My wife took me to lunch for my birthday at Jimm’s Steakhouse at 1935 S Glenstone Ave, Springfield, Mo., we're on a tight budget so we only eat out for special occasions, I wanted to do an honest review. I wanted to stress, I have no affiliation with Jimm’s, this is not a paid review. Some places in this group pay for fake reviews in a practice called astroturfing, to fool the potential customers with fake reviews into coming to their place for lunch or dinner. This is an honest review from a retired Marine, who detest that disgraceful, dishonest, illegal business practice. So please read this review to help you and others try a Jimm’s Steakhouse & Pub, if you haven’t already. We entered the business at 1:00 pm, we were greeted by 2 ladies at the podium in front hallway, very warmly, with smiles, who said hello, welcome. We told them we had a reservation we made only 15 minutes prior, they said of course and 1 of the ladies said follow me please. We were seated in an alcove which was perfect for the three of us. But a little chilly with the AC vent focused on the edge of the room, but still comfortable. Waiter Robbie, came to introduce himself and take our drink order, very soon after us being seated, but waited while we situated ourselves. Very friendly, and helpful. He brought our drinks back and we ordered an appetizer, peppadews, and our meals, My wife the Hawaiian chicken, my son a cheese burger, me the special black & blue sirloin. Robbie informed me 1 trip to the salad bar was included with my lunch special. He came back with bread in just a couple of minutes and informed us our appetizer would be up in about 7 minutes. I went for my salad at salad bar, lettuce was crisp, cold, there was fresh spinach, broccoli, peppers, macaroni salad, potato salad, and much more. I just got what I wanted, covered with a ranch dressing and went back to enjoy. Just as I finished my salad, Robbie brought our appetizer to the table, warned us it was hot, and informed us our entrees would be delivered in around 12 minutes. He asked if there was anything he could get us, poured us water and refilled my son’s Dr Pepper, and then went to service his other tables in the room. The appetizer was absolutely delicious, hot at first, but delicious and for the price a great buy. Just as we finished the appetizer our entrees were delivered by a young lady who said they were very hot, and asked if there was anything else we needed? Would you like to cut into the middle of your steak while I'm here? We politely thanked her and said we were good. All of the entrees looked great, the presentation top notch. We started on our entrees, I cut into my steak which was medium. It was cooked to perfection, the taste of the blackened rub, combined with the blue Cheese crumbles was awesome. The mash potatoes hot and scrumptious. My son’s burger and fries looked awesome, and he said the flavor was great. My wife said the Hawaiian chicken was good, however somewhat firm. Overall, everything was good. We ate and as we were finishing, Robbie came to ask how was everything? We told him great, and thanked him. He informed us that if we had any leftovers, he would box it up for us. I told him we enjoyed everything so much, and even though we normally have leftovers we weren’t going to have any today. He asked if we wanted to try any of their deserts, I told him it was my birthday and I would have the brownie as my cake to go. He was surprised, asked if it was really my birthday, I told him yes. He said happy birthday, its mine too! We told him happy birthday, he thanks us, and informed us the brownie is normally served with ice cream so he would pack it with ice to go so we could enjoy later. I said you know what, lets just get it for here. Were full, but we will try. Robbie arrived just a few minutes later with a large Brownie covered with a peanut butter mousse, and a scoop of ice cream. I tasted it first, it was truly AWESOME. I told my wife and son they had to try it. My wife said she was full and couldn’t eat any more, but we kept trying.

I decided to give this place a try since it has seems to be highly rated by both people and publications. Granted it says steakhouse in its name I decided to go a different route for my menu choices which may have led to my average experience. First off a major point of note was how friendly and attentive my server was and in fact all the servers near my table. I never needed a refill on my drink nor did I ever find myself unable to locate anyone, service A+. So I went with the asparagus steak bacon app to start and it was the highlight of my meal. Very delicious and the steak around the asparagus was a welcomed variation I had never experienced and will definitely try to replicate at home. The dipping sauce balsamic reduction is rich and sweet and savory, delectable and a must try with this dish. I actually found myself thinking about other foods I would love to try it on, it was yummy. Next up was the skewered shrimp wrapped in bacon and I subbed the side for Brussels sprouts which I though I had inferred I wanted the appetizer version but that was not what I got. I took the shrimp off the skewers in the picture so you can see relative size of them as the menu calls them large. The shrimp were good and the bacon added a nice smokiness to them. They were also cooked well and possible closer to well done but I assume the chef was trying to get the bacon to a crispness prior to pulling them from the grill. The Brussels sprouts on the other hand were swimming in a puddle of oil and were severely over cooked. They were very soft I didn’t need to chew them, furthermore the river of oil made them very unappealing and I couldn’t bring myself to eat anymore than the top layer of five or six. I’m a Brussels sprout super fan when they are prepared right and this dish made me sad inside. Finally I decided to opt for Jimm’s brownies minus the scoop of ice cream as you can see in the photo. I was full but though I should do my due diligence and experience the desert menu. It was good, very good, but be forewarned it is dense almost like the gluten free choc cake type dense and rich. I’m sure the vanilla ice cream scoop would have been a welcomed balance to the plate but I opted out this time. The secret star of this plate is the dollop of peanut butter mouse tucked on the side of the brownie. You MUST scoop this up and smear it across your brownie before consumption, you will thank me and it’ll make sense once it hits your lips! All in all a decent spot that probably has great steak and if I return I’ll give one of their cuts a go. As for the purpose of this review...pass on the Brussels sprouts and only get the shrimp if you really don’t want steak.

We were visiting our son in Springfield. He likes very simple foods, like burgers. We like somewhat more interesting things, shall we say, but we also like good standard American food. I actually entered his food likes and my own and my SO's food likes, in general and I asked for AI to come up with a place that might be pleasing for all of us. This place came up at the top. We came for lunch, about 1:00. The place was actually quite full. Reservations might have been better. Anyway, we were seated quite quickly. The place has a 1970s woody vibe. But still nice. My son got the lemon-crusted chicken. My significant other got the pecan salmon (It was called something like that). I did order the stuffed mushroom appetizer, and they were remarkably good. Pretty sure they are crab stuffed. I just couldn't resist trying the 16 oz prime rib. Apparently it is aged, rubbed with garlic. There is au ju and horseradish sauce. I also got the asparagus. On the side with the steak I got some mushrooms cooked in, I believe, a burgundy sauce. Two of us had a Caesar salad, and they also have a salad bar. My son doesn't actually eat vegetables. So I actually was able to go to the salad bar as well, and it was very nice, though not extensive. Everything you would need for a simple salad, but not much else. They brought out excellent crusty bread. I also got to eat my son's green beans, because of course they turn out to be vegetables. They had a smokey taste and were excellent. Everything was excellent, actually. Not healthy, per se, but a nice indulgence. If a very good steak pub is your sort of thing, this is the place. Of course I didn't actually have trouble eating absolutely everything, and then some, but I think this meal would have been too much for a lot of people. Our waitress, Paula, was excellent, very pleasant, and super attentive. I feel that the prices are about as would be expected for this type of food. $20 - $40 per plate. Probably not the best place to go very often if you have coronary artery disease (as I do), I'm taking an extra dose of my statin. We didn't indulge in the desserts, which sounded excellent as well. Such restraint.

First time visit to this venue with a group of 3 couples. We tried to make reservations but they had filled up on reservations but had walk up seating. We were greeted by the front of house and quickly seated. The building was old and dated, dark and the flow was terrible. A narrow hallway led to the dining area which meant customers could not enter and leave at the same time.

Although it was dated it appeared very clean. We were seated together at a nice table in a quiet and intimate setting. The waitress came to our table quickly and answered a few questions and offered a free wine tasting. 2 in our group, myself included, tried the wine. It was delicious but just a few minutes later before my friend finished hers and before we knew what happened, the waitress removed the unfinished wine. I read about this in another review so it’s clearly a standard there.

Our orders were taken quickly and efficiently, our drinks also came quickly. Included in the meal was choice of potato and choice of either a salad or the salad bar. Everyone chose the salad bar. The salad bar was small which isn’t really an issue for me. The problem was the quality. The salad was clearly bagged lettuce, there were cherry tomatoes that had to be picked through as some were soft and had soft brown spots and the chopped boiled eggs looks odd in appearance, upon checking, I found they were frozen. FROZEN. Now if I were at a bar or a buffet, I might over look such things but we were eating at a “high end” steakhouse and paying high prices for that experience. In my opinion, with a small salad bar with minimal offerings (which is totally fine BTW) the quality should be spot on and fresh. There is absolutely no excuse for the frozen eggs, bad tomatoes and bagged salad.

We all ordered steaks. A couple in our group opted for the Hawaiian sirloin one added the shrimp scampi, one the meatloaf, and myself and one other the 11 ounce sirloin. While waiting for our meals, the waitress brought warm bread to the table. The bread was good but when I added the butter brought to the table it was rancid and not edible.

The meals arrived and everyone’s steak was cooked to the proper temp but they were not hot and basically room temperature. My husband was one that ordered the Hawaiian sirloin. Let me start by saying, we eat a lot of steak as does everyone in our group. My husbands steak was not good. It had a taste of being on the side of going bad. We couldn’t decide if it was the meat or if the marinade they were using was old and going south. I tried it and agreed. The other at the table who ordered it also echoed the same issue. The shrimp scampi was ridiculous. It came in a very small bowl and did not appear like that typical dish. I had the regular sirloin. The taste was fine although bland and it was tough. I ordered the loaded baked potatoe. It was sufficiently loaded and it was good. The meatloaf was just okay.

If it had been one bad or lackluster dish, you can give it a pass but it was every meal. We will not be back. I think they are keeping food too long and serving it to diners and that is unacceptable especially at their prices. A steak cooked at our home is far superior than what we had at this eatery. A steak cooked at Texas Roadhouse for 1/2 the price would have been much more enjoyable. If you are going to have a high end restaurant and charge high end prices then you have to deliver and this place fell far short. We will not be back. There are plenty of other options in Springfield so we will choose to try someplace else the next time we want to have that type of experience.

The crazy part was the place was PACKED when we left with people standing in line waiting to be seated. There were plenty of good reviews for this place which makes me wonder if people just go because it’s supposed to be good 🤷🏻‍♀️ because it was not. There were other reviews mixed in which pretty much mirror our experience. I would recommend trying another option if you are looking for a...

Heads up: long, nice review coming in. Huge shout out for the service tonight! My husband and I made last minute reservations for tonight and the host on the phone was so friendly and accommodating. We arrived about 20 minutes early and the host let us sit at the bar for drinks while we waited and let the server know we would be there. When we sat at the bar I noticed the woman I was sitting next to was drinking a cosmo, so I decided to order one myself. We quickly struck up a conversation and she mentioned she was a bar tender at Jimm’s and was there on her night off. She recommended a smoked old fashion for my husband (without even knowing he loves old fashions) and he loved it. She also recommended the peppadews for an appetizer.

When we were taken back to our table, I was happy that the room was warm, dimly lit, and quiet enough to have a good conversation. Our server, Susan “Suz” was prompt to the table, gave the specials for the night, and gave us a wine sample. We let her know we needed a minute to look at the menu. When she came back we ordered the peppadews as suggested, and another app. My husband also mentioned that we were not in any rush for dinner. Suz was actually so nice and respectful of that request, saying she appreciates when some people want to take their time.

After apps, we ordered our meals. I don’t order steak often, but I know how I like it prepared. She had a great, descriptive conversation with me to understand how I wanted it, and making sure it matched with the terms they typically use. When the steaks came out, she waited for us to cut into them before heading off. She noticed right away that mine was overcooked, and didn’t wait for me to say something, but immediately stated she would have the team remake it. Again she took the time to know what I wanted and that we weren’t in a rush, so she knew that was what I would want. Not only did they remake the steak, but my whole plate so it would all be warm when I was eating it. She constantly refilled my water without me having to ask, and helped us find the wine we sampled on the menu to order. I hate having to ask for things, so the fact that she was our ally in our dinner experience was so nice.

The entire team, from making the reservation to checking us out truly took care of us. Businesses can make a huge impact on customers with a good first impression (making the reservation on the phone) and when they beautifully handle issues (remaking the food without me having to ask). Plus, I think it’s so cool to see staff members at the business even on their days off, and engaging with patrons (the bartender in on her day off recommending drinks and apps). My husband and I definitely didn’t have the largest ticket in the room, but we were treated with the same service as anyone else. I’ve had great service each time I’ve gone, but today really made me feel happy that we chose Jimm’s for our date night. Keep it up guys....
