After being offered a BOGO deal for this restaurant on Uber Eats, I decided to try them. After accepting the deal on UE, I trawled the entire menu. And I do mean ENTIRE, as it is rare I eat out and the prospect of missing an item I would like best is something I avidly avoid. I order my meal. However, when the meal was delivered, there was just one of each item. I figured it was an honest mistake that would be fixed after speaking with the store. No big deal.
However, this reasonable expectation could not have been further from the truth. The person on the phone proceeded to tell me that I did not ‘select the appropriate BOGO items’ that were available. Now, given I had scoured the entire menu, I knew this was not true, as there was not a single item on the menu that was specifically marked as BOGO—Uber Eats classifies the whole restaurant as BOGO without item-level differentiation. I was persistent in making this point on the phone with the restaurant but, based on my experience, customer service is the least of this restaurant’s concerns and they made it appallingly clear they had no intention of honoring this deal. The person on the phone simply hung up on me, without making the slightest of efforts to fix the problem—both for my order and for others that attempt to do the ‘BOGO’
I really wouldn’t have tried this restaurant without the deal—especially given their subpar reviews I noted beforehand. It is most certainly my fault, in part, that I gave them a chance in that respect. However, despite the bad reviews, I certainly did not expect this. Frankly, all considered in this experience, it presents as though the restaurant is pretending to offer a deal they have no intention of honoring for the purpose of accruing more online orders.
I will never order from this place again. I would strongly encourage others not to believe deals this restaurant offers and, upon eating, not to eat here at all. 0/5
Update in response to restaurant's response: It is curious the restaurant decided to misrepresent it as, "all of your F bombs." In fact, it was one in the context of "are you F-ing kidding me? I read through the whole menu hang-up sound" The owner was appallingly curt, unhelpful, and unapologetic leading up to that point. All throughout, the owner was unwilling to admit the 'BOGO deal' was misleading—simply stating it applied to 'select items' (that simply don't exist). However, the BOGO deal on UEats did not say it only applied to 'select items'—the whole restaurant menu was listed in the BOGO section. The fact the owner was unapologetic and unwilling to rectify the problem in any way, and did not offer to fix how the 'BOGO deal' was presented on UEats (so others do not fall victim to the same trap), was astounding. You know, the kind of customer service that makes you go, "Are you F-ing kidding me?"
As an interesting aside, I notice the 'BOGO deal' is no longer offered on UberEats at the time of this writing. But I'm sure it's just a coincidence it was taken down after I called out the restaurant's misleading...
Read moreFirst of all, screw all the bad reviews because I just had a great dinner during a pandemic thanks to Uncle Chen's!
When it comes to Uncle Chen's, we ordered non "American Chinese" dishes for delivery and we were not disappointed. We just moved here after traveling all over Asia, including Taiwan. I think their rice with braised pork could use a little bit of tweaking with a little bit more spices and a little less sugar, but the taste still reminded me of homecooking. Their crispy salty chicken was a little dried, but the flavor was there. Other than that, everything else was delicious. I especially enjoyed the fried rice and the hot chili pork.
There was a minor hiccup on a forgotten item I ordered, but the boss lady was super nice and warm over the phone and she got that delivered to me right away. In fact, the customer's service was so good that I'll be back! Mind you, I've met the "rude" delivery guy and I think he's just a socially awkward guy with a kind heart. If you have any issues with the quality of their services, definitely give them a call and a chance for them to fix it. This place has a lot to offer and there are a lot of hidden gems on their menu. Remember this is a family-run restaurant, so there's always a learning process for them no matter how long they've been around. Be kind and patient with them, for...
Read moreI placed an order with Uncle Chen's through GrubHub, it arrived 20 minutes past the projected delivery time, which I didn't find problematic, though some may. When the food arrived, my order was missing a passionfruit smoothie ($5.40 value). I was willing to be passive about the matter but as I continued eating, I found two hairs in my vegetable lo mein. After some time passed, I called the restaurant to describe my experience. The woman I spoke to on the phone was incredibly rude and unprofessional. She spoke to her coworkers (which I could hear on the phone) with an angry and inconvenienced tone. She said they all know that the smoothie left the restaurant and was delivered. She also asked why I didn't call sooner to report my feedback. I spoke to her with professionalism and understanding, as I also work in the food service industry and know that it can be stressful. I explained that it was okay if she couldn't refund the smoothie, but I wanted them to be aware and take my feedback into consideration. At no point, did she apologize or try to compensate but instead accused me of being dishonest. I will not be returning to this restaurant, nor will I recommend it to anyone. I was treated with no respect and in a way that was curt and unprofessional. It was absolutely...
