I have been going to St. Georgeās doughnut shop for over 50 years. First, just down the street from my grandparents house at Grand and Glenstone, and then when they opened another one out on scenic street. Our mother would take us there for doughnuts (if we were lucky to have extra money) before church. But the real treat was if we could afford the 55 cent apple fritter. As usual my mom got to know Mr and Mrs St George. (I think his name was Charles and she was/is Katy) I remember very vividly the day we pulled in and found out that Mr St George had passed away. My mom got back in our van and just sat and cried and cried. As a family we were all thrilled and so impressed they pulled together that they kept going the only way a real family business can. When I moved away from Springfield the two foody things I missed most were Jade East chicken fried rice and St Georges apple fritters. Luckily, when I moved back to the area, one of those items hadnāt changed. Unlike the chicken fried rice the apple fritters have stayed consistently DELICIOUS through the decades. Every time Iām in town now I stop in to say hi and grab a couple fritters (and maybe an old fashioned!) Make sure to visit the South national location. It reminds me of the old scenic store and the fritters are just a bit better than the other family owned store on Sunshine. Theyāre good out there but the National location is the best option if you can make it happen. Thank you guys for keeping one of the few happy childhood memories I have easy to re-live. I encourage anyone to support this family owned 417...

Regulars get a different level of engagement from staff than if you're not known. Case in point, many great looking donuts and pastries are unidentified which leaves it to asking the clerk helping you to help identify. But apparently you will be subjected to rolling of the eyes if you interrupt their conversation with the regulars AFTER they've offered to help you out. I'll give them a second chance after another visit. If at which point service is still garbage, I simply wont spend my money there. And I don't expect that to kill their business. They've clearly been in the donut game since the 70's and the donuts themselves...

We hopped in and were immediately graded by the nicest lady who I believe is the owner of the place. We asked for recommendations of what was good and she immediately walked over to this one donut and grabbed it and then just handed the whole donut to us and gave it to us as a free sample! Amazing! It was super delicious. We asked about another donut and then she cuts that one in half and gives us that free too! She was just the nicest lady and so helpful. We bought several donuts to take and ate some the next day and they were still delicious! Highly recommend this place! We...
