Carmela Coffee - Stuart — Restaurant in Stuart

To start off my whole experience today left much to desired. Normally I love coming here. But today me and my friend went to study, she had brought in food from outside and was told by the manager that she could not in the future because we could be bringing in "diseases". First of all I have two industry certifications from the state, one in food safety, and the other in restaurant management, and her statement very much made me lose brain cells. But you know we understand and so my friend put her food away. Despite her putting her food away like she was told, multiple employees including the manager were hovering over us the entire time we were there to make sure she wasn't eating anymore. They even went as far as cleaning tables in front of us that were already clean that nobody had sat at since we got there. Afterwards, we went to order food which was just a croissant with strawberries. Our orders came back with surprise, no strawberries, so I went to the register to ask about it. When I got up there I was told that I did not order my food with strawberries, and since I was not charged extra, I will not be receiving them. Meanwhile the girl who took my order was standing right there and remained quiet the whole time because she knew she had messed up our orders. I told the lady at the front that it's alright, but I indeed did order my food with strawberries. My least favorite quality in a person is incompetence and for someone to make a mistake, get called out on it, and still let the customer take the heat because they knew they messed up is so embarrassing on their part. What a disaster of a place. Walk in, no associates to be seen, stand at the counter 3-5 minutes waiting, a small child (2-4 years old) comes running out with some women covered in tattoos (no hate, I have them too!) with her purse on who was like “oh I’m not even supposed to be here” not sure if she’s the owner or what but she had no idea how to make the drink on the menu had to ask the lady who looks like she actually works there. They had no more pennies and actually shorted me on change due to it vs giving me a nickel. She complained to the barista that she was already out of ones and change and she had already done so much for the day. When the barista said she had no cocoa powder she’s like “Ugh I already went to Walmart” All while this child is running behind the counter. I should have walked out… but running late and wasn’t going to make another stop. First and last time here and do not recommend. To think I was planning to get my car detailed next door since it would give me somewhere nice to work but I’ll just go to their location closer to home and sit outside versus coming back here.

The drink: tiramisu late Way too sweet, they used chocolate syrup instead of the cocoa powder the recipe called for which would have brought the bitterness in the normal drink. The shots were not pulled well and/or old beans, either way I couldn’t make it through more than a quarter...

The staff are terrible! They are incompetent when it comes to making orders and are so rude when you ask them why your order is wrong. I brought food from a different place because of allergies I have and the manager came up to me and yelled at me for bringing outside food. She started talking about diseases and how I would affect their business. The rest of the time I was there the staff would go out of their way to clean tables that had already been cleaned as an excuse to check to see if I was still eating. I could not study properly because I was being watched and hovered over. I ordered food and a coffee from Carmela's that day and my friend and I ordered the same thing and we specified that we wanted strawberries added to our order and when it came without strawberries, we asked politely why the strawberries weren't added and they were rude and said that we didn't order it that way and we weren't charged for it, so a solution wasn't possible. The staff that we ordered from stayed silent the whole conversation because she knew she placed our order wrong. It was an easy fix, and instead they dismissed us.
