are okay, but man are all of the meats way too salty."
You are probably better off sticking with the Chinese dishes here, but know they are mostly Americanized/General Tso-ified. I have definitely had better Chinese elsewhere.
Japanese-wise, there are definitely some authentic places within the city (such as Kiku in Station Square, Teppanyaki Kyoto in Highland Park, and Chaya in Squirrel Hill), but outside of Pittsburgh it is very difficult to find legitimate Japanese cuisine that tastes like it is supposed to.
Well, at least the beer is legit. Probably...
I didn't order sushi as I usually avoid it in landlocked areas as it is dangerous at worst and mushy at best. Sushi fish typically need to be flash frozen with a medical grade freezer to kill parasites and to avoid becoming mushy from forming ice molecules. Furthermore, it has to be frozen fresh to minimize the introduction of bacteria that can survive freezing. So stick with cooked fish if you aren't...
Read moreWe were originally going to go to the Chinese Buffet a bit away from here, but instead decided to try this place, as it came highly recommended. The food was good. The people, however, were not. After having been short and rude for our entire dining experience, when it came time to pay our bill, a $47 tab, between two people, we were going to do about a twenty five percent tip, so about sixty some odd bucks. I handed her my card, and she walked away, came back LITERALLY 30 SECONDS LATER, and she not working, declined. I get direct deposit payed on Tuesdays. I know it should work, but she over heard us talking about having cash to tip. She legit lied to our faces about my card being ran, and if it was declined or RAN AT ALL, I would get a text. Nothing. So we payed in cash, no big deal. Then she comes back and I understand times are tough, for business and patrons alike, but she rounded up and gave us back no change. Then stood there waiting for her tip. No thank you. No please come again or asking how our food was. Just rude, lying, thieving tactics that were not necessary. We would have gladly paid in all pennies if they had asked. I can overlook a rude server or even bad food. People have bad days. But telling someone who is struggling like everyone else, yet still tries to support local business that their account is empty is a bridge too far. One you do not cross. Yes, we still tipped her. Well even. But I will never patronize this place again, and you shouldn't either if you read this. Short of an explanation and an apology from ownership, my mind is...
