I am very sad to give this 1 star review. If I could give a -0 I would. I recently moved to Lancaster County (Mount Joy) and found this hidden gem. The food has always been fantastic, as well as, the service. There are plenty of Thai Restaurants in the Lancater area. But, I chose this place. But yesterday was just horrible. Starting with the very unattentive server (black guy with glasses)...I waited forever for him to take my order. Only when the male hostess went to the BOH and summoned him. I expected him to come out with the hostess, but he didn't. It was a few minutes later. I overheard the hostess tell the female hostess.."he was back there laying across the table." He took my order, shrimp dumpling soup and chicken w/eggplant level 4. He proceeded to talk and show pictures from his phone with a white male across from me (maybe owner/manager). He was not in uniform, but had a Viet Thai Cafe polo shirt. After a long time, he decided to get my soup. He dropped off my soup and never came back to do a food check until I was done. He asked how was the soup and I told him I love the broth here. Again, I waited and waited. The female server with the skirt brought my dish to him. She said something to him, but she made sure she was directly in front of him, so I couldn't read her lips. But, I had an idea what she said to him. I already knew the food was dead and cold. When he put the plate down, I took a bite of the dry chicken and it was cold and very salty. Again the terrible server NEVER came back to my table to do a food check. At that point, I asked the male hostess for a to go box and the rice and food is cold. He asked if he could heat it up for me and I declined. Because the server was ghost again..I went to the hostess desk to pay. I expressed to the server with the skirt how terrible the service and food was. She offered to have the dish made again. I declined. Out of nowhere the terrible server comes running up to the host desk trying to say something and I cut him off in mid sentence and let him know how horrible he is as a server. I recently retired after 47 years in the hospitality industry. Retiring as a Flight Attendant and Bartender/Trainer for Hilton Hotels. This horrible server represents your business. I would...
Read moreWasn't sure what to expect from our first visit to this strip center restaurant although it was highly recommended by several friends.
Thoughtful decor with splashes of color throughout this modern looking black, white and grey space made for a welcoming impression.
What really blew me away though was the food!
We went all out, ordering two appetizers and an entree apiece. Coconut crusted shrimp was crunchy outside and delectably tender on the inside. Served with a savory sauce with a subtle heat and hint of sweetness, they were so good that I hated to move on. It was worth it to try the overstuffed spring rolls which came in a delicately transparent wrapper filled with pork, shrimp, crisp greens and other goodies.. The spring rolls were on a par with the coconut shrimp regarding just how good they were!
Salmon in green curry sauce was moist and thoroughly enhanced by the flavor of the curry. I was a little surprised but I'll be back for more than a shared bite. The Mussaman curry with shrimp, root vegetables and peanuts was a symphony of flavors and textures. Instant favorite....
We were with a large group whose traditional pho, sushi, beef satay and other dishes were all pronounced superb. I would have liked to try everything I saw!
Despite the restaurant being packed during prime time on a Friday night our group presented no problem for the highly capable and apparently unflappable wait and kitchen staff. Our orders came promptly, were temperature appropriate and as already mentioned, were absolutely delicious! The staff were attentive, enthusiastic and helped make this a very memorable experience.
I regret not having more room to sample some of the more traditional Vietnamese dishes. The menu listed a respectable variety of Chinese favorites along with the Vietnamese and Thai offerings.
Save a corner for dessert if at all possible. The fried bananas with icecream and chocolate sauce was the table favorite tonight, for good reason.
Modest, fair prices, comfortable atmosphere, terrific staff and wonderful food will keep me coming back to Viet Thai Cafe as often as...
Read moreI am so disappointed. My family and I just moved to York and was at the Home Depot when we spotted Viet Thai. I went home and read all of the reviews and thought we would give Viet Thai Cafe a try since Thai Food is my absolute fav.
We will NEVER return!
When we arrived, we were told there was a 10 minute wait, ok not a problem. After about 15 minutes, two other couples who came in after us and was immediately seated. My husband advise the staff and they apologized and sat us at the last table in the back near the kitchen. Ok, not the best first impression but I am still anticipating my dinner.
To make a LONG story short. We ordered :
Thai Ice Tea -I really should not have, but whats Thai with out the ice tea ? The condense milk they used was very thick at the bottom, I've never experience any solid substance in my Thai ice tea in 15 years ! Tasted more like coffee and not thai ice tea :(
Kani Salad for our appetizer- Worst Kani Salad. Lacking flavor. Something was missing. Not what we were use to. Sadly, the salads arrived at the same time as our dinner when we ordered them as an app....hmmmm.
Hubby ordered sushi - He had to send it back! The rice was over cooked on both rolls, and the salmon was not smoked on the Philadelphia roll. Our waitress was nice and apologetic and offered to have it remade, hubby declined.
I ordered the Pad La Na and added shrimp. They forgot the shrimp. But what was more disappointing is that it didnt have any flavor. Very bland. Once the shrimp was added, it taste like shrimp from a frozen dinner entree ....eek !
Our daughter ordered egg roll and chicken w/ broccoli with fried rice.(They gave her white rice, but fixed it)
For the record, our daughter loved her egg roll, but didn't like her meal which is typical.
I was really disappointed that we didn't love this place. From "Forgetting" we were waiting to be seated" to the drinks, and bad sushi, bland Kani salad, mushy sushi rolls, using reg raw salmon and not smoked to the flavorless Pad La Na. We wont be returning. Everything else could have been looked over if the food was good.
Utterly...
