When visiting Mystic, we stumbled upon an amazing Italian restaurant by chance during lunch. It’s a hidden gem that I haven’t seen many people recommend, so I’m sharing it here for anyone traveling or exploring the town!
From the moment we stepped in, we were amazed by the cozy Christmas vibes. The place was decked out in festive decorations, making it feel super warm and welcoming. The staff was incredibly friendly as well.
Before the meal, they served complimentary bread, just like many Western restaurants. The bread was perfectly baked—soft inside, crispy outside. Paired with their special butter, it was the perfect way to start!
Here’s what we ordered: 🌟 Salt-Baked Clams (6 pieces) One of the appetizers we picked was the salt-baked clams. They were seasoned with salt and mixed with cheese. Each bite was delightful, and the clams were cleaned thoroughly with no grit at all. However, if you eat too much of the seasoning, it can be a bit salty.
🌟 Shrimp and Tomato Bread Similar to bruschetta, this dish had shrimp and tomatoes baked together on top. It was incredibly tasty! The bread was the same as their complimentary bread—soft in the center with crispy edges. Each bite was super satisfying.
🌟 Cod with Barley and Tomato For our first entrée, we chose the cod with barley. The cod was tender and flavorful, perfectly cooked. The small black grains under the fish resembled fish roe but were actually their special beans. Paired with the cod, they were delicious! The side tomatoes were stewed until soft and full of flavor—absolutely amazing.
🌟 Spinach and Cheese Pasta This pasta dish had a unique shape and a wonderful texture. It included spinach and small sausage bits. The server mentioned that their house-made sausage had a bit of spice, and they were right—it had a subtle kick! Combined with the pasta, the flavor was perfectly balanced and even more appetizing.
Overall, if you’re visiting Mystic and aren’t sure where to eat, I highly...
Read moreWas very excited to try this being Italian! I started with the Vanilla Orangellico (house made cocktail), was over powered with the 100% proof vodka. For my meal, I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana with Spaghetti. This is my usual go to dish when I order at an Italian restaurant. I was expecting a big portion based on some of the reviews from a a local page. The dinner portion was small for the $27 price. It was crispy, but so thin and when I cut in to it, it was pink along the inside. I brought it to the attention of our very sweet waitress and she informed me that they make their Chicken Parmigiana with chicken thighs. I said to her that is deceiving because it doesn’t state that on the menu. It is not the traditional chicken used for parmigiana. Otherwise, I would have ordered something different. I then asked if they could sub the chicken for meatballs instead. I thought I couldn’t go wrong because I also read they were delicious. Unfortunately, I was not a fan. My friend ordered the spaghetti and meatball lunch portion and she said it was ok. I have heard such good reviews and was very disappointed. It could have been an off day. I may try a pizza and another entree to go the next time. I believe in second chances. Restaurant had large bar when you first walk in, some high top tables along the wall that separates the other two dining areas. Interior was roomy and beautifully decorated. Side note: my meal was comped. Was not expecting it to be, nice gesture from the restaurant. Staff and manager were friendly and...
Read moreWent here to celebrate a party for a relative. The reservation was the easiest part of the whole trip. We were sat immediately upon entry by the hostess and greeted by our waiter in a timely manner. While waiting for the guest of honor, service was good- water refilled constantly and bread brought out. Once the rest of our party arrived, the experience quickly went downhill. Our server made himself scarce the whole night and even after flagging him down and getting him to acknowledge us, he still disappeared for a long time before showing back up multiple times (getting apps ordered, trying to place the order for our entrees, ordering more bar drinks, getting and paying the check). Our whole dining experience took close to 2.5 hours because of this. The food was subpar in flavor and left a lot to be desired- everything was extremely bland from the herbed butter they offer with the complimentary bread to the pasta. Sauteed chicken was dry, unseasoned, and half the size of the breaded cutlet that my counterparts received with their meals. Portion sizes of everything else my party received were worth the price, but desperately needed flavor for everything. Tables are crowded together where we were sat so it wasnt a very comfortable experience being crammed next to people in my party, as well as the table next to us. Overall, don't see the hype of this place. It was my first time there and don't anticipate...
