I'm sorry to leave this review, as I generally haven't traveled to places that I didn't feel deserved less than a 4. Here is my reasoning for the 3...
We went here twice today - once for lunch, once for dinner. Food and drink wise, the food was great. The appetizers were a large size, and we each had trouble eating two of them. Good value for the money...and the food / drinks tasted great.
Dinner - let me just say that the food that I, myself, did eat was great. The Mac and Cheese and ravioli were both very good - would definitely recommend. Now for why I had two dinners and why I specifically said the food I ate...
The reasons for the 3 stars... during lunch, out server was very good. Entertaining at times too. And was very attentive to us. 5 stars. Great guy...sorry I forgot his name. However, there was a patron that asked about mask mandates in VT. I couldn't help but overhear, and heard one of the waitresses go political with regards to mask mandates and her opinion. I'm all cool with your opinion on politics and such, but I don't want to hear it and I don't want to know it. 100 percent unprofessional, especially in today's political environment. my wife ordered the one expensive pasta dish on the menu. I honestly forgot what it was called, but it was the top of the category on the menu (wagu something?). When she got the food, it was legit cool / cold. I thought she was being picky, until I touched it and it was definitely cool. After over 5 minutes I'd say, our waitress came around and we explained this one thing (second will be below). She was very understanding and said she'd take care of it. We finally get my wife's food back, and it was CLEARLY microwaved. The plate was untouched...all the sauce marks were exactly as they were. And the pasta had that texture that you get when you microwave it. On top of the dish being underwhelming for the price, the "reheat" is the most unprofessional thing I've seen in a while. We were not compensated for this on our bill (I wasn't expecting to be but just letting you all know) . I ordered the Mac and cheese. When the (other) waitress dropped the food to us, it was pretty quick - I was trying to get a pic of the bar when she came, so I was thrown off guard. Next I notice, I have ravioli in front of me - not Mac and cheese. Eventually I'm like - I'm just going to eat it, as it was my number 2 choice anyway. When the waitress did come around for my wife's issue, she did say that the hostess that brought the food messed up with my plate (as I was explaining it to her) and she said they were bringing my actual meal that I ordered. Thus me having two meals, and them both being very good.
If we come back here again in the fall, I may add to this review, but for now, 3 stars. Considering all of the mess ups, I think...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of visiting Vermont for the first time. My boyfriend and I were staying in Stowe and were looking for a cute place to grab some dinner and decided on Idletyme, an exceptional outside brewery restaurant, it was an experience that exceeded all expectation! From the moment we arrived, my boyfriend and I were blown away by the exceptional service, delectable cuisine, and unrivaled atmosphere.
We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, and they were really good! We split the fish and chips as our entree and it was also very flavorful and delicious!
What truly sets Idletyme apart is its remarkable staff. From the moment we stepped foot in the restaurant, we were greeted warmly by the friendly and attentive team. Their dedication to ensuring our dining experience was top-notch was evident throughout our visit. They went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, and their genuine passion for their craft shone through in every interaction.
The ambience of Idletyme's outside seating was nothing short of magical. Nestled amidst picturesque surroundings, we found ourselves immersed in a tranquil atmosphere that enhanced our dining experience. The outdoor seating area was tastefully decorated and perfectly complemented the natural beauty of the brewery. Read moreUnfortunately, our recent visit didn’t live up to the great experiences we’ve had over the past five years. We’ve always looked forward to dining at the pub, but were disappointed to learn it’s closed for the summer — something we only found out after arriving.
We came as a family of four adults and two small children (ages 2 and 5) around 8 PM. The sign out front said to see the hostess for outdoor seating, but due to the mosquitos, we opted to head inside. We were told to go around to the back to be seated. Thankfully, the hostess Genesis was the highlight of our night — warm, welcoming, and kind.
Once seated inside, however, the atmosphere shifted. It felt uncomfortable enough that we asked Genesis whether we should leave since the restaurant closes at 9. She kindly assured us we were welcome to stay.
Our server, Chris, greeted us quickly and got the kids’ meals in first, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. My side dish came out wrong, and when I politely mentioned it to the food runner, I was rudely dismissed. Chris then followed up and, after I explained the issue, he responded with “OK, would that suffice then?” — a comment that came off as dismissive and unprofessional.
When I eventually had to go to the bar to ask for our check, I was told a 20% gratuity had been automatically added for “group service.” I found that excessive, especially considering our group included two small children.
As someone who started in the industry as a busboy at 15 and worked my way through college waiting tables, I understand what good service looks like — and this wasn’t it. Sadly, this experience has made what was once one of our favorite local spots no longer a place...
