Management customer service, one word: terrible. The service that Ryan provided to myself and 2 of my friends was incredibly rude and quite surprising, as he is the manager of the establishment. I am a frequent customer of Wheelhouse and thought highly of this restaurant, until this past Sunday. We went in to get brunch, and sat with a new waitress who was not aware of all of the rules or items on the menu, which is fine because she is new and she was very nice! I ordered the veggie omelet and added a meat, chorizo, which I wasn’t quite sure that it would come out how it did in kind of a soup form, nor was it explained to me as such. I politely asked the waitress if I could send it back and just get regular crumbled sausage, which she said would be fine and apologized for the confusion. Ryan came out to our table with my plate in hand, explaining that what the waitress informed us about modifying meals was incorrect, but that he would compensate this one time due to misinformation.
My friend then proceeded to tell him that she didn’t like the goat cheese that came with her omelet and asked could she have another one made without the cheese. As she has never been to the restaurant and simply went off recommendations. Ryan responded to her rudely saying that wasn’t his problem that she didn’t like it and that he would not replace it for her because she knew what came on the omelet. He told her she would have to purchase another meal if she wanted something else. As a MANAGER, his remarks were unacceptable with an unnecessary attitude! I stepped in to calmly rectify the situation, so that we could all be satisfied customers, as I have NEVER received service such as this from a manager of an establishment. I initially did not have an attitude with Ryan, I simply just wanted my friend to be served properly as this was her first time being at Wheelhouse.
As I stepped in, and simply asked was he the manager and could he just do this for her, he said he would not allow it and that the restaurant does not do "taste testing" and then chose to no longer compensate my meal either. I then did get upset and did curse because I was NOT happy at how we were being treated! He then proceeded to say that he will not serve any of us and that we could leave the restaurant.
The fact that we were thrown out of this establishment instead of being served with great customer service, is just completely out of line. I have been there multiple times during the day and night and have always enjoyed my experience. Due to my service today, I will NEVER go back there! I do hope that as the owner Stephen addresses this issue, but until then I do NOT recommend this...
Read moreThis place is a real downtown Weekend Vibe!
If you want to have a truly immersive "Brunch" experience, you'll enjoy your time spent here, along with its accompanying neighbor businesses, Start Bar, and the Midwestern.
They have a novel idea to let you enjoy your mimosas across all three venues (they're all on the same street) throughout the duration of their brunch special. Start off with some mimosas and french toast at wheelhouse, then make your way next door for some classic arcade games and more drinks! (They give you a wrist band so you wont have to pay again) Maybe you want the real midwest feel while you're drinking your breakfast. Just mosey on down the street to the Midwestern!
Moving past the idea of walking all the alcohol into my system, nearly guaranteeing I'm going to need more food before I leave (smart), Wheelhouse and co.'s novelty begins to lose its luster after the second or third drink (about which time most people will probably stop caring)
The food isnt bad. But theres nothing standout about it. Their Service is decently good too, and you dont have to wait long for a refill. I havent found a true bottomless mimosa in St. Louis yet, but you wont find yourself looking for the servers waiting for a refill here.
If I were to improve the experience at Wheelhouse specifically, I would just turn the music down, and make it more consistent. I can appreciate that they foster an environment of diversion and inclusion (though you may not find much diversity at the brunch at Wheelhouse) but skipping from Rap music, to Country, to rock, to electro Pop every song does not feel ambient, especially if it's so loud you cant really talk over it.(and yes, Lord, do people try) You can tell that Wheelhouse isnt going to let go if its "Nighclub" reputation. And theres nothing wrong with that. It's fantastic to see such personality from all of the venues. I would just like to see a bit more consideration to the people who are enjoying their time there for WHAT they are there enjoying their time for, rather than trying to create the ultimate vibe.
But create the ultimate vibe, they definitely have. When you come to any of the three buildings for brunch, you can tell care and time was taken into their plan, and that they have tailor made an experience for you to enjoy yourself, and your time (and money) spent there. If you want to spend your Saturday or Sunday morning in good company, with decent food, friendly conversation, and a uniquely "St. Louis" experience, head to Wheelhouse, Start bar, or...
Read moreI'll start by saying I have worked restaurant jobs at 3 locations in the past working both front and back jobs with 5 years as a server myself and currently working in a job where I'm providing customer service to my fellow employees as a main staple of my work so I try to be gracious when things don't go as planned.
The drink I initially ordered, directly off the main printed menu, wasn't available as I was told it was only something they do for the holidays. Ok, whatever, I order a Moscow Mule instead, which arrived in a regular clear glass instead of a traditional brass cup which is why I didn't realize it was even my drink when she brought drinks by and placed this particular drink on the far side of the table much closer to other seats at the table. When I requested my drink as she was taking my meal order, she found my drink elsewhere on the table where she had placed it by another guests empty seat and slid it over to me. Eventually everyone's food arrived except for mine, other servers brought out the meals as they were ready and we barely saw our server, when it was clear no more food was coming I flagged our server down asking about my meal. A little while later she dropped a random drink off in front of another quest who was drinking lemonade as she ran past but no food. We couldn't figure out who the drink was for since nobody had ordered it. Apparently she thought I was asking for a mule and was still oblivious to the fact that no dinner was in front of me while everyone else was eating. So the drink she placed in front of another guest was supposed to be for me??? At one point as others were finishing a different server did randomly come by with a plate she thought was for our table but it was not what I had ordered. It happened to be the same item the person to my left ordered but had already been served. Another mystery unable to be solved because we were still unable to find our server. I saw her over by the bar and went over to let her know that I still hadn't received the meal I ordered and at this point, I don't want the meal, don't make it, and don't put it on the bill. Others at the table had shared appetizers and some of their food with me as they finished up. Everyone else was done and getting ready to go by now.
My personal experience was a huge letdown with repeated failures in basic service and the complete failure to even realize it was happening when I spoke up after waiting patiently. First time and last time, I will NOT be back to...
