The worst service and undercooked food! We were in a rush to catch our ride back to Boston and told them this when we sat down. The waitress took forever to get our order, items were on the menu that you could not even order at the restaurant and could only get at the place next store. Very limited menu. Me and all my friends there at the time are blind and she was no help at all with the menu and gave inaccurate information. I wanted a beer and so did my friend. She only knew a few on tap, said she would come back and let us know. 20 minutes later she still is not back. My friend sitting next to me ordered the Jack abbey’s since she said it was an ipa, but it was not. We were both very unhappy but still waiting to get our food order in! Finally she comes back and takes our order after another 15-20 minutes. I ordered Mac n cheese, my friend got chicken wings. But then we waited nearly half an hour for our food and still did not get it. We were ready to leave, since we needed to catch our ride, and still no food. We finally went over to the bar and asked them to just cancel it. But they said that it was ready and being packaged. I first want to bite that we paid what we paid for a dining experience not to take our meal to go, but it gets worse… She packaged up our food, put it in a bag, and we were waiting outside for our ride. Just then with all the other issues, it occurred to me that she might not have given us utensils to eat our food with. Sure enough, check the bag, no utensils. I run in and get them making the driver wait. So now none of us are happy, but we are just thinking we will move forward, enjoy our food in the car and get over it. Then I bite into my food… first few bites tastes decent, not the best Mac n cheese but not the worst. But then I take a bite into raw pasta! They did not finish cooking my food! The hard pasta nearly broke my temporary crown and hurt my tooth. Worse, my friend starts eating his chicken wings, and they are undercooked! They have us undercooked food since it was not done and they did not want to cancel the order. At this point it is way too late to do anything! We ended up sharing fries that came with one of my other friend’s meal and both tossed out food. We paid over $25 after the tip for undercooked pasta, to the point it was hard, and partially raw chicken! Total waste of money and lucky my friend didn’t get sick! Go to literally any other restaurant in the area and avoid this place...
Read moreI had dinner last evening at Max's Tavern. It was excellent from beginning to end. Courtney was our Server and she was excellent!!! Max's is lucky to have her. She took our Cocktail order promptly. And, made sure we had water on the table.
The Lime Margarita is exactly how it should be. Refreshing. Hand crafted with fresh lime juice and just a drop of sweetness.. The bar was a bit backed up...so there was a brief wait for the cocktails. Apparently the hostess/mgr noticed that we were waiting and she came by the table to offer us a complimentary Proseco with Pear Cocktail.
We passed but, noted this was like dining out years ago at quality restaurants when Owner's, Manager's and Hostesses were watching service, guaranteeing a hospitable experience and visiting Tables/Customers and Thanking them for selecting their restaurant.
We had questions about the Prime Rib. Courtney went directly to customer that was seated nearby to inquire about the tenderness and flavor of the Prime Rib. It is served with homemade DELICIOUS horseradish slaw that is a taste sensation! With just a hint of orange flavor. Fantastic!
Courtney thoughtfully brought us cheddar cheese biscuits served with a gourmet butter..... that were a flavorful surprise.
Courtney checked in with us for a wine order and we selected the house Cabernet. I've had it there before and it pairs well with Beef. It's not "too big"...I enjoy a lighter fruitier Cab and this fits the bill.
Courtney provided professional super service. She also carefully packed our leftovers. Her attention to detail without being at the table too often was spot on...
We go to Max's several times a year for lunch or dinner. We decided last evening to put this into our regular rotation.
Kudos to the Chef and Team for thoughtfully prepared food with an accent on FLAVOR. Well Done!
Thanks Max Team with special thanks to Courtney for your excellent...

Max's Tavern holds a special place in my heart, and with every visit, it never fails to impress. Let me start by raving about their Baseball Filet ala Oscar – it's a culinary masterpiece that hits it out of the park every time. The combination of tender filet mignon, rich crab meat, and savory béarnaise sauce is simply divine. It's a dish I find myself craving regularly and one that keeps me coming back for more.
Now, let's talk about the martinis. Oh, they are spot on delicious! Whether you prefer a classic martini or something with a twist, the mixologists at Max's Tavern know how to craft the perfect cocktail. Sipping on one of their expertly crafted martinis while enjoying the ambiance is an experience in itself.
Speaking of ambiance, Max's Tavern nails it. The vibe is a perfect blend of swanky sophistication meets Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack meets The Sopranos. It's classy yet comfortable, with just the right amount of old-school charm. And let's not forget about the attentive wait staff who always go above and beyond to ensure a memorable dining experience.
And finally, let's talk about the staff. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. The entire team at Max's is genuinely welcoming, and it's clear that they take pride in providing top-notch service.
As a former student at Smith College, Max's Tavern holds a special place in my heart. Every time I'm back in the area, I make it a point to eat at Max's – it's become somewhat of a tradition for me.
