Siena offers a well executed northern Italian menu with incredible attention to fresh ingredients in a beautiful setting full of energy and attentive service. My favorite section of the menu is the hand-made pastas , which is simply one of the best I've seen outside of little Italy in New York City. A perennial favorite of mine if the Cavatelli al Ragu de "Salumiere", made with and amazing homemade ricotta cheese and spinach and served with a sweet and hot sausage ragu. Another dish I've been enjoying recently is a sardines appetizer, made with sardines that were grilled just enough to accentuate its natural flavors and elevate the dish to another level. It is served with a simple arugula and tomato salad, lightly dressed with lemon and olive oil. The service at Siena is always convivial and professional. Pietro and Pasquale, the owners, always strive to make sure you are having a great time and are quick to make any recommendations they think you might enjoy. The clientele is mostly locals who have come to appreciate this slice of Italy in Stamford and as a result have become regulars during the 20+ years this restaurant has been in service. During my last visit this past Saturday they had an issue with the credit card processing machine, which was down due to an issue with their internet service. As a result they had to process payments manually, but they handled the situation with the kind of competence you expect from time-tested professionals in the service industry. I highly recommend a visit to Siena. The menu, the setting and the courteous service will make you feel like you are on vacation during your...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in my experience here. Through reading reviews, my friends and I were excited to try a new restaurant. We have our usual spots, but wanted to check out something different. Based on the reviews, we were expecting delicious, high quality food.. however, what we were met with was some of the most underwhelming, bland and poorly cooked food.
The waiter(s) get a 5 out of 5. They were very attentive, and always near to refill our water, or take drink orders. The food gets a 1/10. We ordered a couple of appetizers/starters, however two stood out the most: the eggplant appetizer, in which with all of us, we only ate less than half of it. It was very undercooked. The meatballs were dry, however the sauce was good.
A couple of us ordered the raviolis for dinner (half order, as they give an option) and it came with literally four 1"x1" raviolis, that were DEFINITELY not fresh. From the pictures in the reviews I've seen, I was expecting some decent sized raviolis - not sure what happened there. The sauce for the ravioli's was also completely different than what came with the meatball appetizer... it was awful.
Unfortunately, we will not be back. We walked into this place with super high expectations, excited to try something new (to us) in the area, and left hungry and...
Read moreI was looking forward to a nice Italian dinner tonight with my girlfriend in Stamford. We had been to Siena Restaurante in the past and we had enjoyed it but that was quite some time ago. In any event, tonight was a wholly different experience. The room was packed and so loud we couldn't even hear each other without virtually yelling across the small table. The service was so slow and took forever to get drinks and order appetizers. Over 15 minutes later, they told us that one of the appetizers we ordered was now sold out. The grilled calamari special came cold so we had to send it back. It was quite good when it came the second time around. The green salad was awash with dressing. The homemade pappardelle was over cooked and mealy and the sauce was way too oily. The waiter gave us the bill and said their credit card machine was broken, so we had to pay cash or leave our credit card information with them (which was a non-starter). As a courtesy, he offered to comp us our wine. Overall, the one star in this review is quite generous. Next time we want a nice italian meal in Stamford we will go to Columbus Park or perhaps Fortina. Too bad as this placed used to be a solid choice for a good italian meal...
