Ok the most important part of the review: Eat here. The food and drinks are phenomenal. Pros and cons below.
The Pros:
The food is creative and delicious. Some of the best breakfast/brunch food in the city, by far. Can't wait to try other things on the menu!
Filling portions and chill atmosphere. You won't feel under dressed if you are slumming it on a day off for the glorious brisket hash.
Good drinks.(I only had the alcoholic ones. I'm sure the others are on par with them.)
Quality ingredients translates into happy stomach.
The food is so good you actually want to take what you don't eat home and eat the rest of it like a shameful goblin. Just do yourself a favor and reheat it in a pan or oven at 350. Do not microwave it. You made the good decision to eat here, don't mess that up by making a bad one and microwaving those delicious left overs.
The staff was friendly and prompt. My food hit my table within seconds of being done, steaming hot, already sipping my mimosa.
Neither Pro Nor Con, just fair wages for hospitality staff note:
Every bill does include a 16% service fee to ensure everyone is getting paid a livable wage. I highly recommend you add another 20% for the server as they are great at what they do here. Support places that pay their staff a livable wage. If you can't afford to tip stop eating out. With a drink each and two orders of the most expensive item (the delicious brisket hash. Highly recommend. Only $16) and the service fee with tax came out to 62.50, don't hesitate to leave another 10-15 for the server. They split that service fee with back of house. The price is worth what you get in return. I'd pay $20-$25 for the brisket hash in another city and it probably would taste worse. Don't complain about people needing to pay their bills too, no one made you not know how to cook yourself delicious breakfast at home, so eat the food, drink the drinks, pretend you don't even see a service fee and tip accordingly. The nap you'll have after this insanely good food will help you forget.
The Cons:
Limited parking in back, so if it's a busy day you will have to fight for street parking or parking in the relatively small parking lot in back.
The kitchen is SMALL, they are clearly still able to bang out insanely good meals but I could see if you came on a busy day, you may wait a bit for the food while they do their thing. It is worth the wait honestly. 100% in every way worth it, just something that someone in a hurry should be aware of.
That is it, and honestly those are just things they literally can't do anything about. If they could I'm sure they would have a much larger kitchen and a massive parking lot. Unless you are in a hurry on a weekend or you cannot park in tight spaces (You know who you are) then go somewhere else, otherwise stop wasting time looking for somewhere to eat and just go here, you will not be disappointed. At all.
Did I mention the food is damn good?...
Read moreThis is a tough review for me to write. I really try not to say anything negative in a review. If I don't like something, then I figure others need to decide that on their own, and I don't ever want someone to read my review and decide not to try it because of something i wrote. My family and i are from Coeur d' Alene and came and stayed at the Davenport for a little Christmas family time. We googled places to have breakfast, and i found the Bruncheonette. I have to say I absolutely LOVED the food here, and I don't say that often. There are very few places I eat that I am ever as impressed as I was. I love the creatively and the twist on popular dishes. I had the chicken fried steak, while the steak was tougher than I would have liked it was the best one I've found in years. The potatoes were a nice change of pace with the sweet potatoes mixed in, and the eggs were cooked perfectly. My 11 year old had the biscuits and gravy. A little mix up as she ordered it with the country gravy but they sent it with the chorizo gravy but offered to replace the whole meal but we just asked to bring some country gravy and they brought a big bowl of it. My oldest ordered the blueberry pancakes. I am not a pancake eater. Typically, they are dry and just not for me, but I took a bite just to see what they tasted like, and I couldn't stop eating them. They were by far the best pancakes I've ever had. They use big fresh blueberries in them, and they are moist and delicious. After all of that and as happy as I was with the food, I will never be back. I handed my waitress my card without looking at my bill thinking I already knew the total but when she brought me back my card with my slip to sign there was an additional 8 bucks on there that I hadn't agreed too. A FORCED gratitudy. I didn't see any signs, and I didn't see anything on the menu saying anything about it. I am an above average tipper. My son and daughter work in the industry, so I understand tipping is necessary, and I typically tip 30 percent, or more depending on the service, but that's my choice to do. Not the restaurant I'm dining in. Perhaps if I was aware of it prior to seeing that slip, it may have changed my outlook on the situation, but that wasn't the case. It may seem trivial to some people reading this review, but it's not to me. It saddens me because I would have driven from coeur d'alene just to eat there. I would go back if they take the FORCED gratuity off and let customers make the decision on tipping, as it's not something that should be required. It should be a tip for good service, not a fee the restaurant imposes on their customers no matter...
Read moreI was excited to try this place, I was in town with my kids and also for work. One Saturday morning during a week‘s stay I came with my twins (leaving husband and other child back at the hotel). I really wanted to like this place, but there was a really strange stench in the air which my seven-year-old daughter noticed. We wanted to sit outside but there weren’t enough tables so no problem we just decided to deal with it. That isn’t even the reason for the rating honestly. The kids meals were large. One issue was that the bacon was peppered and for kids that may not go over so well. It was also quite soggy. Both kids wouldn’t touch the bacon. The pancakes were ok, I am sure they’re made with good ingredients, I liked them but for some reason my daughter wasn’t a fan. Tater tots seemed average. I ordered a French press coffee. I was excited about this because I love French press coffee as I happen to be in the coffee business. This is very rare to have this at a restaurant so obviously I was stoked to order. This is completely not their fault at all but they do not know how to do a French press. My thoughts on this are that if you’re going to offer this on the menu then at least know a tiny bit about coffee. The server put way too little actual coffee in the French press so no matter how long it brewing it was still light brown water. The purpose of the French press is to be able to control how long and how strong the coffee would be. This is very different from regular drip coffee. She argued with me saying that I didn’t order the correct roast. I just asked to exchange it for drip coffee then ended up getting coffee later on down the street. Again, just learn how to do a French press if you’re going to offer it in a restaurant.
Lastly, and this is my biggest complaint, they force a service charge on the bill that is separate from the tip you’re expected to leave. They claim that this is for the entire staff but then you’re expected to leave a tip on top of that which you end up leaving about 30 or 35% when all is said and done. I did leave a tip on top of that but I left feeling underwhelmed and disappointed in the whole experience and a lot more broke than when...
