As a Texan, I thought I knew BBQ. But let me tell you, Pig Rig BBQ in Southington, CT, completely blew me away and touched my soul in ways no other BBQ ever has. I’m talking about the kind of food that makes you sit back, close your eyes, and savor every single bite like it’s a piece of heaven on earth.
The ribs? Oh my goodness, they’re perfection. Tender, smoky, and fall-off-the-bone goodness that made me feel like I was back home in Texas, but better. The flavor is so rich and deep, it’s like they’ve been slow-cooked for hours, absorbing every inch of that smoky love. And then there’s the smoked mac and cheese—a dish so creamy and decadent it’ll make you want to skip everything else just to eat that. The smoke adds an unexpected twist that just works, and trust me, you’ll be thinking about it long after the meal is over.
But don’t even think about leaving without trying the cornbread. It’s soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet with a touch of savory that brings everything together. It’s the kind of cornbread that will make you feel like you're sitting on the front porch with a cold drink in hand, soaking up the best that life has to offer.
Pig Rig BBQ isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. It’s the kind of BBQ that reminds you why you love food, why you love life. I can say, without hesitation, this is hands-down the best BBQ I’ve ever had. If you haven’t been yet, do yourself a favor and get there—your soul...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for lunch almost everyday since these cats opened and I’m yet to be disappointed. Great consistency across both locations, I stopped by Wallingford location a few times and that’s how I knew this would be my new lunch spot.
I typically go for the brisket platter with the smoked mac, and it is delicious. Yes, the brisket is chopped but it’s just a beautiful mix of all the flavors you get in eating sliced beef. And if you want sliced beef they have burnt ends! They’re fantastic but for me it’s the same flavor for a smaller price point.
Staff is super friendly and the young man who’s there in the mornings always recognizes me and has my order ready quickly. Any questions I have about smoking or the food, he’s got an answer. They recently added a young lady as well who’s extremely pleasant.
Needless to say this is the place to be if it’s lunch time and you’re...
Read moreThis was without a doubt the worst brisket sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I have had BBQ all over the state of CT and in a handful of others. I was skeptical when I walked in during prime dinner hours and didn’t see any customers, but the place is fairly new so I gave them the benefit of the doubt.
First of all, the standard for a brisket sandwich is sliced brisket. Should be moist, tender, and have a good Smokey taste. The sandwich that I got (and paid about $15 for) was some type of shredded beef that was very dry and had an interesting flavor. Based on the way it was prepared and the texture of the meat, I couldn’t even be certain it was brisket to be honest. On the way out I double checked the menu to see if it said anything about chopped or shredded brisket. It did not. Pig Rig BBQ will have to prove that they can do better to get my...
