Went in for a breakfast sandwich on a bagel. 1 egg, cheese and maybe 2 slices of bacon and with a small coffee (not good coffee) was $7.50. The breakfast sandwich was fine, would have expected more bacon given the price, but all in all a decent breakfast sandwich on a nice bagel. Then I asked the guy what was his favorite sandwich as I wanted to bring one to work for lunch. The Sammie was his recommendation which is chicken cutlet with bacon, roasted red pepper and mozzarella and Peter Lugar sauce. I asked what kind of bread it comes on and he said he does it on a round roll but he could put it on a sub roll or bagel or anything I wanted, so I said sub roll. He also gave me a taste of the chicken salad which tasted great, but looked "not fresh". Saw him making the Sammie with care, but when I got charged $14.50 for sandwich and a small bag of chips ($2.50), I was surprised because I saw "signature sandwiches" were $8.99 up on the board. Manager (super nice) pointed to the small print on the side that said extra $2.50 for sub roll and $1 for wrap....I guess that was my bad. When I got to work I dug in...Decent flavors and good bread and would have been a really good sandwich (and nice sized even for $12) but the chicken cutlet was dry and hard like a puck (see dark hard cut through chicken in photo, supposed to be white meat....). the cutlet should have been thrown out rather than used for a sandwich. It's a shame because I remember Augie's being so great a few years ago....I imagine this was just a one time thing and they are more careful about quality control...I saw them hand slicing deli meat and prepping for the lunch push with care. I love to support a local place like this and will likely be back to give...
Read moreI really hate do this because the people are so friendly they make you feel right at home when right when you walk in up until you leave... the food is decent with a charming atmosphere, but they need to figure out a new system when it comes to getting people their food in time, If I didn't live on the same street I would never come here but it's so convenient that sometimes I find myself there more often than I'd like to be, Unfortunately it becomes inconvenient, the bagels are great the sandwiches and meat are as well (depending on who made it) Problem is still have 4 people in the back one person cooking 1 person ringing you up and 2 people standing there, The other day I called in in order and they told me to come in 30 minutes I showed up in 30 minutes and I waited there for another 30 minutes, where in the state In NJ does it take an hour to make a breakfast sandwich... I figured they were busy but when I got there there were 3 customers waiting, the fry cook was busy messing up orders, one lady was ringing people up, and another lady was just standing around, and the manager was walking around in circles on a road to an endless nowhere, they need a new...
Read moreDespite the many varied reviews I decided to go here as it was the closest to my jobsite. ON THE POSITIVE SIDE: everything is made fresh daily. My order was correct. Bagel was nicely toasted. Eggs were tasty, the bacon crisp and I got the correct cheese I ordered. For just over $8- for a breakfast sandwich and a coffee they're average priced. As a born and bread New Yorker, that has grown up on the best bagels in the world, this place falls short on its "Brooklyn" name. Bagels are about 75% the size of what any Brooklyn person knows what a bagel should be. Bacon quantity was on the lesser side of the average for the area considering I ordered extra bacon. I do not recommend the coffee here, not only is the taste subpar (watered down like tea) but the cups suck. WARNING the tops do not fit the cups securely and come off way to easily in a vehicle. The cups are cheap and deform easily. It's just not good. They need to change their coffee supplier. I had a few sips chucked it and drove to get coffee at Dunkin which is not great IMO but at least better. This place would go under in Brooklyn. It's a once and...
