Habit Burger & Grill — Restaurant in Stockton

The food was as good as I remember from when it opened. I had the "double char" which is one of their main burgers, no frills, just the normal trimmings. Their burgers are made to order, they will not start cooking them until you order them. This means fresh and delicious burgers! Their fries are superior to most fast food places. They are crispy and golden. The portion size was "meh" though, which left me wanting for more, especially given the price, which leaves me to my final point.

Unfortunately, they have definitely gotten more expensive, the double-char meal put me out ten dollars, which almost rivals a burger and fries from applebees or red robin (the double-char meal included a drink though). There really isnt much of a discount for a combo if any at all (the burger was 6, the fries were 2, and the drink was 2).

I got a side of ranch because I have always loved their ranch for my fries. It was as tasty as I remember from when they opened, but honestly it felt MUCH thinner, almost watery. It literally drips off the fries as you dunk them in the ranch.

The inside is more of a fast-food experience than a sit-down one. Chairs are somewhat uncomfortable, but thats by design, keeping people eating then moving on quickly. The booths are more comfortable. The general ambiance is noisy, you can hear everybody else talking, and the kitchen is open by the dining area, and you can hear the grills going, orders being taken. It's better for a shorter chat than a sit down family experience.

I still recommend the habit as an experience, the burgers are so tasty, and the fries are made well. Just don't expect the greatest of value in terms of dollars, and we can hope they decide to go back to keeping thicker...

Update: Monday, November 6, 2023 PM My son wanted to go here this evening to try their new sandwiches! 100% beef chardog Parmesan crusted grilled cheese Sourdough BLT These sandwiches are $5 each‼️ I was starving. I ordered one of each. My favorites were the Parmesan crusted grilled cheese and the sourdough BLT. Quite tasty. I would’ve been happier if they were a bit warmer. Especially the cheese. And they could use a little bit more cheese. Seems like a good deal… three sandwiches for $15? My son ordered the 100% beef chardog and the Parmesan crusted grilled cheese. He was quite happy with both. He said he would come here for lunch to have those sandwiches again!. Congratulations to The Habit for coming up with something different, tasty and affordable. They do a nice job of grilling the bread so it’s crunchy! We also had a side of the tempura green beans and they were quite good also! Hot and crunchy. Good job, Habit‼️ The habit has decent burgers. I ordered delivery tonight. You lose some quality and heat in the delivery process. That’s sad. The best is to eat in the restaurant.

I ordered the double char burger, lettuce wrapped. That was good. Would’ve been better if it was hot and fresh.

I ordered the garlic sautéed grilled brussels sprouts. That’s a nice addition to the menu…and healthy!

I ordered the french fries. They were still edible by the time I received them. Of course they would’ve been better hot and fresh!

The delivery service did a great job. Didn’t make any extra stops in between. Got it here as fast as he could.

I ordered Habit after I put an order together for Five Guys and saw the price! Five Guy’s...

Tried their single burger when they opened years ago and was mediocre and didn't go back April 2023 when I was craving a good burger. Inside the restaurant was pretty empty, but they were busy with many delivery orders. I hope it was just my order that was like this, I ordered a bbq bacon double char, I guess the cashier did not hear me. I got a single burger with literally a drop of bbq sauce, but was charged for a single. Points for the toasted bun adding flavor, however the thickness of the bun was not my preference, fresh veggies inside BUT the meat had a semi-rubbery texture that reminded me of boiled kidneys (which I eat), but I've never had a burger patty that texture before. Tempura green beans were amazing (10/10 recommend), fries were good in the way you can tell they keep their oil clean and no over salting. The fried chicken sandwich had a crispy edge that reminded me of fried fish and the chicken and batter was bland as if it was not seasoned chicken battered with not seasoned flour and milk. I would have been fooled that my strawberry milkshake was made with real strawberry ice cream or strawberries and vanilla ice cream if it was not for the red syrup dripping down the side of the cup. The chocolate shake is the best not real ice cream shake I've had in town! It tasted like fudge and vanilla ice cream. No weird chemical aftertaste like usual chocolate shakes. I know it's common to use syrups, but getting it all over my hand and it being done so sloppy is something I shouldn't have to deal with. I will be back for a chocolate shake, fries, and fried green beans...and probably to try...
