Star Deli — Restaurant in Southfield

Ordered a tray for break fast. Not a good food experience. The ordering and pick up went fairly easy. The actual tray failed mine and my guest expectations. The lettuce that covered the tray was wilted and dark green. The chicken salad and tuna salad had been so processed, there was hardly any texture….flavor was minimal, the aluminum trays were stuffed with lettuce halfway to the top. my guests were very kind but I noticed they hardly ate any of it. It’s because it wasn’t good. The sliced vegetables cheese and pickles were fine. We were not happy with the tray in general and when I returned the physical tray today, i let them know that I would no longer be ordering trays from Star Deli. The general manager was upset and said how can we make this better . I wasn’t looking for any sort of financial return. Just wanted them to know that their quality is lacking. The general manager called the daughter of the owner to come and talk to me. She stood there with her eyes, bewildered and curious and when I told her my Dissatisfaction she said “oh OK. Well, nobody else called to complain…. So…. Sorry you feel that way” 😳

Bye bye Star Deli…. Hoping this granddaughter doesn’t someday own the deli, because she has absolutely no concern for...

Happened to be driving down 12 Mile Rd. and noticed star deli. I was so excited to have noticed them because I used to come here all the time and the pastrami sandwiches were great. I walked in to order a couple of sandwiches and there were probably about five people working behind the counter. No one acknowledged me. I hadn’t been there in a while and I wasn’t even sure where to place my order or what side of the counter to order on. I stood there looking at the menu waiting for them to ask if I needed any help and during that time several customers whom they were familiar with walked in, they immediately acknowledged them, grabbed their orders and sent them on their way while all along I was just standing there. Every single person behind the counter looked at me at least once and never asked if I needed any help. I thought it was very odd and unwelcoming so I left. What a shame! I guess they have too much business and they don’t...

Time for a new deli -

I have been going to Star Deli for over 40 years still a great deli but the personality is gone - Unfortunately Sid's granddaughter now runs it and somehow she has taken the great personalities of Harry and Sid and replaced them with just the converse - just an abrasive experience. It became less pleasant a year or two before COVID but now it's nearly unbearable.

Even after the Michigan Governor removed all COVID restrictions last week Star has added more "mask required" signs everywhere and they yell at you even if you take your mask down to unlock your phone with Face-ID - they did it to me. It's just too abrasive now and no longer enjoyable to order from them. As a physician their actions are quite extreme.

So yes it's personal choice but it is just no fun going in there anymore and that was a great part of it - just bs'ing with Harry and Sid for the past 40 years.
