TL;DR: Very overcrowded, lack of equipment, awful bathroom, lame staff, corporate feel.
Before I get started I think we can all agree that it's best to avoid any gym that has clientele that needs to be reminded to put their clothes on before going home. (See bathroom sign)
I got a 1 month membership to see if I liked it better than my gym (Powerhouse in Stuart) and after my first workout I asked them for a refund...to please just charge me for the day rate (which is what I should have asked for in the first place). The general manager said no. When I asked why not I could see her eyes glaze over as she searched all her training at the two year community college she almost graduated from...I just sighed and left. I guess they really need that extra $15 dollars. They can put it towards some of the missing equipment they need to complete the gym.
I went around 11:30am when most gyms are not crowded but this one was...and horribly so. At first it appears they have a lot of gear but that's only because there are so many people...they need much more. However, it's a sad commentary on a gym this size that there's only ONE captain's chair and it's the old fashion one with the flat back that almost nobody uses anymore. Also, no sign of a Rogue/Assault style bike. Very odd.
Also odd was the fact there's no trashcan in the bathroom...it's at the end of the hall just before you get back to the gym. This is why, I would guess, the bathroom is disgusting with orange peels in the lockers and water bottles littering the floor...who wants to wait to carry their trash out of the bathroom? Not their members, anyway. Remember, they also need to be reminded to put on their pants.
The sauna was standing room only. Literally. Plus it looked like it wasn't going to ever get properly to temp because, in typical corporate style for safety (I assume) the fourth wall is all glass with big gaps around the door.
This is a typical, corporate nightmare gym. Ironically at Powerhouse the pitch from the owner (I think it was an owner) was that they were family run. I didn't think much of that at the time but when I had a problem with my card and it wasn't clear if I owed them any additional money after a short break they talked to me like a human and we figured it out and I stayed (so far for another year). Gyms like Crunch will never learn these lessons.
Finally, it's very telling that the owner only comments on the 5 star reviews here, not the one and two stars that bring up problems, because the owner clearly has no intension of fixing or addressing the problems so they have nothing to say to these people.
Any gym that made me long for Powerhouse is a very, very, very...
Read moreHave given this place about six months to generate an honest opinion. Iâm a firm believer and calling a spade a spade and not letting my emotion dictate how I Review an establishment. I have been in and out of different gyms For the past 15 years, Including: Garage gyms, storage, locker, gyms, outdoor gyms, cheap gyms, expensive gyms, division one collegiate level gyms, And I can truly say in all honesty that this facility is the most frustrating gym I have ever worked out in. There is complete and utter disrespect for the gym culture as a whole, zero cleanliness, zero gym etiquette, And it appears zero management. There is a 100% chance youvwill have to unrack someoneâs weight before using equipment. There is a 99.9% chance you will either have to wipe down someone elseâs equipment or just sit in their sweat. There is a 3 to 5% chance of the equipment you were using has a set of plates that will accommodate the way you need without having to hunt it down. I understand that the membership is affordable, but it is very apparent that you get with you pay for. I understand that people are not born, knowing the etiquette and respect that goes into working out amongst a group of peers, But there is also no accountability by the staff present. The locker room facilities and restrooms are embarrassingly disgusting. And it is a shame that this place has some really nice cutting edge equipment that is otherwise abused by the clientele. I am grateful that I am only coming here on a guest membership because this facility is not worth more than $10 a month. If youâre looking for cheap and donât mind entering a facility with zero gym etiquette, Then you would be just fine here. If youâre looking for an environment that prioritizes socializing as much as exercising, you will enjoy it here. if youâre looking to Put your head down and grind out an efficient workout without having to include unracking and searching for weights into your workout, Then you might wanna consider a different...
Read moreJesse is an incredibly rude manager who after I explained my situation to and was aggravated (rightfully so) at the fact that I had been mislead by management for over two weeks and after visiting the gym 3 times to request a refund that even two other managers who helped me, agreed on being wrongfully charged to my account. Now it turns out that theyâre somehow justifiable although I have receipts to prove that what he was explaining was wrong, he claims that the systems attempt to charge you daily and after 5 days you have the alert on your account resulting in a late fee. The annual fee was charged on the third (I did not have the sufficient funds that morning) I deposited a 351 dollar paycheck on the 5th. Had they attempted daily to charge me as he said. The annual fee wouldâve gone through by the 5th. When I went on the 7th to freeze my membership due to financial reasons and the fact that I had a family emergency for which I had to travel out of state. I asked then if there was any alerts on my account and if I still owed the annual fee. I was told no, only to be charged the annual fee along with three late fees for the total sum of 98 dollars on the 9th. The employee behind him was laughing at my situation, he was giving me constant attitude and treating me as if I was intellectually inferior, completely disregarding my situation. People like him should not be in the business of customer service. Let alone management if theyâre going to act this rudely and incompetently. I decided to cancel my membership after this. It is absolutely ridiculous that for two weeks I was mislead because I had two other managers agree that the 45 dollars in late fees were wrongfully charged (it was Jeremiah and another lady whom were both very helpful and kind) and I had both managers request a refund for me twice. Only to have him be the one on shift today and essentially deny the refund that had already been promised to me 2 weeks prior and act very...
