My family and I finished shopping at the Grove City Outlets and wanted to get some dinner before heading home. We were headed to another restaurant when we drove past Fat Eddy's and decided to give it a try instead. That was one of the worst dining decisions we've made in a LONG time.
We placed our names on the list and were informed it would be approximately a 10 minute wait. Almost 20 minutes later, a man who I presumed to be the manager approached us and asked if we are already on the list because 'there was a mix-up'. We provided our names again and were seated 5 minutes after that.
Our waitress, who seemed to be in training, took our drink order without writing it down and promptly forgot part of the order... As she was still standing at our table. Mind you, we ordered two glasses of water and two sodas, so it wasn't anything complicated.
She returned with the drinks and was ready to dash off to another table. We had to quickly inform her that we would like an order of the Fat Eddy's Fries. The fries looked great when they arrived, but we had no silverware or napkins at the table. It took 5 minutes for our waitress to bring those, and she was about to leave after setting those down. We had to stop her to let her know we were ready to order. Our diabetic child delivered her insulin at this point.
We finished the appetizer and waited. And waited. And waited. Approximately 30 minutes later, our waitress informed us that our food was on its way. We then proceeded to continue to wait. Another 15 minutes later, another waitress (who ours was training with) again told us the food 'will be right out'. Right out equated to another 10 minutes of waiting. I caught our waitress as she walked past and informed her that one of our party is diabetic and it had now been an hour since she dosed. The waitress claimed the kitchen was waiting for just one more item and that it would be here 'in literally seconds'.
When the food finally arrived, EVERYTHING was lukewarm, from the brisket, to the pulled pork, salmon, chicken and even the COLESLAW. We decided it was pointless to send anything back to the kitchen as there was no telling how much longer we would have to wait. The second waitress stopped by to 'apologize' for the wait, but her eyes were scanning the room as she spoke, so the apology felt pretty hollow.
The saga continued when we asked for the check and provided a credit card for payment. The manager came by and stated that their card system was down, and asked if we could pay cash. On a bill that exceeded $100! Luckily, we had enough cash between us. While waiting for us to gather the cash for the bill, he asked us if our meal was satisfactory, to which I stated, 'service was quite slow'. Most people would respond at that point, even if it were to just apologize. He, however, chose to just stand there silently, as though nothing had been said. All told, we were there for an hour and forty minutes, the majority of which was spent waiting.
In the past months, we've eaten at other restaurants that were understaffed, and have always been understanding since the wait staff typically were candid about any delays and were professional in their demeanor. I realize this review is almost entirely about the service at Fat Eddy's, rather than their food. Was it the best bbq I've ever had? No. Not even close, but it was not bad. in fact, I would have considered it as a possible dinner option the next time we are at Grove City, if not for the deplorable service and the absolute lack of sincerity in their meager service recovery attempt.
Save your money and go somewhere else. You'll have a much more positive...
Read moreLocal BBQ joint with excellent smoked wings and wing night on Wednesday. The Brisket quesadillas are very plain only some cheese and brisket. Would benefit from some cooked onions, more cheese and maybe a salsa or even their BBQ sauce. The pulled smoked chicken nachos need to have the cheese broiled on top, then warm sauces instead of cold cheese and cold sauce that cools the chicken to the point of needing to be reheated. And instead of the cold raw onions that overpower the dish, sliced green onions would be more subtle and enhancing to the dish. The half price happy hour from 4-6 is nice but they need some basic bar ingredients like lime juice and brandy to make some classic cocktails. They also need to train their bartenders in a core group of classic and popular cocktails. Everytime I go I end up having to pull the recipe up on the cocktail I've requested and show it to whatever bartender happens to be there (I never get the same one no matter what night I go). I really want to love this place and it's so close to my house that it could be a fun local place to go along with being so close to the outlet mall and the intersection of 2 major continental highways. But they need to try harder to make it special and stand out from the mediocre mess that seems to be the new dinning out "standard".
UPDATE: 6/20/25 Well things have definitely improved since my last review. They have a more regular bar staff who are able to make cocktails without me having to show them the recipe. The food has improved as well. They stopped serving this quesadillas and have added more sandwich and entree options. Friend had the brisket sandwich with horseradish aioli, hubby had the shrimp tacos, another friend had the fish tacos, I had the fish and chips other friend had burger. Since it was Friday the ribs were on special (they have a different special item every day of the week) and my other friend enjoyed them They still have $0.99 smoked wings on Wednesday. I say give them a try. We...
Read moreStopped here for to-go order during travels so my husband and I had supper at home without having to cook. There was no staff upon entry so we went to the bar to place order. No staff there either. Two tables/booths of diners and two different staff members brought their food out and another walked by and into the kitchen. Nobody approached us. After waiting about seven minutes, I finally asked the one staff member returning to the kitchen to give us a menu. He said he'd be right with us and we finally got service. My husband and I both ordered brisket entrees. Both of us got the brussels sprouts, which were good but the fibrous ends were not trimmed. I got the mac & cheese, which was incredibly bland - that went in the garbage! My husband got the beans and said they were good. My husband's brisket was tender and had a thin strip of fat on the edge, which is normal and what we're used to getting at smoke houses/BBQ's. My brisket was half fat and the meat was tough - garbage! Now let's talk cornbread, one of my favorite parts of a BBQ dinner. They describe it on their menu as 'dusted with cinnamon,' so I asked if I could get mine without the dusting of cinnamon. He said, "Sure!" I also asked if I got honey butter with it, as described in the cornbread basket. He said, "No. I'll have to charge you extra for that." Ok, no problem. He got me the honey butter and it had cinnamon in it! I told him to keep it. So, I get home and get the cornbread out and it's full of cinnamon - not just a dusting; it's all through the batter. This is not a savory cornbread to enjoy with a meal; it's dessert! I paid $70 for food that mostly went in the trash! ...
