I absolutely love the food at Pink Basil, especially the VEGETABLE PHO SOUP and the SWEET AND SOUR TOFU. The plates of food always look so attractive! What I don't like about Pink Basil is the TERRIBLE SERVERS and the DISAPPOINTING WAY THEY HANDLE CUSTOMER PROBLEMS!!! My husband, daughter, and I ordered takeout from Pink Basil on October 17, 2022. My husband ordered the CANTONESE NOODLES. When we sat down to eat dinner, my husband realized that he just had a big bowl of gravy. The waitress who got our order together forgot his noodles. We tried to call 3 times, but no one picked up the phone. My husband had to get dressed, after already getting his shower, and drive 15 minutes to get the noodles for his meal. THE WAITRESS ACTED LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL, AND DIDN'T EVEN OFFER TO COMP HIS MEAL. Most restaurants would have comped the entire bill. My husband was really upset with how the female server handled her mistake! The next day my daughter and I had lunch at Pink Basil in order to speak with the manager. After we were done eating, we asked our waitress (who was the one who forgot my husband's noodles) to speak with the manager. She said that she was the manager and could not comp my husband's meal. ANYTIME A RESTAURANT SCREWS UP A CUSTOMER'S MEAL, IT IS COMMON PRACTICE TO COMP THE MEAL THEY SCREWED UP!!!!! She did offer to give my husband a free meal on his next visit. I explained that we live in Pittsburgh, and he only travels there for meetings and audits. I CALLED 5 TIMES, ASKING TO SPEAK WITH THE OWNER. He was never in, when I called, so I left my phone number with a male server, but the owner never returned my call. My husband's company in Mystic, CT orders all of their meals for work meetings and audits from Pink Basil. THEY WILL NO LONGER ORDER FOOD FROM PINK BASIL UNTIL THIS IS RESOLVED, and by resolved, I MEAN THAT MY HUSBAND WILL RECEIVE A CREDIT FOR THE NOODLE-LESS CANTONESE NOODLE MEAL!!! I don't know why the owner of Pink Basil would continue to have someone who is so incompetent managing his restaurant. She is a real liability to Pink Basil Restaurant, and has no idea how to resolve...

Me and my husband visited Pink Basil yesterday after a short stroll through Olde Mistick Village. The menu was varied and interesting and we had a hard time choosing what to order since it all sounded so good.

We ended up getting two appetizers, the curry puffs and pork dumplings. The curry puffs were absolutely delicious and I only wish there were more because I wanted to keep eating them! The sweet and tangy sauce that comes with it adds a great dimension to the flavor. They were flakey and well filled. The dumplings were huge, very caramelized on the bottoms and the dumpling sauce was savory and delicious.

For entrees, we went with something similar, the Beef Hor Fun Noodles and the Pink Basil Noodles (with beef). The noodles were perfectly chewy for both dishes and the Hor Fun Noodles we're savory and flavorful while the Pink Basil Noodles were a great combination of savory and sweet with plenty of fresh veggies. The beef itself isn't too chewy, has great caramelization and paired well with the noodles and sauce. The portion sizes were large for the entrees, and we were offered a spice level of 1-4, I believe and I got the Hor Fun in a 1 and my husband got a 2 for his Pink Basil Noodles. The level 1 spice is perfect if you want next to no spice or do not enjoy spice. Level 2 was perfect and what I would choose in the future, as it's a nice building spice that isn't too harsh. Spice lovers will want to go for 3-4!

We also got the Thai iced tea and mango bubble slushy drink. Both were phenomenal with delicious flavor and very ripe mango flavor for the slushy drink.

The service was great, and we got there right as they opened so we got a good seat. The ambiance and decorations were gorgeous, with flowers everywhere. The building is fairly small and was full for lunch after we got there. I would recommend checking in to see if reservations are available or nessessary during the busy hours to guarantee a seat and I would strongly recommend it if you have a large party.

We look forward to returning to Pink Basil in the future to try more of their selection of dishes and I would recommend this...

Upon the recommendation of a coworker, and awed by the many good reviews on Google, me and my girlfriend decided to try Pink Basil out. It was just before 3pm on a Monday, and the place was not crowded, maybe 3 or 4 other tables to the 3 servers on staff.

The server who met us at the door was gruff and unresponsive, bringing us to booth with no introduction or preamble. Our own server was very flustered and not terribly familiar with the menu. She eventually opened up and became friendlier towards the end of the meal, and I attribute her mistakes towards being a new hire.

I ordered the Green plate, a quartet of vegetarian sushi rolls, and my girlfriend ordered a Mystic Plate with Sushi, 7 pieces of nigiri and a spicy tuna roll. Both entrees were meant to come with a bowl of miso soup and a green salad, neither of which arrived for either of us during our incredibly long wait.

Despite the relatively empty restaurant and only one other customer ordering sushi, our meal took over a half an hour to arrive, though our waitress did constantly refill our water glasses during this time.

Unfortunately, it was not worth the wait.

The rice in both the nigiri and maki sushi was rather bland, mushy, and overworked. The nori was of a good quality and had a fine flavor. The filling of the cucumber roll and avocado roll were good, but the canned, textureless asparagus and greasy, soggy sweet potato tempura were pretty bad. All of the fish on my girlfriends nigiri were too warm and mealy in texture, evidence of improper storage and/or defrosting of frozen fish. The wasabi was not particularly flavorful, and the gari was fine. It's just gari.

I would love to have criticized the salad and soup as well, but I never did get to taste them.

Maybe it was an off day. Maybe the staff was new. Neither should have left us with such an unsatisfying dining experience. I have tried dozens of sushi restaurants across coastal Connecticut, and this was the worst I...

We arrived at 8 PM, an hour before closing, which may explain why the experience felt a bit rushed. Our scallion pancake appetizer came out quickly, but oddly, no utensils or plates were provided. When they did finally arrive, they were simply stacked on the table for us to distribute ourselves. We ordered the green curry (requested with no spice) and beef pho—but both dishes arrived spicy. Flavor-wise, the curry and pho leaned heavily Thai, with a sweetness that didn’t quite suit my taste. We also tried to place a takeout order before our meal came, but were told the kitchen had already closed—before 9 PM. In hindsight, that might have been for the best. The backyard setting was pleasant, especially the lighting, which created a nice ambiance. The servers were friendly, but service overall was below average—perhaps due to the late hour. One major frustration: the payment system. The default tip options started at 20%, and they were calculated on top of tax, which I find frustrating. Restaurants that configure their POS systems fairly and transparently tend to leave a better final impression. Overall, the atmosphere had potential, but the service experience and menu execution left something to be desired.

A few things... Pros: delicious food, amazing drinks, lively atmosphere and tons of variety on the menu. I ordered a "Fish Tank" and it was D E L I C I O U S and super cute! I also ordered the Hainanese Crispy Chicken which was very flavorful. However, with the sauces that they give you, the flavors of the two PLUS whatever sauce they put in the rice kind of combat each other rather than working well on the palate. I wish they'd just given me plain, fragrant jasmine rice or something to compensate for how full in flavor the accompanying sauces were! Cons: super pricey on most of the menu, our server had to be reminded to bring our appetizers out AFTER she'd brought our entrees out. She was sort of out of it/loopy and seemed overall very lost or confused or sluggish. She only came over to check on us 15-20 min AFTER we'd asked for something (straws, to-go boxes, water, etc.) Thankfully, the restaurant was kind enough to give us a 5% discount on all parties at the table's checks and were very apologetic and sincere about the whole situation. I would come again but only if we had a different server. I hope the one we had is okay now. Perhaps she was new or nervous or sick? Who knows!
