We went on Valentines day and it was packed. There were 1/2 dozen couples waiting, yet they got us seated in about 10 minutes. While we were waiting to get seated, it gave me a couple minutes to look at some of the cool nostalgic art. I liked the vintage motorcycle's, an Indian Motorcycle sign a collection of cowboy boots etc. My favorite was the framed t-shirts and one in particular. I'm guessing it was from the owners other business as it was a caricature of 'Deckers Custom Bikes' and it said "Costs More....Takes Longer". I dig that attitude. Anyway, I'd eaten here before (a couple times a year) but never really noticed all the detail. It just makes for an overall nice atmosphere. The only table open was one that sat six. They asked us if that was ok or if we wanted to wait a few more minutes for a smaller table. We took it. The restaurant was clean (if you read any of my reviews you'll know that is important to me) and I watched a girl bus a table and she even wiped down the salt and pepper shakers as well as the underside edge of the table. I'm a sticky freak so I appreciated that. While looking at the menu, a couple more tables cleared and they were seating a family of six on a four seat table with a child stuck on each end. We offered to switch with the family and they really appreciated it, as did our server. He brought us complimentary chips and salsa and thanked us. Just then a two seat table opened up and we took that.
I really like the lemonade because it reminds me of what my grandmother made. It's kind of tart and pulpy. It's not the fountain type. My wife got it with raspberries and it is good but too sweet for me. We both ordered the Trolley Chicken sandwich, mine without the fried onion straws. The food came out quickly and the sandwich was a good size. Neither one of us finished ours. It came with the option of a few sides and we both got the salad (minus sprouts). I'd suggest to the owners maybe a smaller portion on the salad or a larger plate. It's so big that it is hard to eat without overflowing on to the table. Great value but lots to eat. For dessert we split the Russian Creme and it was damn tasty. I understand it is either seasonal or only on special occasions. If it's in, get it.
The meal came to $33.82 before tip. I felt it was a good value and we'll go back more often. If you've read any of my other reviews you'll see I always get a few pics. I got one with our server. I can't be sure on his name (maybe Cary) but he was excellent. He didn't use anything to write our order down with and got it perfect. He kept our drinks full and offered good suggestions on what to try. Lastly, I'm a big fan of carrot cake and ordered a slice to go. It's very heavy and the frosting is seriously tasty. I've been nibbling on it for a few days and only have a couple bites left.....bummer. The only carrot cake that I've found that is comparable is from Kneaders. This trumps that for...
Read moreI'm very sad by our experience tonight. We've been to art city trolley a couple times passing through, and are sad to see that the service has gone downhill.
Stopped by on a Monday night and there were only 3 tables taken when we arrived. It only took about 5 minutes to be seated but after that the service was extremely slow. After getting drinks and having our order taken, our waiter (or anyone else) didn't talk to us once until our food arrived about 35 minutes later. My husband had ordered a double burger and when it finally arrived it was cold and pink, not cooked through. We asked them if they could please cook it a little longer. We saw the waiter show the burger to the manager and heard her say to make sure he showed the cook that it was still raw. They ended up bringing a whole new burger about 15 minutes later. It was cooked through this time but they messed up the toppings he had ordered and put sweet pickles instead of dill - which isn't a huge deal, but this was a "custom built" burger so you should get what you order (especially for $12). By this time we had to leave and my husband no longer had an appetite so he just packed up his burger. He was so frustrated he just went up to the counter to pay, without hardly glancing at the bill so we could just get out. Well, looking at the receipt on the way home I found they charged us for both burgers!! Consuming raw hamburger can cause food poisoning, so heaven forbid you ask them to cook your burger all the way through. Nope they will charge you double! I'm a little livid about that. Unfortunately we won't be stopping by there anymore. Go to Five Guys or somewhere else and get a juicy burger with all the toppings you want for half the price. A couple side notes, the artichoke chicken and garlic Rosemary fries are actually pretty good, just not enough to outweigh the rest of the evening or bother coming back. Also, this was our first time coming with our kids, and the kids meal says it's supposed to come with a treat, but nobody ever brought our kids one or mentioned anything about it. There was a large candy jar with laffy taffy and suckers on the counter, but if that's all the treat is supposed to be then that's also...
Read moreArt City Trolley I am a little biased because I worked at the Trolley years... but maybe that is a good thing! First, I love the food at the Trolley. I ate it for years every single day and never got sick of it, I think that's saying something. First recommendation, CALL AHEAD! You can call and get put on the list and you wont have to wait forever! If you have a chance, ask for server Evan or David. They are by-far the best servers at the Trolley. They have both worked there a long time and think about your needs before you even have time to. Now the food; Pretty much anything you order will be amazing, no joke.
Appetizers: Wings! Artichoke Dip! Chips Kellys Way! So many options. My personal fav are the Wings. You can do half and half and choose what sauces and don't fill you up too much so you have room for your meal.
My husband always orders their chicken tenders (you can choose your sauce) with their mac and cheese. I can attest to this Mac and Cheese. The cooks prepare this dish for HOURS each day to make it the way it is... perfect. My personal favorite item here is the Fish and Chips or the Blue Bacon Burger. Fish and Chips: Three delicious pieces of Fish. Ok, this is the weird part, but the Trolley has this Maple Vermont dressing... if you get this dressing and dip your fish and chips in it, it will change the way you view fish and chips forever. I usually get regular fries and a side salad for my sides, but any you choose will be delicious. That being said, the onion rings dont always come with a TON of onion rings, so if you are hungry, I recommend the fries and another choice.
Blue Bacon Burger: you can get a regular meat patty or a veggie patty. It comes on a pretzel bun with crispy bacon, balsamic glazed lettuce, and the best, creamy, blue cheese sauce. It isnt like a blue cheese dressing you are thinking of that one just puts on a salad. It is a creamy cheese that is thick and so good.... Of course everyone raves about the Trolley Salads. You cant go wrong here. Last thing; Dessert. Get the carrot cake. Just do it. Comes with caramel drizzle and cream cheese frosting. I dont have to say...
