If you need a place to crash for a few hours, this place may be ok. We booked it because the listing on the booking site had it as clean, with parking, free breakfast and a gym. Well, not so fast… The check-in lady was friendly enough. I didn’t catch her name though, but she had blue hair. Check-in was fast, though. When I asked about the breakfast, I was provided with a coupon for 1 person. I mentioned that we were 2 people, but she referred to the company policy: 1 breakfast coupon per room. This is some nonsense! You rent out rooms to 2-4 people and you give them 1 coupon for breakfast? That breakfast was being redeemable at the restaurant (Rosie’s) next door. It had a value of $6 towards each of their regular menu items, or it would “pay” for 3 items listed on the coupon. No coffee, no beverages included. The free parking was not so free after all. The place had about 15 parking spots available for hotel guests. That is far less than the number of rooms. They charge $5 per night per car, and they add tax to that. If you cannot find parking there or don’t want to pay for it, you have to find street parking, but from what we saw, that was also for a fee, at least Mondays through Saturdays. Sundays seem to offer free street parking. The gym was also a misconception. Hotel Ruby itself does not have a gym onsite. Instead they ask you to walk down the street to some gym that could be used. I am not sure if there is a fee involved though. The room itself was not too bad. It was small, but pretty clean, and it had a fridge and a microwave. Flooring reminded me of upgraded Motel 6 floors. The bathroom was nice. Bedding seems old and Motel 6 style. That 60/40 fabric that makes you sweat at night. The TV didn’t work, but the check-in lady came and fixed it for us within 15 minutes. The place had an elevator, and our room was on the first floor. However, it is worth noticing that even though one can get upstairs by elevator, there will still be 4 steps to be managed before actually being on the first floor. I didn’t check if the same applies for the rooms on the second floor. The ice machine downstairs was broken. It is located in the on-site laundry room. The morning check-in person was so kind to give us some ice from their office upon checkout. Before checking out and turning in the room key, we did walk over to the breakfast restaurant called Rosie’s. It was something like a Dennys, even though the layout was different. But unlike a Dennys where they have multiple servers, this place only had 1 person running the restaurant. She was a hard-working woman. Our food (we had the Rosie’s breakfast special) came out within 10 minutes and was not too bad. The night of our arrival, we had dinner in Spokane. We found a place called “Skewers” which came highly recommended and happened to be just 1 block from the hotel. Overall, I’d say this place is only for short-term stays. I would not recommend it for more than 1 night, and quite frankly, there might be other options available in town within the same...
Read moreWe first arrived and the receptionist was very kind and understanding so I must say that.
However, upon entering our room (#218) the conjoining room (#217) door was unlocked and did not have a mechanism to physically lock it. We barely tapped the other door and it immediately opened. There was a man on the other side who said, “Oh I was completely nude in here, that was flattering.”
As if he had been waiting for someone to tap on the door so he could do something to them. I immediately went down to the lobby and demanded a different room and explained what happened. Again, she was very kind. However, I was first told that there were no more rooms left. I was going to have to find a completely different hotel at 10:00 at night because there was absolutely no way I was going to be able to sleep KNOWING that room door didn’t lock properly next to some creep. What if it were young kids sleeping in that room we were provided and didn’t know how to assert themselves and something horrible happened?
She was able to contact her manager and they set us up in a room that didn’t have a conjoined door. Why was there all of a sudden a new room available after I threatened to just up and leave?
We finally were able to rest but that was so unsettling. The next morning on checkout I confronted the manager Zach who did not seem concerned at all. He had a demeanor that basically seemed as if he was blaming the situation on us. As if we were stupid on not understanding how the door worked.
I’m an intelligent grown woman, don’t treat me like that. I don’t usually give bad reviews either! But when I do, they deserve it. We went to the room that morning and he was saying that the doors lock internally and that either room has to open theirs each in order for them to be a joined room. Well guess what? The other person could have just put a simple piece of tape over the entry latch and there you go, no more lock.
An unsuspecting tired young woman or man or whoever would be none the wiser and could have easily been roofied. Add a damn $5 dollar swing bar lock on both sides. ITS NOT THAT HARD. So frustrating for how careless they were and essentially nonchalantly blaming us. I should have been given a full refund honestly.
Oh yes, there isn’t a lot of parking so expect to have to park in an unguarded fenced parking lot that is open at all hours a block away.
I’ll never stay here again. I was honestly debating on sleeping in my car if they didn’t magically have a safer...
Read moreFrom the rooms, the overall atmosphere and to the staff Hotel Ruby is a very high quality place. I'll be staying here if I ever need a room in Spokane again.
I got to Hotel Ruby at about 9PM on a Tuesday night. I'm not in spokane much and so their artistic coloring and signage stood out and made it much easier to locate their establishment in the busy Spokane downtown area. I pulled in and as i entered futher into their parking lot I could see the care and effort they put in to create something special for their guests. The front of the building is a very updated, artistic and clean lounge. Than as you enter their parking lot is bright and lit up with their decorative lighting. It felt very safe and felt like I was on a vacation.
I checked into my room and the front desk person was very nice. I was looking at a small map of the downtown Spokane area and he quickly offered me a much more detailed map, he explained parking, the breakfast, the location of my room and then asked if i'd be leaving tonight and could he help mark a few places on the map so it would be easier to find. I told him a store thrall sells chips and candy would be great and so he took the time to mark that for me.
When i first pulled in i was also a little worried about parking but the front desk person also addressed this. Basically the just of his explication was that although they are limited on parking if you need a spot and it's full then they have a sister property 2 blocks away and you can park there. I never had an issue and so was able to park at Hotel Ruby the entire time during my 2 night stay. However, had I needed to park at the alternate location it would still be just fine. It's 2 blocks and what can you expect in the downtown area of a city, parking is limited everywhere. Hotel Ruby is worth a 2 block walk of needed but again i was able to get parking in their main lot both nights.
On the property they have some very cool art, nice updated rooms and very nice tile bathrooms. They put a lot of money into how their units and property look and it shows. During my stay I had a minor maintenance issue and it was fixed quickly.
Overall great time at Hotel Ruby. Thank you to all the staff that work hard to keep everything so clean and thank you for caring about your customer service. Good luck...
