Giving this restaurant a three instead of a five really pains me as, growing up, it was my favorite place to eat. Unfortunately, our last trip there wasn't up to where their usual standards used to be. This review is from Spring of '21. My main issue was with the staff and some confusing communication. I called to order takeout and explained that I had the promotional offer listed on their website. The women who took my order noted that and said to just bring the coupon on went I went to pick it up and they would take it off the bill. When I went in to pick up the food and pay, I was told by the server and her supervisor that I could not use it on takeout. I showed her the coupon, which did not have any language whatsoever about only being for dine-in/days of the week/any type of restrictions, and I also mentioned that the person on the phone said it would be fine. They "compromised" and offered a lower percentage off, which I appreciate, but I was still left frustrated with the lack of communication. I understand the issues with staffing and prices due to Covid, but perhaps remove any offers if you're just going to say you are unable to honor them. Speaking about the food, I ordered the steak, and it was still as good as I remember. Juicy and fully of flavor and the baked potato was delicious. My mom ordered the broiled seafood melody and said the lobster sauce should have come in a bucket because it was so good but that the seafood was just okay. I do think that that's a meal that is most likely not as good for takeout as it would be if we ordered dine-in. This was before the salad bar had come back and we realized that the salad bar has really been carrying the experience for us over the past 20+ years. I'd go back with the salad bar to give them another chance just since I have had so many great meals here, but I'm not totally optimistic that it will be as good as it once was.

My expectations for a barn themed steakhouse are high, so I may have set myself up for disappointment. Sat at the bar and am the space is really cool. It is in the largest part of the building and is wide open. Bar itself is unique and eye catching. I’d go back just for the atmosphere. Bartender gave me menus but then took quite a while to tame my order. Upon placing my order, someone from the kitchen left to milk a cow to begin making the Gorgonzola cheese for my steak. French onion soup was delicious and did not disappoint. What was disappointing was unrolling cheap flatware from a paper napkin. Again, I have high expectations, but cannot justify “cheap” for a $50 dinner. I was also disappointed waiting so long for a medium rare steak while while the curds drained to make the Gorgonzola. This would’ve been a great opportunity to provide something to nosh on; even a roll would’ve been an improvement. Allas my steak arrived nicely presented with someone’s thumb print dried to the plate which meant I could begin eating. It was piled high with onion-Gorgonzola topping (guess they made extra cheese) which was generous, but I do still want to taste my steak at Steak Loft and the taste of onion was unrecognizable in the mix. Cook on steak was good, but trying to cut it with a knife I think was bought from a restaurant auction was unpleasant. Had a stuffed potato for a side which was average. I told the bartender I would take another beer in a few minutes but that never happened.

Wanted to take my boyfriend here since he's never eaten here and I haven't been in many years. We called ahead because my boyfriend in a power wheelchair and we wanted to make sure we could get proper seating. We talked to a Nigel and he was very accommodating and greeted us when we arrived. We ordered our meals and I like you get a salad bar with your meal as one of your sides. I had tenderloin tips with a mushroom gravy and my boyfriend had top sirloin. Very good but came out before our sides came out. So we ate our main part then the sides came. Had a good waitress but she was very busy and couldn't really get refills nor a box or bill without waiting for a bit. Everything great until we go to leave and we are parked in handicapped in front of the restaurant and someone is parked diagonally behind us with their car running in the middle of the road with no occupant. We put the ramp down and my boyfriend couldn't get into the van. Of course it starts to rain. I ran inside and the hostess came out and was super apologetic and got right on it. Took the license plate and another staff person came out and told us how sorry she was and how this wasn't right and would fix it as quickly as they could locate the person. Finally the person comes out and says" oops, sorry." Seriously no care that we waited in the rain, couldn't get in our van and couldn't leave. Seriously a dumbfounding moment but the restaurant staff were on top of that so we were greatful.

Edit Company replied below with some bullshit to try and make other potential customers believe they care but yet again they ghosted me and have not responded! They have been ignoring me Since NOV! After promising a gc for refund due to their horrible wait staff and nasty food! LIARS! Copy of my original email to them, I was promised a gift card as a “refund” and its been since November, they’re now ignoring me after making that promise and its obviously they never intended on giving me the gc. I tried to handle this nicely but they no longer deserve that! We were there November 11th, last Saturday. We stopped on our way home after a very long day and trying to get all the way back to MA. The waiter was Douglas Y according to my receipt, he was a nightmare, very rude and very unprofessional, coupled with poor food it was a very bad experience. My mom simply asked for the stuffed potato but decided not to get it due to it having chives and just asked for a baked potato with cheese and sour cream, he complained and whined and rolled his eyes and said “ugh thats going to take me a whole hour to make” first off its just adding toppings to the baked potato your place already offers and secondly he isn’t a chef/cook so really it isn’t going to take HIM personally any time at all. Later we asked for some bread rolls, in the past they just brought them to us but he said “we don’t have any bread rolls here” i said we had them in the past and pointed to some at another table and he said oh those are rolls not bread and “I can’t give you any until you order because you might leave without paying” um excuse me did you just accusing us of trying to steal! Thats rude! He brought the rolls later and they were cold and stale. After someone else brought our food out we never saw him again, over an hour still waiting and looking for our waiter! I asked for my steak medium and it was completely raw inside but yeah I couldn’t find the waiter so I just ate the ends because they were less raw, I was starving and had no choice since he never came back. My moms fish was soggy and cold. At that point when I finally found him on my way to the bathroom I just said we wanted to leave and asked him to bring the check, I wasn’t waiting another hour for replacement food, I was in agony and had a long drive back. He huffed and rolled his eyes, after I got back from the bathroom he asked if we wanted dessert and I told him I asked for the check and was making remarks under his breath as he walked away. Truthfully he’s lucky I'm not the kind of person to leave no tip because he didn’t deserve anything, I wasted $80 and as a low income family who never gets to eat out it was a nightmare experience with a waiter from hell. I could leave a 1 star review but I figured I would bring this to your attention first. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE, it has 3 stars...

Stay away.

While visiting the Mystic area, I decided to take my family to this restaurant, thinking it would be a legitimate steakhouse with good food (especially steak).

We'll, it's not. It's not a real steakhouse and the food is horrible. In fact, they had some ridiculous seating rules. If you sit on the wrong side of the restaurant, you loss eligibility for the salad bar. I know that sounds bazaar, and it is, but its true. The person seating us explained that one side of the restaurant allowed for the salad bar while the other did not.

Then the order is taken. I asked for a burger. I checked the menu OUTSIDE before walking in and it shows that burgers are always part of the dinner menu. However the waiter says there are no burgers, they do not serve burgers on weekend, I believe he said they are not profitable enough so the limit what's on their weekend menu and the burger is included in the exclusion. This is after waiting 20-30 minutes since sitting. Now I can't have the one thing I really wanted, aside from steak. We decided on some other food and put the order in.

The kids had pizza. After waiting a half hour, the pizza came burned. The waiter brought it over, acknowledged it was burnt before he even placed it on the table and asked if we wanted a new one. Now we have our food and the kids need to wait another 20 minutes for theirs.

We had steak and chicken. The chicken was SUPER thin and was clearly freezer quality. It's the type you purchase at restaurant depot in big quantity. It's not fresh and it's not even a chicken breast. The steak, oh my goodness, it was the lowest quality beef you could imagine. It was worse than roast beef. It had ZERO flavor as pointed out by the other reviewers as well.

The bill was nearing $100 for a few ounces of really nasty food. Saying it's overpriced is an understatement.

Needless the say, we took a few bites and ate nothing more. We spoke to the restaurant managers on the phone after this experience but judging from all of the reviews here and on TripAdvisor, they know their food is terrible and could care less if customers complain. Reputation means nothing to them because they are in the middle of a touristy area. The manager claims that we paid the bill, therefore we were satisfied. She went as far as to say that she recalls we ate the entire plate of food. That's hilarious considering we spoke to her several weeks after we ate there. She must have super human memory and make notes about each and every table that dines there.

So as I said originally, my recommendation is to stay away. Mystic has some truly great restaurants in the area. Bonefish was good and they even have a diner right across the street with awesome reasonably...

I've been here a few times in the past and it was always really good. It was well known for it's steaks( hence the name) and the salad bar that they used to offer. It has been a while since I've been and it lacks the the salad bar( I'm assuming because of the pandemic) and the menu had changed a bit. The menu is enormous and it offers choices for whatever your looking for salads, sandwiches, steaks, fish, chicken, child's menu, ect.

We started off with onion rings( which was a kid's menu choice but made it part of our appetizers) and potato skins. One order of skins was menu style with bacon and broccoli with side of sour cream. The other was just bacon with side of sour cream. The toppings and melted cheese were good on both kinds but the skins themselves were very dried out. The onion rings on the other hand were great. I wish I had ordered two orders because they came off the kids menu and the portion was not that big.

We ordered three iceberg wedge salads that were very good, chopped bacon, raw red onion, tomato and of course blue cheese dressing. Absolutely one of my favorite salads but it could have been just slightly bigger other than that great.

We all had a hot pastrami sandwich that I thought it was good but could've been made better with different ingredients. It had cold tomato and raw onion with no type of sauce or dressing. I didn't like the raw onion and cold tomato it added no flavor to the sandwich and with the cheese being swiss there wasn't much going on with flavor there either. The best part of the dish was the house made chips that it was served with. They were crisp and crunchy but lacked seasoning. Aside from the seasoning they were cooked perfectly. The kids got grill cheese and french fries which they both said we're delicious.

I would definitely return and try other things on the menu. I would've given it a 3.5 if I could've not because the food was bad but because it was just lacking flavor in certain areas and can be fixed. With the amount of items on the menu there's plenty of chances to...
