SAUCES NO LONGER PREPARED FRESH TO ORDER AT NEW SOUTH HILL ESTABLISHMENT. They are still using old menus which say that they are, but all sauces are now prepared in bulk ahead of time, which severely limits options for people who either can't eat or don't like fish sauce/shellfish additives. The menus really need to be updated to reflect that change, as it is quite misleading and deceptive--making people think they're getting a quality home-cooked type of meal when it's essentially just precooked cafeteria food slopped together on a plate.
It's also pretty shady that they still call themselves a vegetarian-friendly restaurant when there are actually only 6 vegetarian entrees to choose from. Senor Froggy's has FAR more vegetarian options, and most things actually are cooked fresh there, but they don't feel the need to tout themselves as a vegetarian-friendly restaurant (or need to lie about the freshness of the food).
I played it safe and just ordered dessert since, quite frankly, none of the veg options are very good. My brother ordered some noodle dish (which likely had fish or shellfish in it) and had a bad allergic reaction. Will not return.
Oh yeah, they also forgot to add the sesame seeds to the sticky rice and mango dessert I ordered, so I asked to have a few brought out in a little container-- no big deal. The waitress insisted on taking the entire dish back to remake it and I was like "no, I'm fine just sprinkling some on top of this one", as I'm quite bothered by food waste, but she insisted on doing things her way and snatched it away from me and made me wait another 5-10 minutes til the new one was brought out while the rest of my party ate their food.
Maybe that was her way of punishing me for being "too demanding" or something, not sure, but it was weird. Or maybe she wanted to spit in my food and knew that I would notice if she did it right in front of me, which is why she was so insistent and demanding on making a new one rather than just bringing out some sesame seeds as...
Read moreWhen this new location first opened, everything was great including food and service. We’re members and were frequenting this place regularly. However, our dining experience in November was awful. We waited a very long time before our order was taken, then had to remind the server about our drinks that we’ve been waiting on for at least 20 minutes… food took much longer,it must have been 45 minutes at least before we were served our food. I ordered my regular favorite D6 dinner combo, only to be absolutely disgusted by the Mongolian Beef. It was literally inedible, and tasted like someone soaked it in vinegar. They remade my order but it was still gross, just less vinegary. Our kids complained their Pad Thai was also terrible and had no flavor. We were very shocked at the drastic change in service and food quality.
We stopped going there for about 2 months because it was such an aversive experience. We tried again tonight and service was terrible again. The server came to take our drink orders, then left with our menus. We expected her to be back in 5 minutes or so but she did not show up for a while. We sent the kids to the hostess to request for menus again. We were left there sitting for 20 minutes waiting for our drinks and for our orders to be taken. Food was thankfully not awful this time but we did have to wait for nearly an hour for our food to be ready. The food was not as good as it used to be, but at least it was edible this time. The restaurant was half empty, they were not busy but server seemed to be unavailable and nowhere to be found unless she had to bring food out or hand us our $100+ bill. $100+ for our dinner with that level of service is cow dung level
VERY DISAPPOINTED. This place has gone downhill. Food quality is mediocre when it’s not inedible, and service is terrible now. It’s as if they can’t hire or train quality service...
Read moreAfter driving by this place for a long time, my wife and I decided to stop in during restaurant week. It was at the $ 18 level. My wife went with the spring rolls, red curry (3/5 hot), and black rice sticky pudding. I chose the crab rangoon, cashew chicken (3/5 hot), and fried bananas!
Our server was Amy, who was awesome. She checked in with us enough, but not too much. She kept our drinks full and was very pleasant the entire time we were there!
Appetizers: the crab Rangoon was delicious! They are definitely worth trying. Spring roles were a little bland, but hey - that's what the delicious sauce is for. We probably wouldn't get them again though.
Entree: I'm not much for curry, but my wife said it was very good. The 3/5 heat was good. Spicy enough, but not too hot. My cashew chicken was really good. I like spicy, but I ordered 3/5 and added chilli paste to heat it up. I'd definitely recommend it!
Desert: the fried bananas were really good, drizzled with some carmel. It's basically a mini spring role filled with banana. Try them, you won't be disappointed! My wife loved the black sticky rice pudding. It had an oatmeal consistency, but tasted like a sweet vanilla pudding. It's also worth a try!
Overall: service was excellent and food was delicious. We will...
