Mood - Flavor
Any person that has tried authentic Jamaican food knows you will taste the flavor, the love, and the soul of the dish. This is something very hard to come by. As most entrees have to be simmered down to be enjoyed by the masses. Not to many people are familiar with seasonings and robust flavors. So most restaurants appease the areas they are in to be able to stay afloat and succeed in the restaurant business.
House of Dutch Pot most def did not follow the norm of society when it came to their style. Gosh I was amazed, happy, and very pleased with the food I ordered. It reminded me of being in New York and eating something that provided a wonderful and distant memory.
This restaurant is still considered to be in its new phase. I am assuming this by the way things were when I first arrived. However the snafus were worked out, and I was able to start ordering food. Opted of course for the Hibiscus Juice, Fruit Punch Juice, Fried Chicken, Curried Chicken, Bombastic House Salad, Garlic Breadsticks, Mac & Cheese, & Mac Salad. My highlight was that Hibiscus Juice ( I need this by the jug) and yes the fried chicken was on point. Everything was delightful. Just a few dishes stood out more than others to me.
As we were enjoying all of the robust alive flavors the owner comes over to greet us. I love a story. Especially when it has purpose. Starting from the East Coast in a garage, and making its way here. To the Foodie Paradise, this restaurant will surely hold its head above water and be able to compete with what Vegas has to offer. There are items currently listed on the menu that are not available. So if you are particularly looking for something, call ahead and find out if it is offered that day.
Interior is very colorful and nicely arranged. Several booth options, table and chair arrangements. Everything was very clean. Music was playing in the background while a couple of televisions adorned the wall. There are works of art on the walls that tell the owners story.
Would most def recommend - pricing in my opinion was fair. Portions were generous. Staff was hospitable and courteous. My table was taken care of. When you come in, def allow yourself to...
Read moreTLDR - bad customer service, mediocre food, and poor value for what you get. Edit: Added an image after I was out shopping and saw something months later. These guys literally buy their frozen patties at Dollar Tree. Since some reviews talk about how great the patties are(I thought they were just okay), you can just buy the same exact ones at Dollar Tree. I feel even more bamboozled now by all of these 5 star reviews.
I had some high hopes given the reviews here but got disappointed instead. I debated a bit about leaving a one-star review, but decided to do so after some thinking because I feel bamboozled by the five-star ratings here. It was about 1.5 hours before we got our food due to technology issues causing our orders to not get sent back to the kitchen. At least that's what we were told, but I think they just forgot about our orders and said that to make us feel better after we were sitting around forever with no main dishes after the appetizers. At first, we just assumed that the kitchen was backed up because every seat in the restaurant was filled, but after a while, it became obvious that something was up.
I've eaten Jamaican food at different places in Jamaica, which was some of the best food I've ever had. I was excited to find a highly rated spot like this to bring back good memories, and this wasn't even close. The jerk sauce tasted like straight up BBQ sauce, not the highly flavorful, spicy, and kissed with a touch of smoke flavor I've previously enjoyed. The patties were just okay, like frozen ones I've picked up before vs fresh made. The goat curry seemed like it was more bones than meat. We ordered other stuff that was all pretty underwhelming, except maybe the oxtail fries.
I don't mind paying for a good meal, patiently waiting for good food, or small portions of high quality/flavorful food. I do mind sitting around forever for nothing, which would have been solved by staff paying more attention. I'm also not thrilled about paying $40+ each for combo meals that fall short on every expectation a reasonable person would have, especially when getting multiple to try and share within our group. I'm honestly confused by the high rating...
Read moreI was disappointed with my experience. I have traveled and visited over 20 Caribbean restaurants as this is one of my favorite cuisines. The jerk chicken was not authentic jerk chicken, I chose the original sauce and I got sweet bbq chicken not jerk chicken. I was expecting the kick but it was sweetness. The mac and cheese was so dry, the cheese on top was dark brown, it wasn't cheesy and it had grated carrots which threw me off. The stuffing in the beef patty was good but not the patty itself, lacked seasoning. The rice and peas were also very dry. The oxtails were made in the same sauce as the jerk chicken, so they were very sweet. The plantains were hard, I do not think they were ripe enough to serve. For dessert we ordered the banana bread which was really good until I came across a cherry in it. Not sure why that was in it. The carrot cake was not great. We spent about $60 between 2 of us.
Customer service was ok. My friend asked for a side of chicken to go on a salad and the server said they do not chop up chicken or serve a side of chicken but they do. I ordered a 1/4 side of chicken. Also they chop the chicken for the tacos, so I am not sure why she said they only serve whole pieces or why she wouldn't go back and ask if the chicken from the tacos could be put on a salad. I ordered a small oxtail and 1/4 chicken and she told me to upgrade to the combo to save money, I declined and told her it would be $12 more to upgrade to the combo, there was no benefit as the portion sizes weren't much different.
I won't be back but it was an experience I had to try especially after seeing Guy there and it on my Instagram feed the...
